The purpose of this study was to find the difficulties and problems in the carbon dioxide production experiment and to suggest the device for the improvement. Many students have misconception for the smell of carbon dioxide. I found that the smell of carbon dioxide of producting through the experiment didn't concern with the quantity of calcium carbonate. I certificated that the smell of carbon dioxide was related with the concentration of hydrochloric acid. I built two trap applicaing suction in the gas production device to exclude fully the smell of carbon dioxide. So the smell of carbon dioxide was not present by passing the two trap. To find the ideal experimental conditions I perform the experiment step by step. As the result enough carbon dioxide to use for the property experiment was collected under the condition that is 60 mL of 3 molarity hydrochloric acid and 30 g calcium carbonate. I certificated to mesuring flowing quantity of carbon dioxide using the flow meter of carbon dioxide. In the improvement experiment of the property of carbon dioxide, I proposed the experiment device regarding as spreading of the gas and children's interest. To improve the problem of gas production experiment, I proposed the gas certification device using a thread.

There have been many methods for producing natural gas from gas hydrate reservoirs in permafrost and sea floor sediments. It is well knownthat the depressurization should be a best option for Class 1 gas hydrate deposit, which is composed of tow layers: hydrate bearing layer and an underlying free gas. However many of gas hydrate reservoirs in sea floor sediments are classified as Class 2 that is composed of gas hydrate layer and mobile water, and Class 3 that is a single gas hydrate layer. The most appropriate production methods among the present methods such as thermal stimulation, inhibitor injection, and controlled oxidation are still under development with considering the gas hydrate reservoir characteristics. In East Sea of Korea, it is presumed that the thick fractured shale deposits could be Class 2 or 3, which is similar to the gas hydrate discovered offshore India. Therefore it is needed to evaluate the possible production methods for economic production of natural gas from gas hydrate reservoir. Here we would like to present the production of natural gas from gas hydrate deposit in East Sea with industrial flue gases from steel company, refineries, and other sources. The existing industrial complex in Gyeongbuk province is not far from gas hydrate reservoir of East Sea, thus the carbon dioxide in flue gas could be used to replace methane in gas hydrate. This approach is attractive due to the suggestion of natural gas productionby use of industrial flue gas, which contribute to the reduction of carbon dioxide emission in industrial complex. As a feasibility study, we did the NMR experiments to study the replacement reaction of carbon dioxide with methane in gas hydrate cages. The in-situ NMR measurement suggeststhat 42% of methane in hydrate cages have been replaced by carbon dioxide and nitrogen in preliminary test. Further studies are presented to evaluate the replacement ratio of methane hydrate at corresponding flue gas concentration.
Electrocatalytic reduction can produce useful chemicals and fuels such as carbon monoxide, methane, formate, aldehydes, and alcohols using carbon dioxide, the green house gas, as a reactant through the supply of electrical energy. In this study, tin-lead (Sn-Pb) alloy electrodes are fabricated by electrodeposition on a carbon paper with different alloy composition and used as cathode for electrocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide into formate in an aqueous system. The prepared electrodes are measured by Faradaic efficiency and partial current density for formate production. Electrocatalytic reduction experiments are carried out at -1.8 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) using H-type cell under ambient temperature and pressure and the gas and liquid products are analyzed by gas chromatograph and liquid chromatograph, respectively. As results, the Sn-Pb electrodes show higher Faradaic efficiency and partial current density than the single metal electrode. The Sn-Pb alloy electrode which have Sn:Pb molar ratio=2:1, shows the highest Faradaic efficiency of 88.7%.
The objectives of this study were to determine the effect of applying two different additives to the litter on broiler performance and the carbon dioxide gas production in poultry cages. In two different experiments, the carbon dioxide gas production in poultry litter used for 42 days was measured. The chemical additives were applied to the litter at a rate of 200 g aluminum chloride(A1Cl$_3$ㆍ6$H_2O$) or 200 g aluminum sulfate [Al$_2$(SO$_4$)$_3$ㆍ14$H_2O$, Alum] + 50 g carbon carbonate per kg litter. There was no effect on broiler performance by the litter additives, but the values of carbon dioxide gas produced from broiler litters which were treated with chemical additives were significantly lower(P < 0.05 and 0.01) than that of the control. This study showed that carbon dioxide gas production can be reduced by chemically treating the litter with A1Cl$_3$ or Alum + CaCO$_3$.
Methane carbon dioxide reforming (MCDR) is a promising way of utilizing greenhouse gas for hydrogen-rich fuel production. Compared with other types of reactors, Compact Reformers (CRs) are efficient for fuel processing. In a CR, a thin solid plate is placed between two porous catalyst layers to enable efficient heat transfer between the two catalyst layers. In this study, the physical and chemical processes of MCDR in a CR are studied numerically with a 2D numerical model. The model considers the multi-component gas transport and heat transfer in the fuel channel and the porous catalyst layer, and the MCDR reaction kinetics in the catalyst layer. The finite volume method (FVM) is used for discretizing the governing equations. The SIMPLEC algorithm is used to couple the pressure and the velocity. Parametrical simulations are conducted to analyze in detail the effects of various operating/structural parameters on the fuel processing behavior.

