Effects of Co addition on sliding wear properties of multi-component white cast iron were investigated. The microstructures of multi-component white cast iron containing from 0%Co to 10%Co exhibited little difference. However, the hardness increased with an increase of the Co content. Increasing the Co content, wear properties were improved and the iron oxide on worn surface was increased in the low sliding speed range of the steady-state wear region. Hence, Co addition was effective to improve the wear properties of multi-component white cast iron by accelerating the corrosive wear as well as the enhancement effect of hardness.

Earthworm cast occurred in surface of turfgrass in golf courses which affect turfgrass maintenance and golf play. In this study several survey of seasonal fluctuation of earthworm cast in different golf courses (Anseong, Gapyeong, Gunpo and Yongin in Gyeonggi province, and Geumjeong in Busan) was done. A number of earthworm, soil temperature and moisture of detection site of earthworm cast in each golf course were also done. Cast occurred in different golf courses are found mostly from April to November on turf surface and the cast number varied in different month as well as in golf courses. In the same golf courses, a number of detected cast was difference from individual sites. A number of cast and earthworm was correlated. Also, in higher soil moisture showed the higher cast density in different golf courses. Soil temperature and moisture of detecting cast ranging from $2.1^{\circ}C$ to $33.1^{\circ}C$ and 4.9 to 44.1%, respectively. In case of cast, soil temperature level lies in between $10-15^{\circ}C$ where the highest soil moisture was 25%.
Friction and wear test for two kinds of Cu-based sintered metallic friction material against cast iron disk was carried out by plate-on-disk type friction and wear tester to investigate the friction and wear characteristics of brake system in severe condition. In this experimental study, the counter specimen was cast iron which is being used generally in brakes of heavy duty equipments. Test friction materials were A type which was manufactured by foreign company and B type by domestic company. Friction coefficient and wear volume were measured and compared with each other. The experiment was performed under room temperature. The worn surface of cast iron disk and friction material were observed by scanning electron microscope. The temperature of surface of disk was measured continuously by the non-contacting thermometer. It was found that A type friction material had stable friction coefficient over the wide range of sliding condition, but B type friction material had unstable friction coefficient and lower value of 0.2 under the severe sliding condition.

All objects with some temperature above absolute zero radiate in the infrared. The intensity of the infrared radiated from a object defends on the condition and temperature on the surface of the one. The present, these techniques are frequently adopted into diagnosis for electricity equipments. Simply, however, the applied techniques are passive thermal testing for the detection of loosened terminals and overcurrent. In this paper, a infrared thermal imager was applied to high voltage windings of cast resin transformers, and the accumulated value of the result temperatures was used for evaluating remained lifetime of them. At each aging level, dielectric loss tangent test was carried out. The results offered capabilities for deciding the condition of the transformers suffering difficulties to diagnose.
In order to investigate the solidification characteristics of CV. graphite cast iron, decantation technique and thermal analysis test were used. Solidification characteristics were studied in the specimens with various compositions and graphite shape. The results were as follows; 1. The first surface solidifcation layer is formed along the mold wall by the growth of austenite dendrites in hypoeutectic composition and thin solid film in hypereutectic composition. 2. The mushy degree of solidifcation of hypereutiectic composition is higher than that of hypoeutectic. 3. In hypoeutectic, the effect of change of the mushy degree of solidification on the graphite shape is small, however, in hypereutectic the mushy degree of solidification becomes higher in order of flake, CV, and spheroidal graphite cast iron.
The influence of substrate materials on the degree of basal porosity during spray casting process has been investigated. Different conditions of droplet spreading on the substrate were induced by varying the substrate material. Flat sections of cast iron and aluminum have been spray deposited via spray casting process onto an aluminum substrate, a low carbon steel substrate, and an alumina based refractory substrate. Results for cast iron and aluminum sprayed onto the aluminum substrate showed significant improvements in the surface condition and degree of basal porosity with evidence of substrate deformation that round pits ranging from $5{\mu}m$ to $20{\mu}m$ in diameter are distributed on the surface of aluminum substrate. The lowest level of porosity was developed in alumina based refractory material. Several mechanisms for porosity formation were discussed with droplet impact pressure and droplet spreading. Adopting a spray cutting mechanism for removing the periphery of spray cone, porosity level was remarkably decreased.
To study the effect of the vent and dense surface of the phophate-bonded investment on the castability of a non-precious alloy used in PFM restoration, one-ended polypropylene straw patterns of 0.15mm thick, 5mm radius. 10mm-high were cast with Vera Bond. The following results were obtained. 1. Thin patterns could be cast completely with a non-precious alloy. 2. No difference in the castability was found among the patterns with vent, chill vent and with out vent. 3. Dense surface of the phosphate-bonded investment had no effect on the cast ability of a nonprecious alloy.
To overcome the undesirable deformation, peeling off and geometrical restrictions which were mainly caused by differences in thermal expansion coefficients during the cladding of aluminum strip and stainless strip, new processing method based on vacuum die casting is designed and implemented in fabricating Al/Fe-17wt%Cr steel(stainless steel). To increase cast-bonding ability, the surface of Fe-17wt%Cr steel is electrochemically etched to have optimum pit size and density. The optimum conditions to generate best pit are as follows: Solution: 1 M $Fecl_{3}$+1 M Nacl, Addition: $CuCl_{2}+HCl$, Current density: 80 $mA/cm^{2}$, Total current: 400 $coulomb/cm^{2}$, AC frequency :60 Hz.
Commercial flake graphite cast iron substrate was coated with titanium powder by low pressure plasma spraying and was irradiated with a $CO_2$ laser to produce the wear resistant composite layer. From the experimental results of this study, it was possible to composite TiC particles on the surface layer by direct reaction between carbon existed in the cast iron matrix and titanium with thermal sprayed coating by remelting and alloying them using laser irradiation. The cooling rate of laser remelted cast iron substrate without titanium coating was about $1{\times}10^4$ K/s to $1{\times}10^5$ K/s in the order under the condition used in this study. The microstructure of alloyed layer consisted of three zones, that is, TiC particule crystallized zone (MHV $400{\sim}500$), the mixed zone of TiC particule+ledebulite (MHV $650{\sim}900$) and the ledebulite zone (MHV $500{\sim}700$). TiC particules were crystallized as a typical dendritic morphology. The secondary TiC dendrite arms were grown to the polygonized shape and were necking. And then the separated arms became cubic crystal of TiC at the slowly solidified zone. But in the rapidly solidified zone of fusion boundry, the fine granular TiC particules were grouped like grape.
Kkonmoe relic located in Jangan-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do Provinceis an example of the wide chronology from the Three Kingdoms Period to Joseon Dynasty. Examinations on a forged iron ax, a cast iron ax and an iron sickle excavated from this relic revealed the microstructure structure of the metal and the manufacturing technologies. Microstructure investigation was carried out with a metallurgical microscope and a Vickers hardness tester was used to measure the hardness of the micro structures. The test results show that the forged iron ax has a ferrite and pearlitestructure. It is made of low carbon steel and then carbonized to increase carbon content. After carbonization, the surface grains are reworked and the surface decarbonized. In case of the iron sickle, it is forged from low carbon steel, then carbonized and hardened, to increase overall strength. The sickle blade is carbonized and quenched after forging, resulting in afirm, solid blade. Heat treatment to remove brittleness is not applied to the cast ironartifact, which is manufactured by solidifing hypo-eutectic cast iron with a3-4% carbon content and white cast iron. All artifacts are produced from steel and subjected to a carbonization process. To increase hardness of the blade, additional heat treatment is applied.
