Cluster analysis of city-level carbon mitigation in South Korea

  • 최근 지구온난화로 인한 폭염, 태풍, 폭설 등 기후변화를 급증하고 있다. 미국 뉴욕에서 개최된 제 25차 '기후변화 당사국총회(COP25)'에 따른 세계 각국은 '탄소중립' 달성하기 위한 협상을 진행했다. 도시는 경제발전뿐만 아니라 탄소중립 과정에서도 중요한 역할을 수행한다. 본 연구는 이산화탄소와 관계되는 경제요인 및 환경요인을 고려하여 엘보우 규칙 (Elbow method) 과 K-means 군집 알고리즘을 활용하여 한국 63개 도시의 탄소배출 현황을 분석하였다. 연구결과에 따른 한국 도시는 기술집약 도시, 경공업 도시, 미래 혁신도시, 중공업 도시, 서비스 집약도시 및 농촌, 가정생산집약도시로 구분될 수 있고 향후 시도별 탄소중립 목표를 실천하기 위해 구체적인 제안을 제시하였다.

저출력 및 고출력 SOEC 시스템의 경제성 분석 비교 (Economic Analysis and Comparison between Low-Power and High-Power SOEC Systems)

  • Hydrogen production using solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOEC) is a promising technology because of its efficiency, cleanness, and scalability. Especially, high-power SOEC system has received a lot of attention from researchers. This study compared and analyzed the low-power and high-power SOEC system in term of economic. By using revenue requirement method, levelized cost of hydrogen (LCOH) was calculated for comparison. In addition, the sensitivity analysis was performed to determine the dependence of hydrogen cost on input variables. The results indicated that high-power SOEC system is superior to a low-power SOEC system. In the capital cost, the stack cost is dominant in both systems, but the electricity cost is the most contributed factor to the hydrogen cost. If the high-power SOEC system combines with a nuclear power plant, the hydrogen cost can reach 3.65 $/kg when the electricity cost is 3.28 ¢/kWh and the stack cost is assumed to be 574 $/kW.

장기미집행공원 개발에 따른 도시 식생 탄소 흡수량에 미치는 영향 및 경제적 가치 평가 (Impact Assessment of Vegetation Carbon Absorption and Economic Valuation Under Long-term Non-executed Urban Park Development)

  • 2020년 일몰제가 시행되면서 장기미집행공원 개발에 대한 우려가 제기되고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 장기미집행공원이 개발됨에 따라 소실되는 탄소량과 경제적 가치를 평가하여 장기미집행공원 개발에 따른 영향 최소화 방안 도출에 근거를 제공하고자 한다. 본 연구에서는 FSDAF 시공간 영상융합기법과 CASA-NPP 모형을 활용하여 서울시 내 장기미집행공원의 연평균 NPP를 산정하고, 이를 바탕으로 5개의 개발 시나리오에 따라 소실되는 탄소량과 경제적 손실을 평가하였다. 서울시 내 개발제한구역을 제외한 장기미집행공원의 총 NPP 값은 4,892.18 t C로 나타났으며, 개발 시나리오 1에서는 4,892.18 t C, 개발 시나리오 2에서는 2,548.55 t C, 개발 시나리오 3에서는 238.94 t C, 개발 시나리오 4에서는 848.38 t C, 개발되는 시나리오 5에서는 1,596.00 t C의 탄소가 소실될 것으로 나타났으며, 각각 5개의 개발 시나리오에 따른 탄소의 사회적 비용을 계산하면 약 11억 8천만원, 6억 1천만원, 5천 8백만원, 2억 5백만원, 3억 8천 5백만원이며 개발로 인해 해당금액의 경제적 손실이 발생할 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 5개의 개발 시나리오를 바탕으로 장기미집행공원의 탄소 손실량과 경제적 손실을 평가하였다는데 의의가 있으며, 일몰제 이후 개발가능성이 높은 장기미집행공원 내 산림생태기능에 대한 영향 최소화 방안 마련, 개발 대안의 기초자료로 활용되기를 기대한다.

Research on sustainable development of international trade in Shandong Province under the background of the fourth industrial revolution

  • Purpose: After entering the 21st century, a new industrial revolution, i.e. industrial revolution 4.0, which is characterized by intelligence, automation and networking, has opened the curtain of the "industry 4.0" era. In recent years, "low-carbon economy" has been a development goal that has been paid close attention to and adhered to at home and abroad. As a major economic province, Shandong Province has not only brought about rapid economic growth, but also caused rapid environmental deterioration due to its high energy consumption, high dependence and high environmental pollution. In this environment, low-carbon economy has become an inevitable trend in the development of foreign trade in Shandong Province. Based on the current situation of foreign trade in Shandong Province and various existing problems, this paper explores the relationship between low-carbon economy and foreign trade in Shandong Province under this strategic background. Research design, data and methodology: By selecting the data from 2008 to 2017, using the carbon emission coefficient method to measure the CO2 emissions in the past decade, analyzing the impact of ecological factors on trade, selecting the most representative GDP and total imports for regression analysis, it is proved that they have a real impact on CO2 emissions. The total GDP is positively correlated with carbon emissions, while the total import is negatively correlated with carbon emissions. Results:This paper discusses the impact of low-carbon economy on foreign trade of Shandong Province from the perspective of foreign trade. Especially in today's "low-carbon economy" background. Conclusions:it is helpful for relevant departments to formulate relevant policies and promote the sustainable development of foreign trade in Shandong Province.

