  • There is strong demand to create wearable PC systems that can support the user outdoors. When we are outdoors, our movement makes it impossible to use traditional input devices such as keyboards and mice. We propose a hand gesture interface based on image processing to operate wearable PCs. The semi-transparent PC screen is displayed on the head mount display (HMD), and the user makes hand gestures to select icons on the screen. The user's hand is extracted from the images captured by a color camera mounted above the HMD. Since skin color can vary widely due to outdoor lighting effects, a key problem is accurately discrimination the hand from the background. The proposed method does not assume any fixed skin color space. First, the image is divided into blocks and blocks with similar average color are linked. Contiguous regions are then subjected to hand recognition. Blocks on the edges of the hand region are subdivided for more accurate finger discrimination. A change in hand shape is recognized as hand movement. Our current input interface associates a hand grasp with a mouse click. Tests on a prototype system confirm that the proposed method recognizes hand gestures accurately at high speed. We intend to develop a wider range of recognizable gestures.

  • The advantage of the remote sensing is extraction the information of wide area rapidly. Such advantage is the resource and environment are quick and efficient method to grasps accurately method through the land cover classification of wide area. Accordingly this study was presented more better land cover classification method through an algorithm development. We accomplished FCM(Fuzzy C-Mean) classification technique with MLC (Maximum Likelihood classification) technique to be general land cover classification method in the content of research. And evaluated the accuracy assessment of two classification method. This study is used to the high-resolution(6.6m) Electro-Optical Camera(EOC) panchromatic image of the first Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite 1(KOMPSAT-1) and the multi-spectral Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS) image data(36 bands).

  • People are important targets for video surveillance and monitoring(VSAM) but difficult to be analyzed. In this paper, a technique to count people in image sequences is dealt as a prerequisite procedure for automatic tracking and behaviour analysis. A group of people is divided at local minima of the line connecting the highest pixels on the binary image of the people extracted from the image taken by a stationary video camera. As the properties of the divided regions vary according to the relative positions of the people in a group, different states are assigned for the completely occluded, partially occluded, completed separated individual, and wrongly divided regions. By analyzing the transition of the states of divided regions, the number of people on the site monitored is estimated. The technique is checked in real experimental situations.

  • Fires are the most common disaster and early fire detection is of great importance to minimize the consequent damage. Simple sensors including smoke detectors are widely used for the purpose but they are able to sense fires only at close proximity. Recently, due to the rapid advances of relevant technologies, vision-based fire sensing has attracted growing attention. In this paper, a novel visual sensing technique to automatically detect fire is presented. The proposed technique consists of multiple steps of image processing: pixel-level, block-level, and frame level. At the first step, fire flame pixel candidates are selected based on their color values in YIQ space from the image of a camera which is installed as a vision sensor at a fire scene. At the second step, the dynamic parts of flames are extracted by comparing two consecutive images. These parts are then represented in regularly divided image blocks to reduce pixel-level detection error and simplify following processing. Finally, the temporal change of the detected blocks is analyzed to confirm the spread of fire. The proposed technique was tested using real fire images and it worked quite reliably.

  • In this paper, we propose that the polyphase scaler whose performance to that of the bicubic method, has less complexity in hardware structure. In order to get the new information, proposed system is based on the group delay which is one of the digital filter characteristics. The performance of this system is superior to that of bicubic algorithm which is well known. Because the hardware structure is simpler than other image scalers, we can adopt this system for mobile devices easily. The previous polyphase filters make blurring noise which is generated by up-scaling. We replace polyphase filters by boost-up filter to get vivid image. The proposed scaler is verified by Xilinx Virtex2 FPGA and is used as digital Boom in mobile camera phone.

  • In this paper, we propose an information service system using augmented reality technology on mobile devices. With the advancement in ICT technology the computer is smaller and easy to carry and developed into the tablet PC and the smartphone typically. The user can confirm and learn the desired data using the augmented reality technology, regardless of the environment. Padding the supplementary images or videos to the real image using the camera, we can have help from such additionally obtained images. In this paper, using an augmented reality technology on a tablet PC or smartphone environment, we implement a system for providing information to the user. This system can be utilized in all areas such as learning, entertainment, public relations and advertisement, etc.

  • The quality of steel plate products is determined by the number of defects and the process problems are estimated by shapes of defects. Therefore pinholes defects of cold rolled steel have to be controlled. In order to improve productivity and quality of products, within each production process, the product is inspected by an adequate inspection system individually in the lines of steelworks. Among a number of inspection systems, we focus on the pinholes detection system. In this paper, we propose an embedded system using FPGA which can detect pinholes defects. The proposed system is smaller and more flexible than a traditional system based on expensive frame grabbers and PC. In order to detect consecutive defects, FPGAs acquire two dimensional image and process the image in real time by using correlation of lines. The proposed pinholes detection algorithm decreases arithmetic operations of image processing and also we designed the hardware to shorten the data path between logics due to decreasing propagation delay. The experimental results show that the proposed embedded system detects the reliable number of pinholes in real time.

  • In this paper, a novel algorithm for segmentation of moving multiple vehicles in video sequences using logic operations is proposed. For the case of multiple vehicles in a scene, the proposed algorithm begins with a robust double-edge image derived from the difference between two successive frames using exclusive OR operation. After extracting only the edges of moving multiple vehicles using Laplacian filter, AND operation and dilation operation, the image is segmented into moving multiple vehicle image. The features of moving vehicles can be directly extracted from the segmented images. The proposed algorithm has no the two preprocessing steps, so it can reduce noises which are norm at in preprocessing of the original images. The algorithm is more simplified using logic operations. The proposed algorithm is evaluated on an outdoor video sequence with moving multiple vehicles in 90,000 frames of 30fps by a low-end video camera and produces promising results.

  • In this paper, we developed an omni-directional surveillance and motion detection method. The fish-eye lens provides a wide field of view image. Using this image, the equi-distance model for the fish-eye lens is applied to get the perspective and panorama images. Generally, we must consider the trade-off between resolution and field of view of an image from a camera. To enhance the resolution of the result images, some kind of interpolation methods are applied. Also the moving edge method is used to detect moving objects for the object tracking.

  • Magnetization is very important in the ferro-magnetic physics and provides useful informations in the application field of magnetic devices. Generally, the only first acquired domain pattern is not helpful to recognize domain pattern. Many images are needed to visualize domain pattern through image processing. These images were obtained a 8-bit digital camera. The operation was the subtraction of pixel values of multi domain imanges from the images with 255 of pixel value, which was obtained in the saturated state of magnetic materials. The magnetic domain images was visualized gradually with increasing the number of subtracion operation. LABVIEW was used as an image processing tool and the optic microscope with a polarizer was used in this experiment.
