  • Tin monosulfide (SnS) is one promising candidate absorber material which replace the current technology based on cadmium telluride (CdTe) and copper indium gallium sulfide selenide (CIGS) for its suitable optical band gap, high absorption coefficient, earth-abundant, non-toxic and cost-effective. During past years work, thin film solar cells based on SnS films had been improved to 4.36% certified efficiency. In this study, Tin monosul fide was obtained by atomic layer deposition (ALD) using the reaction of Tetrakis (dimethylamino) tin (TDMASn, [(CH3)2N]4Sn) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) at low temperatures (100 to 200 oC). The direct optical band gap and strong optical absorption of SnS films were observed throughout the Ultraviolet visible spectroscopy (UV VIS), and the properties of SnS films were analyzed by sanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD).

  • Mixed crystal powders based on Cd,Fe, and S have been synthesized by varying the ratio of CdS and $FeS_2in$ order to find a suitable material usefuI for the effectivc conversion of solar energy. Hydrogen gas was evolved only with CdS/Ptby photocatal ytic reaction under white light in an aqueous 1 M sodiumsulfite solution. From electrochemical studies of semiconductor electrodes. itwas shown that the onset potential shifted to the positive direction and that the bandgap energy also decreased as the molar ratio of Fe increased. A hydrogen evolution mechanism in terms of the conduction band potential and hydrogen evolution potential is proposed.

  • Cadmium sulfide (CdS) thin film for flexible optical device applications were prepared at $H_2/(Ar+H_2)$ flow ratios on polyethersulfon (PES) flexible polymer substrates at room temperature by radio frequency magnetron sputtering technique. The CdS thin films deposited at room temperature showed a (002) preferred orientation and the smooth surface morphologies. Films deposited at a hydrogen flow ratio of 25% exhibited a photo- and dark-sheet resistance of about 50 and $2.7\;{\times}\;10^5\;{\Omega}/square$, respectively. From the result of the bending test, CdS films exhibit a strong adhesion with the PES polymer substrates and the $Al_2O_3$ passivation layer deposited on the CdS films only shows an increase of the resistance of 8.4% after exposure for 120 h in air atmosphere.

  • The research is the structural and optical characteristics of the Cadmium Sulfide(CdS) film, nanowires and nanobelts grown on the $Al_2O_3$ substrate using the vapor phase epitaxy method. The field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM) were used to identify the shape of the surface of the nanostructures and x-ray diffraction(XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to evaluate the structural characterisitcs. As a result, the XRD was confirmed the CdS peak and the substrate peak and TEM showed single crystals with wurtzite hexagonal structure on the nanostructures. As for the optical characteristic of the nanostructures, photoluminescence(PL) and micro-raman spectrum were measured. The PL measurements confirmed the emission peak related bound exciton to neutral donor($D^0X$) peak and free exciton(FX) peak. The micro-raman spectrum showed that the peak of the nanostructures were similar to the pure crystalline CdS peak and each peak were overtone of LO phonon of the hexagonal CdS of the longitudinal optical(LO) phonon mode. Therefore, it is confirmed that the CdS nanostructures grown in this research have superior crystallinity.

  • Cadmium sulfide is commonly used as the window material for thin film solar cells, and can be prepared by several techniques such as sputtering, spray pyrolysis, close spaced sublimation (CSS), thermal evaporation, solution growth methods, etc. In this study, CdS films were deposited by thermal evaporation, close spaced sublimation, and solution growth methods, respectively, and the effects of the methods on physical properties of polycrystalline CdS deposited on ITO/glass were investigated. Also, the effects of variously prepared CdS thin films on the physical properties of CdTe deposited on the CdS were investigated. The thickness of polycrystalline CdS films was maintained at $0.3\mu\textrm{m}$ except for the solution grown CdS when $0.2\mu\textrm{m}$ thick CdS was deposited. After the deposition, all the samples were annealed at $400^{\circ}C$ or $500^{\circ}C$ in H2 atmosphere. To investigate physical properties of the deposited and annealed CdS thin films, UV-VIS spectro-photometry, X-ray diffractometry (XRD), and Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), and cross sectional transmission electron microscopy(XTEM) were used to analyze grain size, crystal structure, preferred orientation, optical properties, etc. The annealed CdS showed the bandedge transition at 510nm and the optical transmittance high than 80% for all of the variously deposited films. XRD results showed that CdS thin films variously deposited and annealed had the same hexagonal structures, however, showed different preferred orientations. CSS grown CdS had [103] preferred orientation, thermally evaporated CdS had [002], and CdS grown by the solution growth had no preferred orientation. The largest grain size was obtained for the CSS grown CdS while the least grain size was obtained for the solution grown CdS. Some of the physical properties of CdTe deposited on the CdS thin film such as grain size at the junction and grain orientation were affected by the physical properties of CdS thin films.

