  • This paper describes the results of bearing capacity using field loading test of pile, in order to extend the applicability of drilled shaft with mid-size, and the results were compared with the prediction results of design bearing capacity by empirical formular. The static load test result showed that the allowable bearing capacity of high pile strength was about 2.4 times higher than that of low pile strength. The dynamic load test result showed that the allowable bearing capacity of high pile strength was about 1.4 times~1.5 times higher than that of low pile strength. The comparison result of allowable bearing capacity between static and dynamic load test showed that the difference of allowable load ranged from 3% to 6% under the same settlement conditions. As a result of comparing the ultimate bearing capacity by load test and design bearing capacity, it was found that the FHWA proposed equation could be more reasonable than the other proposed equation in load sharing ratios of end bearing and skin friction.

  • The vertical bearing capacity of a bucket foundation installed in sand can be calculated as sum of the skin friction and end bearing capacity. However, the current design equations are not considering the non-associated flow characteristics of sand and the reduction in the skin friction and increase in the end bearing capacity when the vertical load is applied. In this study, we perform two-dimensional axisymmetric finite element analyses following non-associated flow rule and calculate the vertical bearing capacity of circular bucket foundation of various sizes installed in sand of different friction angles. After calculating the skin friction and end bearing force at the ultimate state, design equations are derived for each. The skin friction of bucket foundation is shown significantly small compared to the end bearing capacity. Considering the difference with the available design equation for piles, it is recommended that the equation for piles is used for the bucket foundation. A new shape-depth factor ($s_q{\cdot}d_q$) for bucket foundation is recommended which also accounts for the increment of the end bearing capacity due to skin friction. Additionally, the shape and depth factor of embedded foundation proposed from the associated flow rule can overestimate the bearing capacity in sand, so it is more adequate to use the shape-depth factor proposed in this study.

  • When a structure which has relatively low load constructs on soft clay, the bearing capacity of the ground will be improved by sand overlying clay. In this condition, verifying the bearing capacity is difficult from the P.B.T etcetera in the in-situ. So, it is needed to estimate precise bearing capacity in the design process. In this study, 2-dimensional chamber tests and FEM analyses are conducted to evaluate behavior of bearing capacity for shallow foundations on a sand overlying clay. Because depth ratio H/B and bearing capacity ratio $q_c/q_s$ are selected as main factors, height of a sand, undrained shear strength of a clay and width of a loading are designated as variables. Results from chamber tests are very similar with those of FEM analyses. And it shows that punching shear mechanism is more suitable than the equation of Okamura et al.(1998). To make continual application of load spread mechanism, the equivalent load spread angle is proposed for H/B and $q_c/q_s$. Also, the linear regression equation of critical depth ratio Hf is suggested for $q_c/q_s$.

  • In the shear failure mechanism of a beam, beam and arch actions always exist simultaneously. According to the shear span to depth ratio, the proportion between these two actions is varied and the contribution of these actions to shear capacity is changed. Moreover, the current codes provide recommendations based on experimental results of normal strength concrete, so the application range of concrete strength must be extended. Based on this mechanism and new requirement, a simplified analytical equation for shear capacity prediction of reinforced high strength concrete beams without stirrups is proposed. To reflect the change in the contribution between these actions, stress variation in the longitudinal reinforcement along the span is considered by use of the Jenq and Shah Model. Dowel action with horizontal splitting failure and shear friction between cracks are also taken into account. ize effect is included to derive a more precise equation. Regression analysis is performed to determine each variable and simplify the equation. And, the formula derived from theoretical approaches is evaluated by comparison with numerous experimental data, which are in broad range of concrete strength(especially in high strength concrete), shear span to depth ratio, geometrical size and longitudinal steel ratio. It is shown that the proposed equation is more accurate and simpler than other empirical equations, so a wide range of a/d can be considered in one equation.

