Development of Cast Iron Bonded Grinding Wheel by Using Spheroidization Mechanism of Graphite (흑연의 구상화기구를 이용한 주철본드 다이어몬드 숫돌의 개발)

  • Grinding has been adapted as a finishing process,which can carry out form and surface integrity at the same time. Recently, high efficient and precise grinding technique is required bacause the needs for functional parts such as silicon wafer,ceramic,and electric materials are increasing. Accordingly, the development of grinding wheel appropriate to that purpose is very important. So, in this paper we newly developed a diamond grinding wheel by applying the superior characteristics of spheroidal graphite of the cast iron sintered product. Especially, a electric resistance sintering method was applied in which rapid heat treatment is possible. Finally, we have achieved successful results that the grinding wheel has high hardness,durability and grinding ability,and satisfies above conditions.

Damping Capacity of Heat-Treated Mg-Nd Alloy (열처리한 Mg-Nd 합금의 진동감쇠능)

  • Influence of solution treatment (T4) and peak-aging (T6) on damping capacity was investigated in permanent-mold cast Mg-3%Nd alloy. In as-cast state, the microstructure was characterized by eutectic $Mg_{12}Nd$ intermetallic phase network in the intergranular region. T4 treatment resulted in a dissolution of the eutectic particles, but small amount of the particles still remained in the microstructure. After T6 treatment, nano-sized ${\beta}^{\prime}(Mg_{12}Nd)$ particles were precipitated within the matrix. T4 microstructure showed higher damping capacity than as-cast and T6 ones. In view of the microstructural features, this may well be associated with the dissolution of second-phase particles which play a role in pinning the dislocations acting as a damping source.

  • This paper investigates the utilization of waste tyre crumb rubber as the fine aggregate in precast concrete Paving block (PCPB). PCPB's are generally preferred for city roads, pedestrian crosswalk, parking lots and bus terminals. The main aim of this paper is to evaluate the mechanical properties of wet cast PCPB containing waste tyre crumb rubber. The mechanical properties were investigated using a density, compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength tests at 7, 28 56 days according to the IS 15688:2006 and EN1338. The wet cast method was followed for producing PCPB samples. The fine aggregate (river sand) was replaced with waste tyre crumb in percentage of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% by volume. All the test results were compared with the conventional PCPB (Without rubber). The test results indicate its feasibility for incorporating waste tyre crumb rubber in the production of PCPB by the wet cast method.

  • This study is aimed to investigate the effects of the multi-phase(ferrite-bainite-martensite) on the strengthening and toughening in ductile cast iron. All the specimen were austenitized at eutectoid transformation temperature range(${\alpha}+{\gamma}$) for 1hr and austempered at $300^{\circ}C$ and $400^{\circ}C$ for various holding time, and then quenched in iced water for multi - phase (${\alpha}-B-M$). When the volume fraction of martensite is below 15%, excellent maximum fracture load can be obtained due to strengthening by the fine martensite, but, with increasing of volume fraction over 15%, it was decreased drastically. The martensite size became finer and the shape of it changed from bar to spherical type with increasing of austempering holding time. The higher the austenitizing temperature is, the more preferential is the formation of austenite phase around the graphite nodules improving strength and toughness of austempered ductile cast iron.

Tribological Characteristics for High Perfomance Metallic Friction Materials (고성능 금속마찰재의 트라이볼로지적 특성)

  • Friction and wear test for two kinds of Cu-based sintered metallic friction material against cast iron disk was carried out by plate-on-disk type friction and wear tester to investigate the friction and wear characteristics of brake system in severe condition. In this experimental study, the counter specimen was cast iron which is being used generally in brakes of heavy duty equipments. Test friction materials were A type which was manufactured by foreign company and B type by domestic company. Friction coefficient and wear volume were measured and compared with each other. The experiment was performed under room temperature. The worn surface of cast iron disk and friction material were observed by scanning electron microscope. The temperature of surface of disk was measured continuously by the non-contacting thermometer. It was found that A type friction material had stable friction coefficient over the wide range of sliding condition, but B type friction material had unstable friction coefficient and lower value of 0.2 under the severe sliding condition.

  • Mechanical Brake system is inevitable equipment for stability of train and speed of the train. Especially brake disk and brake pads are core parts of mechanical brake system. It was investigated with tribological characteristics of brake discs for train by using lab-scale dynamometer. Gray cast iron disk was most attacked with sintered brake pad. Alloyed steel disk and NCM cast iron disk had suitable friction coefficient, high stability and low disk attack to the sintered brake pad. But at the view of economy, low alloyed cast iron will be most suitable choice.

  • In this paper, The bulging behavior of the solidified shell in continuously cast slabs have been numerically analyzed using three-dimensional elasto-plastic and creep finite element method Three-dimensional model has been applied in order to investigate the effect of the narrow face shell on restraining the bulging deflection. Solidification analysis are carried out by two-dimensional finite difference method. In this way, strains occurring at the solidification front near the narrow face of the slab, as well as those occurring in the board face have been computed. The adequacy of the model has been checked against the experimental results. In addition, the effect of the slab width and casting speed on the bulging are discussed.

  • This paper discussed finite element method(FEM) models of the reinforced concrete frame retrofitted with cast-in plate infilled shear wall and analysed under constant axial and monotonic lateral load using ABAQUS. Detailed finite element models are created by studying the monotonic load response of the designed connection of reinforced concrete frame and cast-in plate infilled shear wall. The developed models account for the effect of material inelasticity, concrete cracking, geometric nonlinearity and bond-slip of steel, frame and infilled shear wall. In order to verify the proposed FEM, this study behaved analysis considered a diagonal reinforced steel. The analytical results compared with the experimental results.

  • The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate scanning electron micrographs of repeatedly cast base metal alloy. For this study two Ni-Cr-Be alloys were used; Rexillium III and Verabond. They were repeatedly cast without addition o new alloy melting with an electric resistant furnace (Castron 8, Yoshida dental equipment Mfg.Co.). They were etched with 10% H₂SO₄ Sol. at 300mA/㎠ for 3 minutes with the use of metal etching unit Oxyetch (OXY dental product Inc.), and ultrasonic cleaning in 18% HC1 Sol. was done. Etched surfaces were examined under a SEM at x 200 and x 750. The surfaces are shown in legends.

  • In internal combustion engines the usual material for the cylinder liner is because of its good wear resistance Apparently this wear resistance arises from the at iron to form a hard glazed surface when under sliding friction. When the cylinder liner wear limits, it shall be replace with new one according to the classification soci manufacturer's standards. However, adoption of alternative repairing method such a metalizing, thermo plastic deformation process became inevitable taking enormous cost renewal into consideration. In this paper. the material properties of cylinder liner of grey discussed on the basis of the results of experimental work of the thermo plastic deformation the worn out cylinder liner made of grey cast iron.
