The gyroscope free strap-down INS is composed only of accelerometers. Any gyroscope free INS navigation error is deeply affected by the accuracy of the sensor bias, scale factor, orientation and location error. However these parameters can be found by calibration. There is an important research issue about a multi-position calibration method in this paper. It provides a novel method to find the error parameters for the six-accelerometer INS. A superior simulation is shown that the multi-position calibration can find the specifications of a six-accelerometer INS in laboratory. From these parameters the six-accelerometer INS could apply in realistic navigation.
In this paper presents an accurate AFM used that is free from the Z-directional distortion of a servo actuator is described. Two mathematical correction methods by the in-situ self-calibrationare employed in this AFM. One is the method by the integration, and the other is the method by inverse function of the calibration curve. The in situ self-calibration method by the integration, the derivative of the calibration curve function of the PZT actuator is calculated from the profile measurement data sets which are obtained by repeating measurements after a small Z-directional shift. Input displacement at each sampling point is approximately estimated first by using a straight calibration line. The derivative is integrated with reference to the approximate input to obtain the approximate calibration curve. Then the approximation of the input value of each sampling point is improved using the obtained calibration curve. Next the integral of the derivative is improved using the newly estimated input values. As a result of repeating these improving process, the calibration curve converges to the correct one, and the distortion of the AFM image can be corrected. In the in situ self-calibration through evaluating the inverse function of the calibration curve, the profile measurement data sets were used during the data processing technique. Principles and experimental results of the two methods are presented.
Magnetometer calibration must be performed before the use of three-axis magnetometers to ensure the accuracy of orientation estimation. Recently, one of the most popular calibration approaches is the ellipsoid fitting technique due to its high performance in calibration. To date, in fact, performances of the existing ellipsoid fitting methods have been evaluated with full range rotation data. However, in case of the calibration of magnetometers attached to vehicles, ships, and planes, it is very difficult to collect the full range rotation data since their allowable ranges in terms of roll and pitch are limited to small. This constraint may result in serious performance degradation of some ellipsoid fitting algorithms. Therefore, to be practical, this paper proposes a weighted least square-based magnetometer calibration method that is robust in roll-pitch limited conditions. Furthermore, the proposed method is a linear approach and thus is free from the well-known initial value issue in nonlinear approaches. Experimental results show the superiority of the proposed method to other ellipsoid-fitting calibration methods.

The typical method for performing an absolute radiometric calibration of a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) System is to analyze its response, without interference, to a target with a known Radar Cross Section (RCS). To minimize interference, an error-free calibration site for a Corner Reflector (CR) is required on a wide and flat plain or on an area without disturbance sources (such as ground objects). However, in reality, due to expense and lack of availability for long periods, it is difficult to identify such a site. An alternative solution is the use of a Triangular Trihedral Corner Reflector (TTCR) site, with a surrounding protection wall consisting of berms and a hollow. It is possible in this scenario, to create the minimum criteria for an effectively error-free site involving a conventional object-tip reflection applied to all beams. Sidelobe interference by the berm is considered to be the major disturbance factor. Total interference, including an object-tip reflection and a sidelobe interference, is analyzed experimentally with SAR images. The results provide a new guideline for the minimum criteria of TTCR site design that require, at least, the removal of all ground objects within the fifth sidelobe.

Measurement uncertainty assessment is very important in measurement and calibration. RRL provides antenna calibration services for EMI test. Reliability of EMI test depends on accurate antenna calibration. Antenna calibration results have to be accompanied with measurement uncertainty for its better reliability. In the late of 2005, CISPR issued the CISPR/A/644/C which describes the antenna calibration and measurement uncertainty. In this paper, on the basis of CISPR/A/644/C, we provide the measurement uncertainty values for dipole antenna calibration at the Calibration Test Site(CALTS) of Icheon. The antenna calibration method is 3-antenna height-scanning-averaging method, which measures the free-space antenna factor. We also considered all uncertainty sources that can affect measurement results during calibration.

There are several antenna calibration methods, so-called 3-Antenna Method, Standard Site Method, and Standard Antenna Method which measure the antenna gains or antenna factors. These methods yield the free space or quasi free space antenna gains in only the frequency domain. In this paper, an antenna calibration method using the time domain in the open area test site is discussed. The reflected waves due to the ground are traced in the time domain. After they are removed by the time gating function of network analyzer, the free space transmission coefficient $S_{21}$ is extracted. Such a way is applied to the broad band horn antenna ranging 1 GHz to 18 GHz, and the free space gains are obtained by Friis transmission equation. The method is checked by Standard Site Method in open area test site. The results show comparatively good agreement except for 18 GHz.
The calibration of 1 inch standard condenser microphone is done by the reciprocity calibration method. There are two kinds of reciprocity calibration, free-field calibration and pressure calibration. The pressure sensitivities of the three 1 inch condenser microphones are determined by pressure calibration. The accuracy of the pressure sensitivity of the microphone depends on the accuracies of the voltage and dimension measurements as well as the various corrections for the coupler. If the individual accuracies for the measurements and corrections are achieved, it is estimated that the over-all accuracy is approximately 0.05dB at low and middle frequencies decreasing to about 0.ldB over 10kHz.

For measurements and analysis of dielectric characteristics of planar slabs of microwave absorbing materials, I have applied a free-space method in the frequency range of 8~14 GHz. The measurement system for free-space method consists of transmit and receive antennas, mode transitions, precision coaxal cables, the network analyzer, and a computer Special Spot-focused horn lens antenna was used to eliminate diffraction effects. Diffraction effects at the edges of the sample are minimized by satisfying the condition for minimum transverse dimension of the plate and the beamwidth of the antennas at the focus. The time-domain gating feature of the network analyzer and the thru, reflect, and line(TRL) calibration technique were used to eliminate the effects of undesirable multiple reflections. The complex coefficients of reflection and transmission, $S_{11}$ and $S_{21}$, of planar samples were measured for standard materials such as Teflon, Rexolite$\textregistered$ 2200. The results were compared with existing measurement method. And I applied a free-space method for measurement to measure dielectric constants of some electromagnetic absorbing materials. Dielectric properties for the same samples were also measured with a 7mm coxial transmission line method for purposes of comparison with the free-space method.

In remote gaze tracking system using infra-red LEDs, calibrating the position of reflected light is essential for computing pupil position in captured images. However, there are limitations in reducing errors because variable locations of head and unknown radius of cornea are involved in the calibration process as constants. This study purposes a gaze tracking method based on pupil-corneal reflection that does not require user-calibration. Our goal is to eliminate the correction process of glint positions, which require a prior calibration, so that the gaze calculation is simplified.