  • The grate inlets generally were installed to intercept surface runoff on the roads and intercepted flow was drained to the underground sewer system. The equation of interception flow was used to determine the size and spacing of grate inlet on the roads. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the interception capacity of grate inlet. Hydraulic experimental apparatus which can be changed with the longitudinal slopes(2, 4, 6, 8, 10%) of street, the transverse slopes(2, 4, 7, 10%), and the lengths(50, 100, 150cm) of grate inlet was installed for this study. The range of the experimental discharges were calculated with change of road lanes(2, 3, 4) and design frequencies(5, 10, 20, 30year). As the transverse slope increased, it led to the increase of interception capacity at grate inlets. The long lengths of grate inlet with direction of flow increased the interception capacity by the increase of side inflow. On the basis of the hydraulic model experiment results, the empirical equations for calculation of the interception capacity were derived with regression analysis. As a result of comparison with equations, the suggested equation of this study was estimated reasonable one for increased design frequency. Therefore, this study can suggest the basic data for design of drainage facility at road.

  • In this study, a field test of uplift load was carried out using 15 greenhouse foundations fabricated in full scale on a sand soil to examine the uplift capacity of plastic film greenhouse and glasshouse foundations for disasterproof standard. As a result, the maximum uplift capacity of the target greenhouse foundations was shown to be in the range from 11.6kN to 82.4kN according to the differences between the forms and sizes of the foundation. As a result of the examination of the applicability using the field uplift load test result of the theoretical equation proposed for maximum uplift capacity calculation of greenhouse foundations, we found that in general, the conventional theoretical equation for the calculation provided numerical values close to the field test results. However, the soil considered in this study was a sand; thus, in the future, verifying the conventional theoretical equation for the uplift capacity calculation of a cohesive soil would be necessary.

  • Recently, It is built various information systems evolve IT skills. But When you build the information system, Difficult to determine whether the appropriate scale and problems that rely heavily on SI companies and professionals. To solve this problem, Korea Information Security Agency, etc., based on the primary objective was to develop H/W Capacity Equation formally to each system type. But the problems are to present H/W capacity equation by discussion of the expert group of suppliers and relatively long that it is difficult to formally apply in the situation now so it is no longer the limit. In this study, we proposes proper capacity planning techniques, which can guarantee the best performance compared to the budget invested. For this purpose, we derived the proper H/W capacity equation by regression analysis to gather performance metrics and cost of various cases by simulation of a virtual environment in the cloud. Through this study, when capacity planning, It is possible to reduce costs that It is possible to build an information system based on the digitized data and build information system in an environment that does not rely on the SI business or professional.

  • Recently, critical velocity has become a topic to attract most interests from the researchers in the field of tunnel safety. As the minimum velocity to prevent smoke backlayering during a fire, many equations have been proposed so far, and the following three equations are being considered as a standard method in Korea to calculate the capacity of smoke extraction fans. Equation by Kennedy based on Froude number, Tetzner' s equation with additional variable, ${\beta}$ to modify the Kennedy's equation, and the equation with the concept of super critical velocity by Wu are studied in this paper for the comparative purpose. A contour map describing the relationship between the critical velocity and the capacity of smoke extraction fans is proposed as a tool to calculate the number of jet fans for smoke control during a fire in the local tunnels.

  • It has been reported by the existing papers that the ultimate load capacity and energy absorption capacity of the CFST column are considerably higher than those resulting from a simple addition of the capacities of the concrete and the steel tube. It is normally believed that the confined effect for the infilled concrete due to the hoop tension of steel at the parameter of cross sections can remarkably improve the ductility and energy absorption capacities of the CFST columns. This paper provides the results of a study on the load-carrying capacities and energy absorption capacities of the CFST columns, a numerical analysis method, i. e. N-M interaction curves and Moment curvature relationships. The numerical approaches are verified by comparing with the existing test results and the circular and square steel tube sections are selected to clarify the amount of confinement effects to improve the ultimate deformable capacity(a ultimate strain value) of the infilled concrete. Then, an adequate value of the ultimate strain of the infilled concrete and an equation of the ultimate capacity of the CFST column are suggested.

  • Military devices and systems powered by batteries need to operate at extreme temperature and estimate the available capacity of the battery at different temperature conditions. However, accurate estimation of battery capacity is challenging due to the temperature-sensitive nature of electrochemical energy storage. In this paper, Peukert's equation with temperature factor is derived, and methods for estimating the absolute capacity of lithium-polymer battery and the state-of-charge(SOC) with respect to varying currents and temperatures are presented. The proposed estimation method is experimentally verified under three different discharge currents(0.5 A, 1 A, 3 A) and six different temperatures ranging from -30 to 45 deg. C. The results show the proposed method reduces the Peukert's estimation error by up to 30 % under or at extreme condition.
