In this study, the failure behavior of composite material in the biaxial and off-axis loading is studied based on a computational micromechanical model. The model is developed so that the combination of mechanical and thermal loading conditions can be considered in the analysis. The modified generalized plane strain assumption of the theory of elasticity is used for formulation of the micromechanical modeling of the problem. A truly meshless method is employed to solve the governing equation and predict the distribution of micro-stresses in the selected RVE of composite. The fiber matrix interface is assumed to be perfect until the interface failure occurs. The biaxial and off-axis loading of the SiC/Ti and Kevlar/Epoxy composite is studied. The failure envelopes of SiC/Ti and Kevlar/Epoxy composite in off-axis loading, biaxial transverse-transverse and axial-transverse loading are predicted based on the micromechanical approach. Various failure criteria are considered for fiber, matrix and fiber-matrix interface. Comparison of results with the available results in the litreture shows excellent agreement with experimental studies.
This study introduces the testing results of the composite carbody which is applied to tilting train. The composite carbody is made of aluminum honeycomb structure materials like a sandwich. The static load test was performed to evaluate the structural characteristic and stability of the composite carbody. Considering the vertical, compressive, twisting load and 3-point supporting type as a testing terms, the structural stability of a carbody was evaluated.
In this paper the fabrication and application of Composite-Thermistor were studied. Composite-Thermistor specimens were made by conventional process. Some compounds of vanadium oxides and semiconductor oxides as a fillers were used to fabricate Composite-Thermistor, and Epoxy Resins are used as a polymer matrix. The results of resistivity-temperature characteristics were measured in the range from -100 ($^{\circ}C$) to 200($^{\circ}C$). The harder polymer, Eccogel series #1365-80 and Spurr Epoxy are more preferable compared to the Eccogel (1365-45) with some fillers.
Al2O3-20 wt% ZrO2 composite powders to be used as the starting materials of the Al2O3/ZrO2-Spinel composite system were prepared by the use of the emulsion-hot kerosene drying method. The crystalline phase of ZrO2 in the synthesized Al2O3-ZrO2 composite powders was 100% tetragonal but the small amount of t-ZrO2 was transformed into m-ZrO2 after crushing. The hardness, fracture toughness, and flexural strength of the composite, which was sintered at 1650$^{\circ}C$ for 4 hrs after calcining at 1100$^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs and had the relative density of 99%, were 15.7 GPa, 4.97 MN/m3/2, and 390 MPa, respectively. The fracture form in the sintered composites was found to be the intergranular fracture.
Carbon/Carbon composite was been manufactured by the technology of warmer-molding process of clutter chopped carbon fiber, using phenolic resin as an adhesive. The degree of graphitization, the microstructure and the friction properties were studied. The results show that the clutter chopped carbon fiber fully scatter in the Carbon/Carbon composite and the degree of graphitization of phenolic resin can reach up to 86.2%, this matrix carbon can form the continuous and stable graphitic thin film on the friction surface during braking process so that the composite has fine friction properties and low wear rate.
During the last years hollow core insulators started their success story in the field of high voltage engineering for electrical apparatus, substituting porcelain insulators. The termination, also named top and bottom fittings are used for the connection to the rest of the electrical apparatus. The top and bottom flange are attached to the composite to transmit mechanical load and also ensure the gas tightness. They are bonded by epoxy glue with a glass transition temperature of about $130^{\circ}C$-$150^{\circ}C$ the glass reinforced epoxy tube of filament winding. This paper describes the results of a study on the bonded joints of fiber reinforced epoxy tube and cast aluminum. This suggests that surface roughness and glue types play an important role in evaluating of gas sealing capability on the flange and fiber reinforced epoxy tube in the composite hollow bushing.
The creep behavior of newly developed composite geogrids which consists of PET yarns sheathed in PP were evaluated using SIM. For the SIM procedure, three test parameters, the applied loads, temperature steps and number of ribs were investigated, The study confirmed that temperature steps of 10 and 14$^{\circ}C$ up to 80$^{\circ}C$ are applicable for composite geogrids due to the different transition temperatures between two materials. At applied loads of 40 and 50%, only primary creep state was measured, while secondary creep state appeared at the applied loads of 60%, The lifetimes of composite geogrids were estimated at each of loading level using statistical reliability analysis technique. The results show that the lifetimes longer than 100 years can be predicted within 16 hours. Therefore, SIM is very effective and economical accelerated creep test methods, especially for lifetime prediction. This gives guidelines for users to select the appropriate factor of safety against creep considering the field condition within shorter test times.
In this experimentation, we investigated the characteristics of electromagnetic wave absorption of ferroxplana powder and silicone rubber composite. Ferroxplana was prepared by flux method at low temperature. The crystallization, magnetic properties and particle morphology of the obtained ferroxplana powder were investigated by using XRD, VSM and SEM. The particle size of ferroxplana powder was 2∼4$\mu\textrm{m}$ at the ratio of R=26, The coercivity and saturation magnetization of ferroxplana powder increased slightly with increase of temperature, The magnetic loss was the main factor of electromagnetic wave absorption of ferroxplana powder and silicone rubber composite, The maximum reflection loss of composite was about -l5dB below 4GHz.
Polymeric positive temperature coefficient(PTC) composites have been prepared by incorporating carbon black(CB) into high density polyethylene(HDPE), polyphenylene sulfide(PPS) and polybutylene terephthalate(PBT) matrices. A PTC effect was observed in the composite, caused by the large thermal expansion due to He consecutive melting of HDPE, PPS and PBT crystallites. This theory is based upon the premise that the PTC phenomenon is due to a critical separation distance between carbon particles in the polymer matrix at the higher temperature. The influence of PTC characteristics of the PPS/CB composite can be explained by DSC result. HDPE, one of prepared composition, exhibit the higher performance PTC behavior that decreaseing of negative temperature coefficient(NTC) effect and improved reproducibility by chemically crosslinking. Also, PBT/CB and PPS/CB composites exhibit the higher PTC peack temperature than HDPE/CB PTC composite, individually $200^{\circ}C$ and $230^{\circ}C$. These PTC composite put to good use in a number of safety application, such as self$.$controlled heater, over-current protectors, auto resettable switch, high temperature proctection sensor, etc.
An equivalent single-layer theory (EST) is put forward for analyzing free vibrations of steel-concrete composite beams (SCCB) based on a higher-order beam theory. In the EST, the effect of partial interaction between sub-beams and the transverse shear deformation are taken into account. After using the interlaminar shear force continuity condition and the shear stress free conditions at the top and bottom surface, the displacement function of the EST does not contain the first derivatives of transverse displacement. Therefore, the C0 interpolation functions are just demanded during its finite element implementation. Finally, the EST is validated by comparing the results of two simply-supported steel-concrete composite beams which are tested in laboratory and calculated by ANSYS software. Then, the influencing factors for free vibrations of SCCB are analyzed, such as, different boundary conditions, depth to span ratio, high-order shear terms, and interfacial shear connector stiffness.
