  • Touchscreen is now installed in the majority of information devices thanks to the developed digital technology. In case of copiers, although touchscreen was installed earlier than any other information device, current user interface indicates that conventional methods have been maintained without any special re-validation. But, since common office devices such as copiers have brief usage time and clear, straightforward purposes, user experience between an user and device is perhaps an important element. Nevertheless, conservativeness of the market and the fact that users and buyers are not always the same are a stumbling block to actively changing UI. Recently, however, as hardware element, buttons, have moved to touchscreen mostly for smartphone, and common and public devices have seen rapid changes in UX, mostly with touchscreen, it has led to high demand for changes in UX of copiers. To remedy the issues with copiers, a literature review was conducted through existing studies and user evaluation based on user survey and prototype was done to examine the copier's UI elements and relevant changes in usage. In particular, a new direction for UX of copiers was suggested by analyzing the impact of differences between software button-oriented UI and hardware button-oriented UI on users and usability. This study findings could be used as basic data for improving the usability of future common devices including copier and UX design.

  • This study was conducted to test the significance of differences in the tactual difference thresholds and perception time for tactual direction type and finger type and radius size based on small circular button. The results show that difference threshold of vertical tactual perception is significantly greater than horizontal perception, but there are no significant differences in difference thresholds among finger types and radius sizes. Also, there are no significant differences in tactual perception time among tactual direction types, finger types, and radius types. These findings are applicable for tactual user interface design.

  • There are not a few cases which we can handle more safely and conveniently in using the general goods if a haptic clue is offered to a user as a basis of an important judgment. The first purpose of this study is to embody how to study to understand the haptic discrimination element of the handling button in electronic product which can work as the essential elements in the product design and the physical interface. And the next purpose is to investigate basically the way of the adequate usage. We analyzed the basic materials through this study on the documents and planned the experiments with the analyses. We carried out planned experiments, analyzed, and integrated the experimental results. This means making the standard objectively in developing the shape which is an important element of the product design. And it also means the developing and extracting the way of objective information of the haptic intended.

  • In an apartment or private building, it is difficult for the user to operate the elevator button in a similar situation with luggage in both hands. In an environment where human contact must be minimized due to a highly infectious virus such as COVID-19, it is inevitable to operate an elevator based on untact. This paper proposes an operating system capable of operating the elevator by using the user's voice and image processing through the user's face without pressing the elevator button. The elevator can be operated to a designated floor without pressing a button by detecting the face of a person entering the elevator by detecting the person's face from the camera installed in the elevator, matching the information registered in advance. When it is difficult to recognize a person's face, it is intended to enhance the convenience of elevator use in an untouched environment by controlling the floor of the elevator using the user's voice through a microphone and automatically recording access information.

  • Design factors are very important and deterministic in determining the first impression of products and environment. The final 30 number of channel button were chosen as a design factors at the Audio Unit. Then, we made the 8 types of prototype. with combining the design factors for experiment. Subjects rated the SD(Semantic Differential) evaluation sheets which have the 30 adjectives after watching each prototype. With the evaluated values, we simulated to identify the relation between the design factors and the adjectives using Neural Network. As a results, we could abstract the affective adjectives on each 8 types. Therefore, this research suggested the possibilities that we can infer the optimal design factors and types using Neural Network, if adjectives were given.

  • This study investigated the clothing constructional characteristics of contemporary folk Jogori design retailed at the market. This study focussed on comparison of style variation between contemporary Jogori and traditional Jogori. The data were collected from five top contemporary folk dress makers's 997-1998 fall-winter collection. The results of this study were as following. 1) The traditional folk clothing constructional elements remained most among the con- temporary Jogori design were center back seam(Deung-Sol) and attached front bodice extensi on(Sup). Neckline shaping(Geet) and neckline binding(Dong-Jeong) were also observed frequently. 2) The most obvious changes from the traditional Jogori design were elimination of the ribbon fastener in front, adaptation of various neckline shaping used in the Yi dynasty, and lengthened garment length. 3) The western garment construction techniques applied to the contemporary Jogori design were use o( pocket and button closure. The center front extension was replaced with attached front bodice extension(Sup) for a few Jogori design.

  • Many studies on safety issues of human-machine interaction are being conducted, especially taking emergency situations into consideration. In light of this view, the importance of objective and reliable measurement of users' reactions under emergency situations is becoming more important than ever in reflecting such issues in the design of everyday things. However, despite the need to consider the human-machine interactions and human performances at the design stage, there were few studies which considered human performances and behaviors under emergency situations. This study is about an evaluation method and design guide to include such human performances under emergency situations during human-machine interactions. This is achieved through an experiment where operators are instructed to press the emergency button at an experimentally designed location under a random emergency situation. By analyzing the results in a human factors perspective, the response time and the accuracy of the operators' behaviors are explained. Analysis revealed that in designing the center fascia for automobiles, there is a tradeoff between response time and accuracy, and the optimal size of buttons differ in each part of the center fascia. This method is expected to be applicable to industrial situations to derive optimal position for emergency buttons.

  • Under the penetration of smartphones equipped with a variety of features grows globally, the efficient using of a variety of functions of smartphones has been increased. In accordance with this trend, a lot of researches on the remote control method using the smart phone for consumer products in home networks. Input methods of the current smpartphoes are typically button-based inputs through touching. The button input methods are inconvenient for people who are not familiar touch. Therefore, the researches on the different input schemes to replace the touch methods are required. In this paper, we propose a gesture based input method to replace the touch-sensitive input that of the existing smartphone applications, and a way to apply it to home networks. The proposed method uses three-axis acceleration sensor which is built into smatphones, and it also defines six kinds of gestures patterns that may be applied to home network systems by measuring the recognition rates.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand what we need to know about Microsoft's powerful web browser control so that we will be able to code and create a special-purpose browser. For this purpose, first of all, some literature survey was undertaken to study how the web browser looks like and is operated. One case design and coding was devoted to using visual basic to create our own web browser. The primary task of this job was accomplished with the form making up of a bunch of image controls, a status bar on the button, a picture box to contain the image buttons, the combo box, the command button and the menus and the statements shown in the above exhibits and tables respectively. After putting it all together, the form was implemented to see if it would work properly. The program was also enhanced to have a special purpose functions permitting filtering functions. The result was more or less successful, however has some limitations such as the simplicity of the programming structures and functions. However, this study is useful for understanding general outline of special-purpose web browser development.

  • A tile type active T/R(Transmit/Receive) module for X-band active array radar is demonstrated in this paper. Proposed tile type structure based on fuzz button solderless vertical interconnection shows wide band characteristic of about 30 % bandwidth in X-band with insertion loss of below 0.6 dB and input and output VSWR of less than 1.7. Moreover, the mismatching generally appeared in the vertical interconnection which shown wide band characteristic can also be minimized and, therefore, good gain flatness can be achieved.
