A high-Tc superconducting cable(HTS cable) is expected as an underground power line supplying the electrical power the densely populated city in future. The electrical insulation is very important for develop HTS cable system because it is operated a high voltage and in cryogenic temperature. We manufactured a mini-model cable and measured a tan$\delta$ of cable using schering bridge. The tan$\delta$ of PPLP was lower than that of Tyvek and Kraft at a given temperature, the tan$\delta$ of PPLP was 1.16${\times}$10-3. According to the increase of electric stress the tan$\delta$ increased because partial discharge occurred inside butt gap of mini-model cable. However, the tan$\delta$ decreased by increase of liquid nitrogen pressure. This reason is thought by decrease of part discharge between butt gap by increase of liquid nitrogen pressure.
Optimization in distribution of stay cable forces is one of the most difficult aspects in the design of cable-stayed bridges. This article attempts to examine tension force influence on structural behavior of cable-stayed bridges. For the examination, finite element modeling using nonlinear static and nonlinear modal analyses was completed and compared to structural experimental results. Variables analyzed in this parametric study were: 1) Number of stay cables; 2) Tension of the stay cables, and 3) Stay cable pattern - harp and semi-fan patterns. Though the findings from the analysis are limited to the tested models, the study gives insight on the structural behavior of actual cable stayed bridges.

For bridge-vehicle interaction analysis of cable-supported brides, the superposition method is applied based on the results of 3-dimensional free vibration analysis using General-purpose FEM Software. This study firstly performs the eigenvalue analysis for the free vertical and the torsional vibration of bridges using FEM analysis. Next the equations of motion considering interaction between bridges and vehicles/train are derived from mode superposition method. And then dynamic analysis is performed using the Newmark numericial method. Finally through the numerical examples, the dynamic responses of cable-supported bridges by this study are presented and discussed.
This paper presents an explicit analytical iteration method for form-finding analysis of suspension bridges. By extending the conventional analytical form-finding method predicated on the elastic catenary theory, two nonlinear governing equations are derived for calculating the accurate unstrained lengths of the entire cable systems both the main cable and the hangers. And for the gradient-based iteration method, the derivation of explicit calculation for the Jacobian matrix while solving the nonlinear governing equation enhances the computational efficiency. The results from sensitivity analysis show well performance of the explicit Jacobian matrix compared with the traditional finite difference method. According to two numerical examples of long span suspension bridges studied, the proposed method is also compared with those reported approaches or the fundamental criterions in suspension bridge structural analysis, which eventually confirms the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed approach.
Most codes of practice state that for large in-plane structures it is necessary to account for the spatial variability of earthquake ground motion. There are essentially three effects that contribute for this variation: (i) wave passage effect, due to finite propagation velocity; (ii) incoherence effect, due to differences in superposition of waves; and (iii) the local site amplification due to spatial variation in geological conditions. This paper discusses the procedures to be undertaken in the time domain analysis of a cable-stayed bridge under spatial variability of earthquake ground motion. The artificial synthesis of correlated displacements series that simulate the earthquake load is discussed first. Next, it is described the 3D model of the International Guadiana Bridge used for running tests with seismic analysis. A comparison of the effects produced by seismic waves with different apparent propagation velocities and different geological conditions is undertaken. The results in this study show that the differences between the analysis with and without spatial variability of earthquake ground motion can be important for some displacements and internal forces, especially those influenced by symmetric modes.
In this paper a study about concrete arch bridges built by lattice cantilevers is presented. Lattice cantilevers are partial structures composed of deck, arch, piers and provisional steel diagonals, organized as reticular cantilever girders, in order to build arch bridges without the use of centrings, supports or temporary towers. Characteristics of this construction methodology with its variants are explained together with their implications in the erection sequence. Partial elastic scheme method is implemented in order to find initial forces of temporary cables and a forward analysis is carried out to follow the actual sequence of construction, by extending a procedure already applied to concrete cable-stayed bridges and to arches built by the classical suspended cantilever method. A numerical application on a case-study of a concrete arch bridge is performed together with a comparison between different methodologies followed for its construction sequence. Differences between erection by lattice cantilevers and cable-stayed cantilevers, are discussed. Results can be useful for designers in conceptual design of concrete arch bridges.

In this study, the program which determine the initial cable tension force by tile initial shape analysis for cable stayed bridge is developed. Also, DSFEMP(Dynamic Stochastic Finite Element Analysis Program) is developed to consider the variance of random variables at each step of dynamic response analysis, not use existing methods that apply to the theory of reliability at the final step of structural analysis. In addition, the output from the developed program was compared with the results from DMCSP(Direct Monte Carlo Simulation Program) to prove its validity.
The ambient vibration measurement is an output-data-only dynamic testing where natural excitations are represented, for instance, by winds and typhoons. The modal identification involving output-only measurements requires the use of specific modal identification techniques. This paper presents the application of a reliable method (the Stochastic Subspace Identification - SSI) implemented in a general purpose software. As a criterion toward the robustness of identified modes, a bio-inspired optimization algorithm, with a highly nonlinear objective function, is introduced in order to find the optimal deployment of a reduced number of sensors across a large civil engineering structure for the validation of its modal identification. The Ting Kau Bridge (TKB), one of the longest cable-stayed bridges situated in Hong Kong, is chosen as a case study. The results show that the proposed method catches eigenvalues and eigenvectors even for a reduced number of sensors, without any significant loss of accuracy.

This paper presents a hybrid system combining lead rubber bearings and hydraulic actuators controlled by a μ-synthesis method for seismic response control of a cable-stayed bridge. A hybrid system could alleviate some of restrictions and limitations that exist when each system is acting alone because multiple control devices are operating. Therefore, the overall control performance of a hybrid system may be improved compared to each system, however the overall system robustness may be negatively impacted by active device in the hybrid system or active controller may cause instability due to small margins. Therefore, a f-synthesis method that guarantees the robust performance is considered to enhance the possibility of real applications of the control system. The control performances of the proposed control system are compared with those of passive, active, semiactive control systems and hybrid system controlled by LQG algorithm and an extensive robust analysis with respect to stiffness and mass matrices perturbation and time delay of actuator is performed. Numerical simulation results show that the control performance of the proposed control system is superior to that of the passive system and slightly better than that of the active and semiactive systems and two hybrid systems show similar control performances. Furthermore, the hybrid system controlled by a μ-synthesis method shows the good robustness without loss of control performances. Therefore, the proposed control system could effectively be used to seismically excited cable-stayed bridge which contains many uncertainties.

This paper presents the results of the numerical analysis on the behavior of cable-stayed bridge considering geometric nonlinearity of cables. Finite element method is used and geometric nonlinearities are considered on the analysis of cable-stayed bridge. The governing equilibrium equations are derived by the principle of virtual work, and modified Newton-Raphson method and Newmark-${\beta}$ method are employed in response calculations. The validity of this study is demonstrated by comparing the examples with analytical results by other method and testing results.
