  • Oil and gas contribute significantly to achieving the growing demand for energy, which is rising in parallel with population growth. The pipeline system is the main transport system used in the distribution of oil and gas because the pipeline system is considered the most effective and efficient system. The distribution system for gas and oil must guarantee security and safety. Analyzing the pipeline is necessary to ensure distribution security and safety. In this study, a finite element analysis of the gas pipeline specimen was conducted. This analysis is carried out in two stages, first structural analysis and continued with damage analysis, where the damage used is a dent. In the dent analysis, environmental conditions are applied, namely non-pressure, pressure, and full pressure. Then assessed all the results of the analysis of each stage, the assessment was carried out by verifying the results of the analysis with the applicable standard rules. So that the characteristics of the pipeline can be recognized and work accidents caused by operating pipeline failure can be avoided.

  • In this paper, EPR (ethylene propylene rubber) insulation material was accelerated degradation test at $121^{\circ}C$, $136^{\circ}C$, $151^{\circ}C$, and experiment the typical EAB (elongation at break) at mechanical characteristics analysis. It is shown that the failure-time at the point of 50% of the initial value of Elongation rate to obtain the activation energy. The failure-time was shown each 5,219 hr, 3,165 hr, and 668 hr at three temperatures. In order to derive the activation energy, Arrhenius methodology was applied. Also, we got the Arrhenius plot from three accelerated temperatures. The activation energy values got 0.98 eV from EAB test. The experimental data were evaluated for estimating the probability density, and the suitable distribution by using statistical program MINITAB. It is shown that EAB data by the acceleration thermal degradation is most suitable for the Weibull distribution.

  • The goal of this study is to implement a communication system that can monitor the status of the nacelle using the power cable itself, without the dedicated communication lines such as an UTP cable and optical fiber for the offshore wind turbine. An inductive coupling powerline communication system for a MW class offshore wind turbine was proposed and its communication performance was demonstrated. The inductive couplers was designed for operation at up to 500 A using a ferrite composite materials. Field test was carried out on the wind farms of Jeju island. Using the iperf communication test program, we have obtained more than 15 Mbps data transmission rate through the 100 m power cable that was installed between the nacelle and the bottom of the power converter. In the data transmission stability test for a week, there was no failure ever. The minimum transmission rate was 15 Mbps and the average data rate was about 20 Mbps. Next, we have installed an infrared camera inside the nacelle in order to measure the temperature distribution and variation of the nacelle. The real-time thermal image taken by the camera was successfully sent to the monitoring system without error.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for the safety assessment of a water purifier when water leaks due to inappropriate maintenance and the examination of the cause of accidents related to the leak. Due to its inspection and management by non-specialists, if a leak occurs in a water purifier with the water level controller being inclined, it may result in the failure of the compressor, power supply line, PCB, etc. The analysis of the thermal diffusion pattern of water purifier compressors using a thermal image camera shows that its maximum temperature was approximately $80^{\circ}C$. In addition, its operating current was a maximum of 13 A and the system's operating current was approximately 1.7 A after the compressor was charged. It was found that the housing type power cable cover of the compressor had the effect of preventing electric shock but has poor flame resistance. Furthermore, the performance of the overload protector, PTC relays, etc., was excellent but they have potential for problems as metallic terminals were exposed, resulting in the potential of a safety related accident. The terminals and their surface damaged by the tracking showed a trace of carbonization and the resistance between terminals was measured to be approximately $8{\Omega}$. In addition, while the tracking was proceeding, the fuse and circuit breaker installed for system protection did not operate.

  • In order to evaluate the seismic performance of the modular expansion joint known for its large expansion allowance and remarkable durability, this study conducts seismic response analysis and seismic simulation test. The bridge selected for the seismic response analysis is a cable stayed bridge with main span length of 1,000m. Three artificial earthquake were generated with respect to the design response spectra of the Korean Standards (KS), AASHTO LRFD and Eurocode, and applied to the selected bridge. The seismic simulation tests reproduced the artificial earthquakes using dynamic hydraulic actuators in the longitudinal and transverse directions. The test results verified the durability and safety of the expansion joint in view of its seismic behavior since abnormal behavior or failure of the expansion joint was not observed when the artificial earthquake waves were applied in the longitudinal direction, transverse direction and both directions.

  • For higher reliability against component failures in railroad trains with many electronic sensors and actuators, a distributed control system with which all electronic components are connected via a network is being considered. This paper compares and analyzes various topologies of Ethernet network for a railroad train in the aspects of (1) failure recovery, (2) the number of ports per device, (3) the number of cable connections between vehicles, and (4) performance. Especially, the unique characteristic of a train system that the number of vehicles changes is considered through analysis. Various combinations of in- and inter-vehicle topologies are considered. In addition, we introduce a hybrid of star and daisy-chain topology for inter-vehicle connection when the maximum number of inter-vehicle connections is limited to reduce possible failures of inter-vehicle connections. Simulation results show performance comparison between different topology combinations; the hybrid topology is shown to enhance delay performance even with a highly limited number of inter-vehicle connections.

  • The high-flux advanced neutron application reactor (HANARO) is a research reactor with thermal power of 30 MW applied in various research and development using neutrons generated from uranium fission chain reaction. A degasifier tank is installed in the ancillary facility of HANARO. This facility generates gas pollutants produced owing to internal environmental factors. The degasifier tank is designed to maintain the gas contaminants below acceptable levels and is monitored using an analyzer in the gas sampling panel. If condensate water is generated and flows into the analyzer of the gas sampling panel, corrosion occurs inside the analyzer's measurement chamber, which causes failure. Condensate water is generated because of the temperature difference between the degasifier tank and analyzer when the gas flows into the analyzer. A heating system is installed between the degasifier tank and gas sampling panel to suppress condensate water generation and effectively remove the condensate water inside the system. In this study, we investigated the efficiency of the heating system. In addition, the variations in the pipe temperature and the amount of average condensate water were modeled using a wall condensation model based on the changes in the fluid inlet temperature, outside air temperature, and heating cable-setting temperature.

  • To identify the potential area of gas hydrate in the Ulleung Basin, 2-D and 3-D seismic surveys using R/V Tamhae II were conducted in 2005 and 2006. Seismic survey equipment consisted of navigation system, recording system, streamer cable and air-gun source. For reliable velocity analysis in a deep sea area where water depths are mostly greater than 1,000 m and the target depth is up to about 500 msec interval below the seafloor, 3-km-long streamer and 1,035 $in^3$ tuned air-gun array were used. During the survey, a suite of quality control operations including source signature analysis, 2-D brute stack, RMS noise analysis and FK analysis were performed. The source signature was calculated to verify its conformity to quality specification and the gun dropout test was carried out to examine signature changes due to a single air gun's failure. From the online quality analysis, we could conclude that the overall data quality was very good even though some seismic data were affected by swell noise, parity error, spike noise and current rip noise. Especially, by checking the result of data quality enhancement using FK filtering and missing trace restoration technique for the 3-D seismic data inevitably contaminated with current rip noises, the acquired data were accepted and the field survey could be conducted continuously. Even in survey areas where the acquired data would be unsuitable for quality specification, the marine seismic survey efficiency could be improved by showing the possibility of noise suppression through onboard data processing.
