  • Many victims and property damages are caused in fires every year. In this paper, flame and smoke detection algorithm by using image processing technique is proposed to early alarm fires. The first decision of proposed algorithms is to check candidate of flame region with its unique color distribution distinguished from artificial lights. If it is not a flame region then we can check to candidate of smoke region by measuring difference of brightness and chroma at present frame. If we just check flame and smoke with only simple brightness and hue, we will occasionally get false alarms. Therefore we also use motion information about candidate of flame and smoke regions. Finally, to determine the flame after motion detection, activity information is used. And in order to determine the smoke, edges detection method is adopted. As a result of simulation with real CCTV video signal, it is shown that the proposed algorithm is useful for early fire recognition.

  • In this paper, we convert underwater acoustic signal made by sonar system into digital image. We propose the algorithm that detects target candidate and emphasizes information of target introducing image processing technique for the digital image. The process detecting underwater target estimates background noise in underwater acoustic signal changing irregularly, recomposes it. and eliminates background from original image. Therefore, it generates initial target group. Also, it generates weighted map through proceeding doppler information, ensures information for target candidate through filtering using weighted map for image eliminated background noise, and decides the target candidate area in the single frame. In this paper, we verified that proposed algorithm almost had eliminated the noise generated irregularly in underwater acoustic signal made by simulation, targets had been displayed more surely in the image of underwater acoustic signal through filtering and process of target detection.

  • This paper proposes an effective, four-stage smoke detection method based on video that provides emergency response in the event of unexpected hazards in early fire-alarming systems. In the first phase, an approximate median method is used to segment moving regions in the present frame of video. In the second phase, a color segmentation of smoke is performed to select candidate smoke regions from these moving regions. In the third phase, a feature extraction algorithm is used to extract five feature parameters of smoke by analyzing characteristics of the candidate smoke regions such as area randomness and motion of smoke. In the fourth phase, extracted five parameters of smoke are used as an input for a K-nearest neighbor (KNN) algorithm to identify whether the candidate smoke regions are smoke or non-smoke. Experimental results indicate that the proposed four-stage smoke detection method outperforms other algorithms in terms of smoke detection, providing a low false alarm rate and high reliability in open and large spaces.

  • A lane detection based on a road model or feature all need correct acquirement of information on the lane in a image, It is inefficient to implement a lane detection algorithm through the full range of a image when being applied to a real road in real time because of the calculating time. This paper defines two searching range of detecting lane in a road, First is searching mode that is searching the lane without any prior information of a road, Second is recognition mode, which is able to reduce the size and change the position of a searching range by predicting the position of a lane through the acquired information in a previous frame. It is allow to extract accurately and efficiently the edge candidates points of a lane as not conducting an unnecessary searching. By means of removing the perspective effect of the edge candidate points which are acquired by using the inverse perspective transformation, we transform the edge candidate information in the Image Coordinate System(ICS) into the plane-view image in the World Coordinate System(WCS). We define linear approximation filter and remove the fault edge candidate points by using it This paper aims to approximate more correctly the lane of an actual road by applying the least-mean square method with the fault-removed edge information for curve fitting.

  • The artificial captions appearing in videos include information that relates to the videos. In order to obtain the information carried by captions, many methods for caption extraction from videos have been studied. Most traditional methods of detecting caption region have used one frame. However video include not only spatial information but also temporal information. So we propose a method of detection caption region using temporal and spatial information. First, we make improved Text-Appearance-Map and detect continuous candidate regions through matching between candidate-regions. Second, we detect disappearing captions using disappearance test in candidate regions. In case of captions disappear, the caption regions are decided by a merging process which use temporal and spatial information. Final, we decide final caption regions through ANNs using edge direction histograms for verification. Our proposed method was experienced on many kinds of captions with a variety of sizes, shapes, positions and the experiment result was evaluated through Recall and Precision.

  • In this paper, an ARS-EKF based motion counting algorithm for repetitive exercises such as calisthenics is proposed using a smartwatch. Raw sensor signals from accelerometers and gyroscopes are widely used for conventional smartwatch counting algorithms based on pattern recognition. However, generated features from raw data are not intuitive to reflect the movement of motions. The proposed motion counter algorithm is composed of navigation based feature generation and counting with error correction. The candidate features for each activity are velocity and attitude calculated through an ARS-EKF algorithm. In order to select those features which reveal the characteristics of each motion, an exercise frame from the initial sensor frame is introduced. Counting processes are basically based on the zero crossing method, and misdetected counts are eliminated via simple classification algorithms considering the frequency of the counted motions. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm efficiently and accurately counts the number of exercises.

  • In this paper, we have developed base-calling error detection program and algorithm which show the list of the genes or sequences that are suspected to contain base-calling errors. Those programs detect dubious bases in a few aspects in the process of microbial genome project. The first module detects base-calling error from the Phrap file by using contig assembly information. The second module analyzes frame shift mutation if it is originated from real mutation or artifact. Finally, in the case that there is control microbial genome annotation information, the third module extracts and shows the candidate base-calling error list by comparative genome analysis method.

  • H.264| MPEG-4 AVC is a new video codingstandard defined by JVT (Joint Video Team) which consists of ITU-T and ISO/IEC. Many techniques are adopted fur the compression efficiency: Especially, an intra prediction in an inter frame is one example but it leads to excessive amount of encoding time due to the decision of a candidate mode and a RDcost calculation. For this reason, a fast determination of the best intra prediction mode is the main issue for saving the encoding time. In this paper, by using the result of statistical relation between intra $16{\times}16$ and $4{\times}4$ intra predictions, the number of candidate modes for $4{\times}4$ intra prediction is reduced. Firstly, utilizing motion vector obtained after inter prediction, prediction of a block mode for each macroblock is made. If an intra prediction is needed, the correlation table between $16{\times}16$ and $4{\times}4$ intra predicted modes is created using the probability during each I frame-coding process. Secondly, using this result, the candidate modes for a $4{\times}4$ intra prediction that reaches a predefined specific probability value are only considered in the same GOP For the experiments, JM11.0, the reference software of H.264|MPEG-4 AVC is used and the experimental results show that the encoding time could be reduced by 51.24% in maximum with negligible amounts of PSNR drop and bitrate increase.

  • After the launch of MPEG-2, it is widely used in multimedia applications like a Digital-TV or a DVD. Then, After the launch of H.264 at 2004, it has been expected to replace MPEG-2 and services IPTV and DMB. As we have been used to MPEG-2 devices by this time, we can not access H.264 Broadcast with MPEG-2 device. So We propose a new approach to transcode H.264 video into MPEG-2 form which can facilitate to display H.264 video with MPEG-2 device. To reduce the quality loss by transcoding, we use CPDT(Cascaded Pixel Domain Transcoder) structure. And to minimize processing time, SKIP block, INTRA block and motion vectors obtain from decoding process is employed for transcoding. we use BMA(Boundary Matching Algorithm) to select only one from candidate motion vectors. Experimental results show a considerable improved PSNR with reduction in processing time compared with existing methods.

  • Composite materials are used for main structural components of aircraft fuselage such as skin, stringer and frame to reduce weight. Failure and buckling analysis of the composite fuselage components have been done for structural design. The loads of MD90-30 are applied to each component. Various shapes of section such as I, Z and T-type are chosen as candidate composite stringer and frame. The analysis results of composite fuselage components are compared according to ply-angle and ply-number, and the section type. The numerical results shows that ply-angle and ply-number have important effects on failure caused by axial load for the frame are important design parameters of composite fuselage components. This study suggests several design tips for composite fuselage components.