  • Global warming is considered one of the great challenges of the twenty-first century. In order to reduce the ever-increasing amount of methane (CH4) released into the atmosphere, and thus its impact on global climate change, CH4 storage technologies are attracting significant research interest. CH4 storage processes are attracting technological interest, and methane is being applied as an alternative fuel for vehicles. CH4 storage involves many technologies, among which, adsorption processes such as processes using porous adsorbents are regarded as an important green and economic technology. It is very important to develop highly efficient adsorbents to realize techno-economic systems for CH4 adsorption and storage. In this review, we summarize the nanomaterials being used for CH4 adsorption, which are divided into non-carbonaceous (e.g., zeolites, metal-organic frameworks, and porous polymers) and carbonaceous materials (e.g., activated carbons, ordered porous carbons, and activated carbon fibers), with a focus on recent research.

온실가스 감축을 위한 배출권거래제와 탄소세의 정책혼합 효과 분석 (Green-house GAS Reduction Through the Environmental Policy Mixes Both Environmental Trading and Carbon Taxes)

  • 본 연구는 한국에서 온실가스 감축을 위해 온실가스 배출권거래제 또는 탄소세, 그리고 두 정책수단이 혼합하여 도입될 경우 한국의 경제, 에너지소비, 그리고 온실가스 배출량에 미치는 파급효과를 분석하였다. 연산일반균형모형인 KORTEM을 이용한 다양한 시나리오 분석 결과, 탄소세만 부과하는 경우에는 배출권거래제만을 도입하는 경우보다 온실가스 감축의 경제적 비용이 상대적으로 높을 것으로 예측되었다. 따라서 한국은 온실가스 감축을 위한 정책포트폴리오를 설계함에 있어, 국내배출권거래제를 핵심정책으로 도입하며 가능한 많은 기업 및 경제주체들을 배출권거래에 참여시키고, 거래에 참여하지 않는 경제부문의 특성을 반영한 보완적 정책수단을 도입하는 방향으로 정책포트폴리오가 설계되어야 한다.

탄소저감형 트롤어구 개발의 경제성 분석 (Economic analysis of development of low-carbon trawl gear)

  • The main purpose of this study is to analyse economic feasibility of low-carbon-oriented trawl gear. The results of benefit/cost analysis showed that use of the low-carbon fishing gear is economically feasible. Considering the fuel saving and relatively low $CO_2$ emission by reducing the resistance of gear, net present value by such gear improvement was estimated about 2,430~2,853 million won with the benefit-cost ratio 1.65~1.84 and the internal rate of return 29.18~30.48 percent. Development of low-carbon trawl gear would render significant contributions to reducing $CO_2$ emission in fishing operations and lead to reduce fishing costs due to fuel savings.

Sustaining Low-Carbon Emission Development: An Energy Efficient Transportation Plan for CPEC

  • Climate change has become a major challenge for sustainable development of human society. This study is an attempt to analyze existing literature to identify economic indicators that hamper the process of global warming. This paper includes case studies based on various countries to examine the nexus for environment and its relationship with Foreign Direct Investment, transportation, economic growth and energy consumption. Furthermore, the observations are analyzed from the perspective of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and probable impact on carbon emission of Pakistan. A major portion of CPEC investment is allocated for transportation. However, it is evident that transportation sector is substantial emitter of carbon dioxide (CO2) gas. Unfortunately, there is no empirical work on the subject of CPEC and carbon emission for vehicular transportation. This paper infers that empirical results from various other countries are ambiguous and inconclusive. Moreover, the evidence for the pollution haven hypothesis and the halo effect hypothesis is limited in general and inapplicable for CPEC in particular. The major contribution of this study is the proposal of an energy efficient transportation model for reducing CO2 emission. In the end, the paper suggests strategies to climate researchers and policymakers for adaptation and mitigation of greenhouse gases (GHG).

발전용 연료전지 형식에 따른 균등화 발전비용 분석 (Analysis of Levelized Cost of Electricity for Type of Stationary Fuel Cells)

  • For the economic analysis of fuel cells, levelized cost of electricity was calculated according to the type, capacity, and annual production of the fuel cells. The cost of every component was calculated through the system component breakdown. The direct cost of the system included stack cost, component cost, assembly, test, and conditioning cost, and profit markup cost were added. The effect of capacity and annual production was analyzed by fuel cell type. Sensitivity analysis was performed according to stack life, capital cost, project period, and fuel cost. As a result, it was derived how much the economic efficiency of the fuel cell improves as the capacity increases and the annual production increases.

The path analysis of carbon emission reduction: A case study of the Silk Road Economic Belt

  • This paper uses super-efficiency DEA model and Malmquist index to evaluate the carbon emission efficiency (CEE) values of the nine western provinces along the "Silk Road Economic Belt" for the period from 2000 to 2015, and analyses the influencing factors of the CEE. The major findings of this study are the following: (1) the overall CEE of the nine western provinces is not high, and there are significant inter-provincial differences in the CEE. Meanwhile, the provinces with higher levels of economic development generally have higher CEE. (2) The annual total factor productivity (TFP) of the nine western provinces, which is mainly determined by technological change, is greater than 1. Moreover, the total average growth rate of the TFP is 15.5%. (3) The CEE of the nine western provinces is not spatially dependent. In addition, the urbanization, openness, use of energy-saving technologies and research and development (R&D) investment have a significant positive impact on the CEE values, while the industrial structure, foreign direct investment, fixed asset investment, government expenditure levels and energy structure have a significant negative impact on the CEE. Among them, R&D investment is the primary factor in promoting the development of CEE, and the government expenditure has the greatest negative impact on the CEE.
