  • This paper introduces a nitrogen-doped ordered mesoporous carbon (NOMC) derived from glucosamine with hybrid capacitive behaviors, achieved by successfully combining electrical double-layer capacitance with pseudo-capacitance behaviors. The nitrogen doping content of the fabricated NOMC reached 7.4 at% while its specific surface area ($S_{BET}$) and total pore volume reached $778m^2g^{-1}$ and $1.17cm^3g^{-1}$, respectively. A dual mesoporous structure with small mesopores centered at 3.6 nm and large mesopores centered at 9.9 nm was observed. The specific capacitance of the reported materials reached up to $328Fg^{-1}$, which was 2.1 times higher than that of pristine CMK-3. The capacitance retention rate was found to be higher than 87.9% after 1000 charge/discharge cycles. The supplementary pseudocapacitance as well as the enhanced wettability and conductivity due to the incorporation of nitrogen heteroatoms within the carbon matrixes were found to be responsible for the excellent capacitive performance of the reported NOMC materials.

  • In this study, polyaniline (PANI)/graphene nanosheet (GNS) composites were synthesized through chemical oxidation polymerization by changing the weight ratio of aniline monomers. To examine the morphological structure of the composites, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were conducted. TEM results revealed that fibril-like PANI with a diameter of 50 nm was homogeneously coated on the surface of the GNS. The electrochemical properties of the composites were studied by cyclic voltammetry in 1 M $H_2SO_4$ electrolyte. Among the prepared samples, the PANI/GNS (having 40 wt% aniline content) showed the highest specific capacitance, 528 $Fg^{-1}$, at 10 $mVs^{-1}$. The improved performance was attributed to the GNS, which provides a large number of active sites and good electrical conductivity. The resulting composites are promising electrode materials for high capacitative supercapacitors.

  • The basic heat transfer process that occurs in a building can best be illustrated by an electrical circuit network. Present paper reports the dynamic simulation of annual energy consumption in an office building by the thermal resistance capacitance network method. Unsteady thermal behaviors and annual energy consumption in an office building were examined in detail by solving the simultaneous circuit equations of thermal network. The results are used to evaluate the accuracy of the modified BIN method for the energy consumption analysis of a large building. Present thermal resistance-capacitance method predicts annual energy consumption of an office building with the same accuracy as that of response factor method. However, the modified BIN method gives 15% lower annual heating load and 25% lower cooling load than those from the present method. Equipment annual energy consumptions for fan, boiler and chiller in the HVAC system are also calculated for various control systems as CAV, VAV, FCU+VAV and FCU+CAV. FCU+CAV system appears to consume minimum annual energy among them.

  • Carbon-based electric double-layer capacitors are being evaluated as potential energy-storage devices in an expanding number of applications. In this study, samples of carbon black (CB) treated at different temperatures ranging from $650^{\circ}C$ to $1100^{\circ}C$ were used as electrodes to improve the efficiency of a capacitor. The surface properties of the heat-treated CB samples were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The effect of the heat-treatment temperature on the electrochemical behaviors was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and in galvanostatic charge-discharge experiments. The experimental results showed that the crystallinity of the CBs increased as the heat-treatment temperature increased. In addition, the specific capacitance of the CBs was found to increase with the increase in the heat-treatment temperature. The maximum specific capacitance was 165 $F{\cdot}g-1$ for the CB sample treated at $1000^{\circ}C$.

  • Capacitance measurements of the polymer light-emitting diodes (PLEDs) with conjugated polyelectrolyte (CPE) electron transporting layers (ETLs) provide important information of device physics for understanding the function of CPEs as ETLs, together with current density-voltage-luminescence measurements. We investigated the counterion-dependent capacitance behaviors that present a highly negative or positive capacitance at the low frequency, and suggested different carrier injection mechanisms. Capacitance model study reveals that the electron injection mechanism can be described either by the dipole alignment scheme or by electronic charge carrier accumulation at the cathode/ETL/emission layer interfaces.

  • Ni-benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid based metal organic frameworks were successfully synthesized by hydrothermal method and thermally treated at various temperature. The electrochemical performance of composites was investigated using cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge-discharge, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Among all prepared composites, the samples annealed at $250^{\circ}C$ showed the highest capacitance with a low resistance, and high cycle stability. It was possible to obtain the low electrical resistance and high electric conductivity of the electrode by improved microstructure and morphology after the thermal annealing at $250^{\circ}C$. The samples annealed at $250^{\circ}C$ also displayed the maximum specific capacitance with a value of $953Fg^{-1}$ at a current density of $0.66A/g^{-1}$ in 6 M KOH electrolyte. Moreover, a 86.4% of the initial specific capacitance of the composite was maintained after 3,000 times charge-discharge cycle tests. Based on these properties, it can be concluded that the composite could be applied as potential supercapacitor electrode materials.

  • $BaTiO_3$ based multilayer ceramic capacitors with Ni electrodes can be explained as 2-2 composites with different thermal expansion coefficient and sintering behaviors. To achieve the high capacitance and reliability of MLCCs, a homogenous Ni electrode configuration with high connectivity is required. We controlled the heating rates during sintering to achieve densification by suppressing grain growth. Experimental results revealed that a large heating rate gave high connectivity of Ni electrode, high capacitance, small dissipation factor, high breakdown voltage, and high reliability of MLCC chips.

  • In this work, the electrochemical properties of the surface treated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) are investigated for supercapacitors. Nitrogen- and oxygen functional groups containing MWNTs are prepared by nitrogen precursors and acidic treatment, respectively. The surface properties of the MWNTs are confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Zeta-potential measurements. The electrochemical properties of the MWNTs are investigated by cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectra, and charge-discharge cycling performance in 1 M $H_2SO_4$ at room temperature. As a result, these functionalized MWNTs lead to an increase in the specific capacitance as compared with the pristine MWNTs. It proposes that the pyridinic and pyridinic-N-oxides nitrogen species influence on the specific capacitance due to their positive charges, and thus an improved electron transfer at high current loads, since they are the most important functional groups affecting capacitive behaviors.

  • As the society demands the high performance energy storage devices, development of efficient and renewable energy storage materials has been a topic of interest. Here, we report pseudocapacitive behaviors of biopolymer (lignin) that was confined onto reduced graphene oxides (RGOs) for a renewable energy storage system. The strong surface confinement of quinone groups onto the electroconductive RGOs created the renewable hybrid electrodes for supercapacitors (SCs) with fast and reversible redox charge transfer. As a result, the pseudocapacitors fabricated with the hybrid electrodes of lignin and RGO presented the outstanding electrochemical performances of remarkable rate and cyclic performances:~4% capacitance drop after 3000 cycles and a maximum capacitance of 432 F g-1.
