  • The main objective of the study is to provide the criteria for determining the proper life cycle of rebuiled diesel-electric locomotive currently being operated in KNR. We predicted the most critical sections of the cast-iron bogie and tested the diesel-electric locomotive vehicle to measure dynamic stresses applied to the bogie. The fileld test of the diesel-electric locomotive estimated 9.90years based on the fatigue-life estimation when they are continuously used in the present operation condition.

  • The gating design of gray cast iron was programmed in a Personal computer. By this program, casting test was done. The results obtained are as follows. 1. Gating design that can calculate the velocity of metal flow and size in each gate section by knowing the loss coefficient caused by friction loss and bend loss was programmed. 2. In the test casting, the gating ratio was changed into 1.1:1.3:1, 1:2:2, 1:4:4. And sound casting, free of sand washing defect, was obtained at the velocity of 35.5cm/sec in ingate.

  • In this study, the casting process using forged insert was investigated to characterize the manufacturing process by which good mechanical properties can be obtained when compared with existing casting products. Process analysis for the casting design was performed by using FVM (Finite Volume Method) software. In filling process, three kinds of candidate gating systems are considered and analyzed respectively. The molten metal behavior in gating system is so important that it affects the solidification behavior of the cast.

  • Domestic freight car holding amount is possessing much amount than other vehicle model about 14,000. Problem is happening in bogie device of cast steel structure because is structure that there are many wear departments. Therefore, the KNR is restricting running speed of empty car by 70km/h low. In this research, presented speed elevation way as dynamic characteristic analysis result that use ADAMS and confirm running safety by main line test.

  • In most of large panel pre-cast concrete system, the narrow joints have inefficiency to assemble several panels and structural problems due to their complicated process after construction. To improve, practically, structural performance and inefficiency to assemble, the behavior and strength of new wide joints method should be investigated experimentally. The result is that the shear force of wide joints is similar to that of loop joints, or more than. It seems that the use of wide joints is the possible methods in a construction field.

  • An experimental study for bond slip behavior of concrete and a FRP plank was used as the both formwork and the tensile reinforcement for a concrete structural member is described. For the FRP plank and the concrete to act as a composite structural member a satisfactory bond at the interface between the smooth surface of the FRP and the concrete must be developed. This study focuses on investigation of the bond slip behavior of sand coated interface between FRP and cast-in-place concrete experimentally.

  • The current understanding of the mechanism of inoculation of the eutectic in commercial Fe-C-Si alloys using either silicon containing alloys or graphite has been discussed. The mechanism whereby inclusion formation within a cast iron melt is essential for inoculation effectiveness in ferro silicon inoculation has been reviewed. The role of graphitic inoculants has been presented, including the results of recent research that confirms the inoculating capability of graphite and demonstrates those factors which must be considered in evaluating inoculation effectiveness. Fading of inoculation, both ferro silicon and graphite, and the mechanism whereby this occurs, has also been discussed.