The effect of volatile components on cell growth and polysaccharide production in suspension cultures of Aloe saponaria was investigated using an intelligent on-line gas control system which enabled to control the concentrations of oxygen, carbon dioxide and ethylene simultaneously. Aloe production was enhanced in the presence of exogenous ethylene in the concentration range of 5ppm and 15ppm. Maintaining high tension of carbon dioxide (5% v/v) was found to enhance polysaccharide production significantly.
Fuel cell is one of the promising electrochemical technologies enabling power production with various fuel sources such as hydrogen, hydrocarbon and even solid carbon. However, its long-term performance is often unstable and unpredictable. In this work, we observed that gasification-driven hydrocarbons were the culprit of unpredictability. Therefore, we controlled the presence of hydrocarbons with the help of external gas supply, i.e. argon and carbon dioxide, and suggested the optimal amount of carbon dioxide required for predictable fuel cell operations. Our optimization strategy was based upon the following observations; carbon dioxide can work as both an inert gas and a fuel precursor, depending on its amount present in the reactor. When deficient, the carbon dioxide cannot fully promote the reverse Boudouard reaction that produces carbon monoxide fuel. When overly present, the carbon dioxide works as an inert gas that causes fuel loss. In addition, the excessive carbon monoxide may result in coking on the catalyst surface, leading to the decrease in the power performance.
The use of fossil fuel and biogas production causes air pollution and climate change problems. Research endeavors continue to focus on converting methane and carbon dioxide, which are the major causes of climate change, into quality energy sources. In this study, a novel plasma-carbon converter was proposed to convert biogas into high quality gas, which is linked to photovoltaic and wind power and which poses a problem on generating electric power continuously. The characteristics of conversion and gas production were investigated to find a possibility for biogas conversion, involving parametric tests according to the change in the main influence variables, such as O2/C ratio, total gas feed rate, and CO2/CH4 ratio. A higher O2/C ratio gave higher conversions of methane and carbon dioxide. Total gas feed rate showed maximum conversion at a certain specified value. When CO2/CH4 feed ratio was decreased, both conversions increased. As a result, the production of solar fuel by plasma oxidation destruction-carbon material gasification conversion, which was newly suggested in this study, could be known as a possibly useful technology. When O2/C ratio was 0.8 and CO2/CH4 was 0.67 while the total gas supply was at 40 L min-1 (VHSV = 1.37), the maximum conversions of carbon dioxide and methane were achieved. The results gave the highest production for hydrogen and carbon dioxide which were high-quality fuel.
The gaseous mixtures of iso-propanol of 10 torr with carbon dioxide of 0∼1990 torr were irradiated with Co-60 gamma radiation up to 50 kGy, and the products such as carbon monoxide, acetone, methane, ethane, C$_3$H$_a$, C$_4$H$_b$ and tert-butanol were analyzed by gas chromatography. G(CO) value of 4 was obtained from the gas mixtures containing more than 490 torr of carbon dioxide. The production rates of the organic products and the decomposition rate of iso-propanol increased linearly with the pressure of carbon dioxide, and G(-iso-Propanol) and G(Acetone) values increased by 4 and 2, respectively, with each 10 torr increment of carbon dioxide pressure. The mechanisms of the radiolytic decomposition of iso-propanol and the production of carbon monoxide and organic materials are discussed on the basis of the experimental results of the present study.

Greenhouse gas emissions have a profound effect on global warming. Various environmental regulations have been introduced to reduce the emissions. The largest amount of greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide, is produced in the steel industry. To decrease carbon dioxide emission, hydrogen-based iron oxide reduction, which can replace carbon-based reduction has received a great attention. Iron production generates various by-product gases, such as cokes oven gas (COG), blast furnace gas (BFG), and Linz-Donawitz gas (LDG). In particular, COG, due to its high concentrations of hydrogen and methane, can be reformed to become a major source of hydrogen for reducing iron oxide. Nevertheless, continuous COG cannot be supplied under actual operation condition of steel industry. To solve this problem, this study proposed to use two alternative COG-based fuel mixtures; one with natural gas and the other with biogas. Reforming study on two types of mixed gas were carried out to evaluate catalyst performance under a variety of operating conditions. In addition, methane conversion and product composition were investigated both theoretically and experimentally.