  • Poly(vinylpyrrolidone) stabilized cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanoparticles were loaded onto the surface of silica ($SiO_2$) nanoparticles by using ${\gamma}$-irradiation. TEM micrograph reveals the presence of ~20nm sized CdS nanoparticles on the surface of $SiO_2$ nanoparticles. XRD patterns confirm the crystalline. PL spectra of the simple PVP-stabilized CdS nanoparticle and $SiO_2$@CdS composite confirm the differences in the emission characteristics between them. Two prominent emission peaks were noted around 550 nm and 600 nm for PVP-stabilized CdS nanoparticles). The emission peaks noted for the PVP-stabilized CdS nanoparticles were found to be blue shifted for $SiO_2$@CdS composites. Besides, an additional emission peak around 450 nm was noticed for the $SiO_2$@CdS composite. The presence of CdS nanoparticles influence the emission characteristics and induce quantum confinement effect.

  • Cadmium sulfide thin films were deposited on glass substrate by Chemical Mist Deposition from solutions containing equimolar (0.1M) cadmium chloride and thiourea [(NH$_2$)$_2$CS] at a mist velocity of 1.6m/sec. Substrate temperatures were ranged between 200$^{\circ}C$ and 400$^{\circ}C$. The microstructure and semiconducting property of the films were investigated using SEM, X-ray diffraction, UV transmittance measurement and four point probe method. All the films have hexagonal structure and diffraction patterns indicate that the intensity of (112) and (101) reflections increase with increasing substrate temperature, whereas (002) reflection substrate temperature, whereas(002) reflection decrease for substrate temperatures between 250$^{\circ}C$ and 350$^{\circ}C$. The films prepared at lower temperature have a significant number of pinholes due probably to entrapped gaseous reaction. Optical transmittance of the films deposited at 350$^{\circ}C$ was about 75%. Optical bandgap of the films were 2.43eV regardless of substrate temperature. The dark resistivity of the films decreased with increasing substrate temperature up to 300$^{\circ}C$ and increased with further increasing substrate temperature. The films were photosensitive and had dark-to-light resistivity ratios of about 10 at room temperature for a white-light photoexcitation intensity of 50mw/$\textrm{cm}^2$.

  • In the past few years, the deposition and characterization of cadmium sulfide semiconducting thin films has received a considerable amount of interest due to their potential application in the area of electronic and opto-electronic devices fabrications. Polycrystalline CdS thin films posses good optical transmittance, wide band-gap and electrical properties makes it as one of the ideal material for their application to solar cell fabrication. Cadmium sulfate thin films were deposited by the chemical bath deposition method using tartaric acid and triethanolamine as a complexing agent. Deposition parameters such as pH, temperature, deposition time and concentration of the reactant species were optimized so as to obtain reflecting, good adherent uniform thin films on the glass substrate. Reaction mechanism of the thin film formation is also reported. The crystallographic structure and the crystallite size were studied by the X-ray diffraction pattern. The optical band-gap of deposited film is identified by measuring the transmittance in the visible region. Temperature dependence of resistivity confirmed the semiconducting behavior of the film. Scanning electron micrographs (SEM) showed the presence of grain particles of size 50 nm.

  • We measured, using femtosecond pump-probe experiment, the time evolution of transient absorption in aqueous CdS colloids. The signal rises within the time resolution (= 0.5 ps) of the experiment and decays with two exponential time constants, 4.8 ps and 132 ps. The ultrafast rise of the transient absorption is considered to be for shallowly trapped conduction band electrons after photoexcitation. The amplitude ratio of the two decaying components varies with the pump intensity and the decay times increase in the presence of hole scavengers. Even though a biexponential function fits the decay well, we object hat two independent first order processes (geminate and nongeminate recombinations) are responsible for the decay. A function with an integrated rate equation for second order nongeminate recombination plus a long background fits the decay well. The long background is considered to be for deeply trapped charges at the CdS particle.
