  • Robots will be able to coexist with humans and support humans effectively in near future. One of the most important aspects in the development of human-friendly robots is to cooperation between humans and robots. In this paper, we proposed a method for multi-object identification in order to achieve such human-centered system and robot localization in intelligent space. The intelligent space is the space where many intelligent devices, such as computers and sensors, are distributed. The Intelligent Space achieves the human centered services by accelerating the physical and psychological interaction between humans and intelligent devices. As an intelligent device of the Intelligent Space, a color CCD camera module, which includes processing and networking part, has been chosen. The Intelligent Space requires functions of identifying and tracking the multiple objects to realize appropriate services to users under the multi-camera environments. In order to achieve seamless tracking and location estimation many camera modules are distributed. They causes some errors about object identification among different camera modules. This paper describes appearance based object representation for the distributed vision system in Intelligent Space to achieve consistent labeling of all objects. Then, we discuss how to learn the object color appearance model and how to achieve the multi-object tracking under occlusions.

  • In this study, we proposed a three-dimensional (3D) scanning system based on laser-vision technique and rotary mechanism for automatic 3D model reconstruction. The proposed scanning system consists of a laser projector, a camera, and a turntable. For laser-camera calibration a new and simple method was proposed. 3D point cloud data of the surface of scanned object was fully collected by integrating extracted laser profiles, which were extracted from laser stripe images, corresponding to rotary angles of the rotary mechanism. The obscured laser profile problem was also solved by adding an addition camera at another viewpoint. From collected 3D point cloud data, the 3D model of the scanned object was reconstructed based on facet-representation. The reconstructed 3D models showed effectiveness and the applicability of the proposed 3D scanning system to 3D model-based applications.

  • In this study, we propose a new input device using vision technology for positioning of multiple DOFs. The input device is composed of multiple Tags on a transparent table and a vision camera below the table. Vision camera detects LEDs at the bottom of each Tag to derive information of the ID, position and orientation. The information are used to determine position and orientation of remote target DOFs. Our developed approach is very reliable and effective, especially when the corresponding DOFs are from many independent individuals. We show an application example with a SCARA robot to prove the flexibility and extendability.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a powerful 6-axes general welding robot utilizing a low cost vision system. The developed vision system is composed of a CCD camera, a PC with windows 98 OS, and a PC-Robot communication program using Visual C++. A test was carried out to investigate whether the welding torch can precisely follow up the welding path. It shows that the result of this study can readily be applied to practical welding operations.

  • Recently, the vision system has the wide and growing' application field on account of the vast information from that visual mechanism. Especially, in the control field, the vision system has been applied to the industrial robot. In this paper, the object tracking and grasping task is accomplished by the robot vision system with a camera in the robot hand. The camera setting method is proposed to implement that task in a simple way. In spite of the calibration error, the stable grasping task is achieved using the tracking control algorithm based on the vision feature.

  • In this paper we propose a new approach to the development of the automatic vision system to examine and repair the steam generator tubes at remote distance. In nuclear power plants, workers are reluctant of works in steam generator because of the high radiation environment and limited working space. It is strongly recommended that the examination and maintenance works be done by an automatic system for the protection of the operator from the radiation exposure. Digital signal processors are used in implementing real time recognition and examination of steam generator tubes in the proposed vision system. Performance of proposed digital vision system is illustrated by simulation and experiment for similar steam generator model.

  • A vision sensor measure range data using laser light source, This sensor generally use patterned laser which shaped single line. But this vision sensor cannot satisfy new trend which needs faster and more precise processing. The sensor's sampling rate increases as reduced image processing time. However, the sampling rate can not over 30fps, because a camera has mechanical sampling limit. If we use multi line laser pattern, we will measure multi range data in one image. In the case of using same sampling rate camera, number of 2D range data profile in one second is directly proportional to laser line's number. For example, the vision sensor using 5 laser lines can sample 150 profiles per second in best condition.

  • This paper describes a vision-based line recognition and control of driving direction for an AGV(autonomous guided vehicle). As navigation guide, black stripe attached on the corridor is used. Binary image of guide stripe captured by a CCD camera is used. For detect the guideline quickly and extractly, we use for variable thresholding algorithm. this low-cost line-tracking system is efficiently using pc-based real time vision processing. steering control is studied through controller with guide-line angle error. This method is tested via a typical agv with a single camera in laboratory environment.

  • In a conventional camera system, a target tracking system consists of a camera part and a image processing part. However, in the field of the real time image processing, the vision chip for edge detection which was made by imitating the algorithm of humanis retina is superior to the conventional digital image processing systems because the human retina uses the parallel information processing method. In this paper, we present a high speed target tracking system using the function of the CMOS vision chip for edge detection.

  • A Robot vision system with a visual skill so as take information for arbitrary target or object has been applied to auto-inspection and assembling system. It catches the moving target with the manipulator by using the information from the vision system. The robot needs some information where the moving object will place after certain time. A camera is fixed on a robot manipulator, not on the fixed support outside of the robot. It secures wider working area than the fixed camera, and it dedicates to auto scanning of the object. It computes some information on the object center, angle and speed by vision data, and can guess grabbing spot by arriving time. When the location ...
