  • Purpose: Cases of male external genitalia lymphedema are relatively uncommon in the clinical physical therapy field. Of more than two thousand clinical cases treated by the author in the lymphedema treatment center, only 4~5 cases of male external genitalia lymphedema were encountered. The present case report presents the experience and treatment results of male external genitalia lymphedema from urological cancer. Method: This case was a 47-year-old man, who was treated with complex decongestive physical therapy consisting of manual lymph drainage, compression bandage (including the external genitalia), remedial exercise, skin care. Result: The results were relatively good. The clinical experience would suggest that early treatment and education can reduce the external genitalia lymphedema. However, the treatment efficacy remains limited. Therefore, early treatment is vital for more successful outcomes. Conclusion: The relief of symptoms and a decrease in male external genitalia lymphedema may be the best result from long-term conservative management.

  • Traumatic aortic transection after blunt chest injury is highly lethal and has high operative mortality. Recently, the diagnostic and therapeutic method of this injury is advanced, especially in spinal cord protection during aortic cross-clamping. We have experienced two cases of traumatic aortic transection with left hemothorax after blunt chest injury, which was diagnosed in operative field. The transected aorta was primarily repaired with clamp and sew method and postoperative paraplegia had not occured. The patients were dischraged without any significant complications. We report these cases with a review of literature.

  • This is a report on four cases of bypass for esophageal stricture due to gastro-esophageal carcinoma in the Department of Thoracic Surgery, Chonnam University Hospital. Bypass was performed intrathoracal esophago-jejunostomy by a segment of jejunum. Three patients received end to end anastomosis and the other one side to end esophagojejunostomy. Postoperative results were as follow; There was no swallowing disturbance with regular diet and the patients appear to be more comfortable by bypass than gastrostomy or jejunostomy. Postoperative condition of all the patients was satisfactory because other organs were intact. However, two patients expired in 12 months and 6 months after operation by wide metastasis and the other 2 cases are living now with regular diet in 4 months and 2 months after operation.

  • After the first report of mitral stenosis as a cause of recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy by Ortner in 1897, many authors have described that some kinds of cardiovascular disease might contribute to the development of recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy. The estimated rate of aortic aneurysm related with recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy is about 5%. Aortic aneurysm is classified into 3 types according to the involving segment of aorta in which aneurysms develop, and the first class-aneurysm in ascending aorta and aortic arch-is known to be the only type related to recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy. Recently we experienced two cases of recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy each of which had aneurysm on aortic arch as a major contributing factor. We report these cases with brief review of the literature.

  • The odontogenic myxoma is an infiltrative benign tumor of bone that occurs almost exclusively in the jaw bones and comprises 3% to 6% of odontogenic tumors. This neoplasm is thought to arise from the primitive mesenchymal structures of a developing tooth, including the dental follicle, dental papilla, or periodontal ligament. Radiographically the odontogenic myxoma may produce several patterns: unicystic, multilocular, pericoronal, and radiolucent-radiopaque, making the differential diagnosis difficult. In this report, two cases of the odontogenic myxoma in the jaw bones are presented. The first case involved only the mandible, while the second case involved the maxilla. Both cases presented extensive multilocular radiolucencies characteristic of odontogenic myxoma.

  • Numerous cases of enamel renal syndrome have been previously reported. Various terms, such as enamel renal syndrome, amelogenesis imperfecta and gingival fibromatosis syndrome, and enamel-renal-gingival syndrome, have been used for patients presenting with the dental phenotype characteristic of this condition, nephrocalcinosis or nephrolithiasis, and gingival findings. This report describes a case of amelogenesis imperfecta of the enamel agenesis variety with nephrolithiasis in a 21-year-old male patient who complained of small teeth. The imaging modalities employed were conventional radiography, cone-beam computed tomography, and renal sonography. Such cases are first encountered by dentists, as other organ or metabolic diseases are generally hidden. Hence, cases of amelogenesis imperfecta should be subjected to advanced diagnostic modalities, incorporating both dental and medical criteria, in order to facilitate comprehensive long-term management.

  • Cardiac myxomas are most common benign tumor and comprise approximately 50% of all primary cardiac neoplasms. They are intracavitary tumors occurring within any of the cardiac chambers, but they have a predilection for the atria and particularly the left atrium. Its are usually arise from the region of the limbus of the fossa ovalis. Clinically, they present with various manifestations due to obstruction to blood flow, embolization, and constitutional changes. Excision with the aid of cardiopulmonary bypass has been established as the treatment of choice for these histologically benign, but potentially malignant tumors and has generally produced good results [17]. We have experienced two cases atrial myxomas, one is left, the other is right and resected under established cardiopulmonary bypass, so we report these cases with the review of the literature.

  • Despite all preventive efforts, aspiration of foreign body during clinical dental procedures occurs occasionally. Careful clinical physical examination, proper assessment of radiography and prompt emergency treatment can prevent any potentially serious consequences. In this report, we will report serial cases of foreign body in different situation from mild cases to severe cases and suggest some clinical guidelines to dental health care providers.

  • Objectives: The Purpose of this study is to report the effects of Ondam-tang gagambang on menopause syndrome. Methods: Four patients who had menopause syndrome as chief complaints were treated by Gamiondam-tang or Kuibiondam-tang for two weeks. We evaluated the results of treatment by change of symptoms, Kupperman's Index and Menopause Rating Scale (MRS). Results: After treatment, menopause syndrome cases were improved. Almost scores of Kupperman's Index & Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) were reduced. Conclusions: This study suggests that Ondam-tang gagambang is effective on overall Menopause syndrome cases.
