폐기능 예측식에 따른 폐환기능 장해도 변화 (Changes of Pulmonary Disability Grades according to the Spirometry Reference Equations)

  • Background: The aim was to estimate the differences between pulmonary disability grades according to the spirometry reference equations (the Korean equation and the Morris equation). Methods: Spirometry was performed on 16,916 male and 1,353 female special examination for pneumoconiosis, in the period of 2007~2009. Changes in predictive values for forced expiratory volume in one second ($FEV_1$), forced vital capacity (FVC) and $FEV_1$/FVC and in disability grade were evaluated using both equations. Results: Mean FVCs for men and women were 4,218.7 mL and 2,801.5 mL in predictive values after the application of the Korean equation, and 3,763.9 mL and 2,395.6 mL after the Morris equation, respectively. Compared with the Morris equation, the Korean equation showed 10.8% and 14.5% of excesses for men and women (p<0.001). Mean $FEV_1s$ for men and women were 3,102.5 mL and 2,107.1 mL in the Korean equation, and 2,667.8 mL and 1,699.6 mL in the Morris equation, respectively. Compared with the Morris equation, the Korean equation showed 14.0% and 19.3% of excesses for men and women (p<0.001). Men and women who showed the changes of disability grades using the Korean equation in place of the Morris equation were 23.9% (4,052/16,916) and 22.9% (311/1,353) on FVC, and 23.1% (3,913/16,916) and 10.7% (145/1,353) on $FEV_1$. Conclusion: Applying different reference equations for spirometry has resulted in changes for disability grades in special examination for pneumoconiosis.

  • In designing of slabs, a prediction of the punching shear capacity is one of important concerns. In this study, an equation was proposed to predict the punching shear strength of reinforced concrete slabs. The proposed equation depends on concrete compression strength, steel ratio, effective depth and slab radial length. The good correlation exists between the predicted punching shear strength and the measured.

  • Recently, the application of viscoelastic material in the field of vibration isolation has gradually increased due to its achievement in structural damping capacity, and many of the theoretical and experimental study has been carried out. In this study, the dynamic characteristics of the visoelastically supported cantilever beam, of which govering equation is based on the Bernoulli- Euler equation, is analyzed theoretically and experimentally. Expression for stiffness of multi-layered viscoelastic materal has been developed using variables such as frequency and number of layers, and further, based on this expression, damping characteristic of the beam is investigated with experimental verification.

하드디스크 슬라이더의 동적수치해석 (A Numerical Dynamic Simulation of the Slider in HDD)

  • A numerical dynamic simulation is necessary to investigate the capacity of the HDD. The slider surface become more and more complicated to make the magnetized area smaller and readback signal stronger. So a numerical dynamic simulation must be preceded to develop a new slider in HDD. The dynamic simulations of air-lubricated slider bearing have been peformed using FIFD(Factored Implicit Finite Difference) method. The governing equation, Reynolds equation Is modified with Fukui and Kaneko model(FK model) which includes the first and the second-order slip. The equations of motion for the slider bearing are solved simultaneously with the modified Reynolds equation for the case of three degrees of freedom. The slider transient response for disk step bump and slider impulse force is given for various case and for iteration algorithm and new algorithm.

충전층내에서 축열에 따른 열전달 (Heat Storage in a packed Bed)

  • An experiment has been performed of find a temperature distribution of the circulating fluid in a packed bed thermal storage system when the inlet fluid temperature is constant. The thermal storage system is a specific-heat type in which the circulating fluid, hot air, exchanges heat directly with the heat storage materials, glass balls, in a heat storage bin. An empirical equation which includes two dimensionless variables $t^*\;and\;T_f^*$, is obtained. Also, heat storage efficiency and heat storage capacity are calculated from this equation, The heat transfer coefficient calculated by the suggested equation was compared with the value determined by the existing empirical equation.

  • Overseas construction projects tend to be more complex than domestic projects, being exposed to more external risks, such as politics, economy, society, and culture, as well as more internal risks from the project itself. It is crucial to have an early understanding of the project condition, in order to be well prepared in various phases of the project. This study compares a structural equation model and multiple regression analysis, in their capacity to predict cost performance of international construction projects. The structural equation model shows a more accurate prediction of cost performance than does regression analysis, due to its intrinsic capability of considering various cost factors in a systematic way.

  • The Richards' equation attracts the attention of several scientific researchers due to its importance in the hydrogeology field especially porous soil. This work presents a numerical method to solve the two dimensional Richards' equation. The pressure form and the mixed form of Richards' equation are solved numerically using a bivariate diamond finite volumes scheme. Euler explicit scheme is used for the time discretization. Different test cases are done to validate the accuracy and the efficiency of our numerical model and to compare the possible numerical strategies. We started with a first simple test case of Richards' pressure form where the hydraulic capacity and the hydraulic conductivity are taken constant and then a second test case where the hydrodynamics parameters are linear variables. Finally, a third test case where the soil parameters are taken according the Van Gunchten empirical model is presented.

  • A practical approach of calculating the ultimate strength of composite beams with unreinforced web opening is proposed. In this method, the slab shear contribution at the opening is calculated as the smaller of the shear strength of the slab and the pullout capacity of the shear connectors at the high moment end. A simple interaction equation is used to predict the ultimate strength under simultaneous bending moment and shear force. Strength prediction by the proposed method is compared with previous test results and the predictions by other analytical method. The comparison shows that the proposed method predicts the ultimate capacity with resonable accuracy.

  • In the electric railway systems, it is very important that we should design the system configuration, location and power capacity of substation. This paper presents the results of system configuration and system design of the DC traction power supply for the test line of Light Rail Vehicle. The voltage fluctuation of train and the power capacity of substation are calculated by computer simulation using the nodal equation, K.C.L/K.V.L, Ohm's law and superposition theory.

  • This problem of product selection and princing are considered in congested and uncongested markets. In a congested market, such as a computer service market, product quality (the level of congestion) is partly a function of the amount of usage, which in turn depands on user choice. In an uncongested market, product qualities are set solely by providers. A model of quality and capacity variation is developed using a state equation description to represent user optimizing behavior. The model is used to study the problem of scarce resources among competing user demands through quality-dependent pricing.
