This paper is concerned with spring back after sheet forming of bulk amorphous alloys in the super cooled liquid state. The temperature-dependence and strain-rate dependence of Newtonian/non-Newtonian viscosities as well as the stress overshoot/undershoot behavior of amorphous alloys are reflected in the thermo-mechanical Finite Element simulations. Hemispherical deep drawing operations are simulated for various forming conditions such as punch velocity, die corner radius, friction, blank holder force, clearance and initial forming temperature. Here, spring back by an instantaneous elastic unloading was followed by thermal deformation during cooling and two modes of spring backs are examined in detail. It could be concluded that the superior sheet formability of an amorphous alloy can be obtained by taking the proper forming conditions for loading/unloading.

Multicomponent $Zr_{41.2}Ti_{13.8}Cu_{12.5}Ni_{10}Be_{22.5}$ bulk matallic glass alloy shows good bulk glass forming ability due to its high resistance to crystallization in the undercooled liquid state.1) In this study, DSC and X-ray diffractometry have been performed to confirm the amorphous structure of the master $Zr_{41.2}Ti_{13.8}Cu_{12.5}Ni_{10}Be_{22.5}$ alloy. To investigate the mechanical properties and deformation behaviors of the bulk metallic $Zr_{41.2}Ti_{13.8}Cu_{12.5}Ni_{10}Be_{22.5}$ alloy, a series of compression tests has been carried out at the temperatures ranging from $351^{\circ}C$ to $461^{\circ}C$ and at the various initial strain rates from $2{\times}10^{-4}s^{-1}\;to\;2{\times}10^{-2}s^{-1}$. There are two types of nominal stress-strain curves. The one shows linear stress-strain relationship meaning fracture at maximum stress, the other shows plastic deformation including steady-state flow. Also DSC analysis for the compressed specimens has been performed to investigate the change of thermal stability and crystallization behavior for the various test conditions.

Formation of an icosahedral phase in the bulk glass forming $Ti_{40}Zr_{29}Be_{14}Cu_9Ni_8$ alloy during crystallization from amorphous phase and solidification from melt is investigated. The icosahedral phase with a size of 10 to 15 nm forms as a thermodynamically stable phase at intermediate temperature during the transformation from amorphous to crystalline phases such as Laves and ${\beta}$-(Ti-Zr) phases, indicating that the existence of the icosahedral cluster in the undercooled liquid. On the other hand, the icosahedral phase forms as a primary solidification phase even though the Laves phase is stable at high temperature, which is can be explained based on the high nucleation rate of icosahedral phase relative to that of competing crystalline Laves phase due to lower interfacial energy between icosahedral and liquid phases.
It is well known that a multicomponent $Zr_{4l.2}Ti_{13.8}Cu_{12.5}Ni_{10}Be_{22.5}$ bulk metallic glass alloy shows good bulk glass forming ability due to its high resistance to crystallization in the undercooled liquid state. DSC and XRD have been performed to confirm the amorphous structure of the master alloy. To investigate the mechanical properties and deformation behavior of the bulk metallic $Zr_{4l.2}Ti_{13.8}Cu_{12.5}Ni_{10}Be_{22.5}$ alloy, a series of compression tests has been carried out at the temperatures ranging from $351^{\circ}C$ to $461^{\circ}C$at the various initial strain rates from $2{\times}10^4s^1$ to $2{\times}10^2s^1$. Three types of nominal stress-strain curves have been identified such as linear stress-strain relationship meaning fracture at maximum stress, plastic deformation including stress overshoot and steady-state flow, plastic deformation without stress overshoot depending on the strain rate and test temperature. Also DSC analysis for the compressed specimens was carried out to investigate the change of structure, thermal stability and crystallization behavior for the various test conditions.
Bulk amorphous alloys with reasonable glass forming ability and large plasticity were found in Zr-Cu-Al alloys. Further increase in the GFA and the ductility is expected by appropriately choosing a fourth element. In this study, we select Be as the fourth element and added to the Zr-Cu-Al system to synthesize $(Zr_{57.4}Cu_{38.1}Al_{4.5})_{100-x}Be_x$(x=0~16) alloys and the glass forming ability and the plasticity were measured. With Be addition, the supercooled liquid region (${\Delta}T_x$), the plasticity and GFA as high as $134^{\circ}C$, 20.5%, 7 mm, respectively, can be obtained. Herein, we present the effect of Be addition on the variations of various mechanical properties and thermal characteristics of the $(Zr_{57.4}Cu_{38.1}Al_{4.5})_{100-x}Be_x$ alloys.
Crystallization behavior of the bulk metallic glass (BMG) during compression and tension was studied in the supercooled liquid region (SLR). Rod samples of the BMG alloy were produced by consolidating gas atomized powders of $Cu_{54}Zr_{22}Ti_{18}Ni_6$ using spark plasma sintering. The crystallization behavior in these samples was examined by tackling changes in thermal property during heating the samples in DSC. The present BMG alloy was firstly decomposed and then crystallized during annealing in the SLR. The phase decomposition from the original amorphous phase was retarded by the compressive stress, while it was accelerated by the tensile stress.
Weldability is largely dependent on the phase evolution and the microstructure of the weld. For the weldability of the $Cu_{54}Ni_6Zr_{22}Ti_{18}$ bulk metallic glass, the crystallization affects the sensitivity of the weld to the brittle failure. In order to suppress the irreversible crystallization, Nd:YAG laser welding was chosen. The pulsed Nd:YAG laser was irradiated onto the BMG plate and the effects of the pulse shape [peak power intensity and pulse duration time] on the crystallinity were evaluated.
The fracture behaviors of Zr-based bulk amorphous metals(BAMs) having compositions of $Zr_{55}Al_{10}Ni_{5}Cu_{30}$, were investigated under impact loading and quasi-static conditions. For experiments, a newly devised instrumented impact testing apparatus and the subsize Charpy specimens were used. The influences of loading rate and the notch shape on the fracture behavior of the Zr-based BAM were examined. The Zr-based BAMs showed an elastic deformation behavior without any plastic deformation on it before fracture. Most fracture energies were absorbed in the process of the crack initiation. The maximum load and fracture absorbed energy under quasi-static condition were larger than those under impact condition. However, there existed relatively insignificant notch shape effect. Fracture surfaces under impact loading were smoother than those under quasi-static loading. The absorbed fracture energy appeared differently depending on the extent of the vein-like pattern region due to the shear bands developed at the notch tip. It can be found that the fracture energy of the Zr-Al-Ni-Cu alloy is closely related with the development of shear bands during fracture.
