  • In the stable eutectoid transformation of austenite in ductile cast iron, ferrite forms around the graphite spheroid. As carbon diffuses through the ferrite ring, the graphite spheroid must eularge and the ferrite ring must deform plastically to accomodate this growth. A model has been proposed to clarify this mechanism. The alloying effects of molybdenum, nickel and copper were studied in a series of heats cast into a range of casting section sizes. Regression analysis was used to illustrate the effects of alloying and cooling rate on the microstructure of ductile cast iron.

  • This study has been carried out to investigate into the difference of rolling life and rolling wear characteristics for various gray cast iron under unlubricated dry rolling condition by amsler type wear test with 9.09% sliding. The results obtained from this study are summerized as follows: 1) It has been found that the amount of rolling wear id decreased when tensile strength and hardness are low, and then the rolling life up to generation of abnormal wear is conspicuously increased. 2) At the given condition the amount of rolling wear has been found to decrease as carbon equivalent of gray cast iron increases and resistance of crack propagation is an important factor on improvement of wear characteristics. 3) The amount of rolling wear is increased with increasing rolling revolution and wear of gray cast iron under dry rolling condition is characterized by three modes; initial wear, stationary wear and abnormal wear. 4) It has been found that the amount of rolling wear is increased with increasing maximum compressive stress and extremely increased when maximum compressive stress is over 59.1kg.f/mm.

  • Worm cast is one of the effective and the least harmful organic fertilizer. The purpost of this work is to elucidate the physiological role of worm cast in the plant growth. Worm cast extract contains 17.83ppm of zinc, but either cadmium or lead were not detected in it. Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L. cv. H. N. Semiwhite) was germinated and incubated with percentage-varied extract. While 10% extract stimulated sprouting of seeds, 100% extract had no effct on it. 50% extract and 100% extract enhanced hypercotyl elongation and fresh weight most effectively. Dry matter and zinc concentration in hypercotyl were increased as percentage of extract increased. Protein con-tent was not affected by extract, 100% extract inhibits water uptake of seedling. Considering these, enhancement of seedling growth was mainly based on increment of water uptake.

  • Study from Yogyakarta earthquake reconstruction program, cast-in-place wall using fix-size formwork system (Old-CIP) has offered a good alternative for house construction. A simulation has also confirmed that this system using mortar as the main material can provide cheapest cost and lowest total man power compared to conventional wall construction technique: brick or mortar-block wall. This paper presents the new wall construction technique: full size cast-in-place wall (New-CIP). The detail of how this new technique implemented is described. In addition, considering that material and labor cost in one area is different to others, cost analysis for different resources prices and wages of three cities are taken into a simulation. The analysis is aimed to distinguish the implementation feasibility of New-CIP system compared to the four common wall systems. Finally, its implementation resistance is also discussed.

  • High speed machining one of the most effectiv to improve machining accuracy and product in dies and mould. But a study on this is limited to Alumium, light metal etc. This paper presents machining characteristic of gray cast iron in high speed machining with tungsten carbide endmill. It is suggested to measure sutting force, tool wear, surface roughness, surface shape and select of cptimal cutting condition in the high speed machining of gray cast iron. Performance of high speed machine tool was estimated and the relationship between cutting phenomenon and machinabillity was described.

  • Cast-in-place concrete lining is commonly used in tunnel lining, but cast-in-place concrete lining has problems with construction and quality control. Precast segment lining is being used to solve these problems. In general, precast segment lining is known to have improved durability and easy maintenance such as rehabilitation of structures. This study compared the durability of 22 tunnel linings constructed with precast segments or cast-in-place reinforced concrete.

  • This study was investigated the effect of heat treatment on the microstructure and hardness of internally hardened ductile cast iron roll. The following conclusions were obtained. Some of the graphite was decreased and a bainite was produced by heat treatment. It decreased due to the decomposition of some of the cementite precipitated in the as-cast by heat treatment, but there was no significant change when it reached a certain depth. Hardness increased due to formation of bainite by heat treatment. On the surface, the hardness decreased due to the decrease in the amount of transformation of cementite into bainite, but there was no change beyond a certain depth.
