  • Photoplethysmography (PPG) is a convenient method for monitoring a heart rhythm. In addition to specialized devices, smartphones can be used to obtain PPG signals. However, as smartphones are not intended for this purpose, optimization is required to efficiently obtain PPG signals. Determining the optimal region of interest (ROI) is one such optimization method. There are two significant advantages in employing an optimized ROI. One is that the computing load is decreased by reducing the image size used to extract the PPG signal. The other is that stronger and more reliable PPG signals are obtained by removing noisy regions. In this paper, we propose an optimal ROI determination method by recursively splitting regions to locate the region that produces the strongest PPG signal.

  • A real time system realization for binocular eyeball tracking cursor on the computer monitor screen is presented in the paper. The processing for searching iris and tracking the cursor are that a facial is acquired by the small CCD camera, convert it into binary image, search for the eye two using the five region mask method in the eye surroundings and the side four points diagonal positioning method is searched the each iris. The tracking cursor is matched by measuring the iris central moving position, The cursor controlling is achieved by comparing two related distances between the iris maximum moving and the cursor moving to calculate the moving stance from gazing position and screen. The experimental result are obtained by examining some adults person on the system.

  • In this paper, we propose a new localization system using ceiling outlines. We acquire the entire ceiling image by using fisheye lens camera, and extract the lines by binarization and segmentation. The optical flow algorithm is then applied to identify the ceiling region from the segmented regions. Finally we obtain the position and orientation of the robot by the center position and momentum of ceiling region. Since we use the fully detected outlines, the accuracy and reliability of the localization system is improved. The experimental result are finally presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • RAZAKSAT is a second micro-satellite mission by Malaysian Satellite Program and is expected for launch in June 2004. Designed to orbit the earth at low-equatorial orbit, RAZAKSAT will meet Malaysia’s immediate needs to rapid data acquisition (real time and more repetitions) to address many operational issues of remote sensing applications, which require availability of current data sets. RAZAKSAT will be among the first remote sensing satellite to orbit the earth at low inclination along the equator, 9$^{\circ}$ with 685km altitude, hence, allows optimal geographical information and environment change within equatorial region be observed with a unique revisit characteristics. The satellite primary payload is MAC, a push-broom type camera with 2.5m of ground sampling distance (GSD) in panchromatic band and 5m of GSD in four multi-spectral bands. This paper describes on the variation of illumination anticipated from simulated RAZAKSAT image, examine its implication to its ground leaving radiances for major applications.

  • MSC(Multi-Spectral Camera) system is a remote sensing instrument to obtain high resolution ground image. MSC system includes main control unit, called SBC(Single Board Computer). SBC controls all the sub-units of MSC system and communicates with spacecraft bus. The software developed for SBC should be reliable and autonomous to support various kinds of imaging missions. It is being developed using VxWorks real-time operating system to manage all tasks for all units efficiently. In this paper, the characteristics of the embedded software on the MSC system will be presented. It covers the hardware related characteristics like the BSP(Board Support Package), device driver and code patch mechanism.

  • High-resolution satellite images at sub-5m footprint are becoming increasingly available to the earth observation community and their respective clients. The related cameras are all using linear array CCD technology for image sensing. The possibility and need for accurate 3D object reconstruction requires a sophisticated camera model, being able to deal with such sensor geometry. We have recently developed a full suite of new methods and software for the precision processing of this kind of data. The software can accommodate images from IKONOS, QuickBird, ALOS PRISM, SPOT5 HRS and sensors of similar type to be expected in the future. We will report about the status of the software, the functionality and some new algorithmic approaches in support of the processing concept. The functionality will be verified by results from various pilot projects. We put particular emphasis on the automatic generation of DSMs, which can be done at sub-pixel accuracy and on the semi-automated generation of city models.

  • Depth error correction effect for maladjusted stereo cameras with calibrated pixel distance parameter is presented. Intra and extra parameters should be obtain to determine the relation between image and world coordination through experiment. One difficulty is in camera alignment for parallel installation: placing two CCD arrays in a plane. If the pixel distance parameter which is one of intra parameter is calibrated with known points, such error can be compensated in some amount. Such error compensation effect with the calibrated pixel distance parameter is demonstrated with various experimental results.

  • Thermo-chromic Liquid Crystal(TLC) particles were used as temperature sensor for thermal fluid flow. 1K $\times$ 1K CCD color camera and Xenon Lamp(500w) were used for the visualization of a Hele-Shaw cell The characteristic between the reflected colors from the TLC and their corresponding temperature shows strong non-linearity A neural network known as having strong mapping capability for non-linearity is adopted to quantify the temperature field using the image of the flow. Improvements of color-to-temperature mapping was attained by using the local color luminance (Y) and hue (H) information as the inputs for the constructed neural network.
