The following conclusions were reached through investigations on the prescriptions that use Bulbus Fritillariae as a key ingredient. All kinds of infection in a cough and the malignant tumor recorded the largest number of clinical frequency of the prescriptions in therapeutic use when Bulbus Fritillariae was taken as a principle medicine. The Prescriptions are compounded with Bulbus Fritillariae as a principle medicine can aplly to respiratory disease, eye disease, nose and ear disease, throat disease, a boil. Various pathogenic factors such as consumptive disease, phlegm, phlegm-fire, invasion by wind, affective by cold, fire, dyspepsia-fire are put to practical use. The dosage of Bulbus Fritillariae is 5 bun (about 1.88g) to 1 lyang(about 37.5g), however 1 jeon(about 3.75g) has been taken the most for clinical application. With examination the formulae of presciptions containing Bulbus Fritillariae, I found the basic prescriptions as well as the medicines are in conjunction with Bulbus Fritillariae and the theoretic grounds of formula in combining Bulbus Fritillariae as a group of medicine for presciption through this reseach.

  • Sleep deprivation is an extremely common event in today's society. It has caused learning cognitive skill deterioration and poor concentration, increased disease such as heart disease, diabetes and obesity, sexual function decrease, infertility increase, depression and autonomic nervous system disorder. Sleep deprivation-induced stress caused NADPH oxidase and oxidative stress. And this oxidative stress induces apoptosis. Lilii bulbus and Nelumbins semen are known to mental and physical relaxation effects. In this study, we induced sleep deprivation(SD) in Sprague-Dawley rats in water for 5 days and thereafter administered orally L. bulbus and N. semen for 5 days. Brain tissues were observed by histochemical, immunohistochemical and tunel staining. The immunoreactives of Tumor necrosis factor ${\alpha}$, Neuronal nitric oxide synthases, Phospho-SAPK/JNK and gp91-phox of the L. bulbus administered group and N. semen administered group were weaker than those of sleep deprivation group. In the L. bulbus administered group and N. semen administered group, apoptosis was decreased than that of sleep deprivation group. Proapoptotic p53, Bax, Cleaved caspase 3 immunoreactives of the administered group were weaker than those of sleep deprivation group, whereas anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 immunoreactity was stronger in the L. bulbus administered group and N. semen administered group. Antioxidant mechanism such as DJ-1, superoxide dismutase 1, Nuclear factor-like 2 immunoreactives of the L. bulbus and N. semen administered group were stronger than those of sleep deprivation group. These results demonstrate that L. bulbus, N. semen had the neuroprotective effects on the sleep deprivation-induced oxidative stress in the hippocampus.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this sutdy was finding out the origin and daily dose of Allii Fistulosi Bulbus in Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases. Methods : In order to estimate the origin and daily dose of Allii Fistulosi Bulbus, I researched the Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases, Synopsis of Prescription of the Golden Chamber, Classified Emergency Materia Medica, Compendium of Materia Medica, and Huangdi's Internal Classic. Results : According to some important herbal textbooks, Allii Fistulosi Bulbus had no seed, was reproduced by rhizome, and its leaves were soft. Chongbaek in Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases did not include word 'raw'. The unit of the dose of it was the number of article. So Allii Fistulosi Bulbus in Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases was not Daepa but Jokpa, and was dried, and was round shaped bulb bigger than bean. The daily dose was 4, 9, 14 articles in Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases and Synopsis of Prescription of the Golden Chamber. These were estimated equal to 1, 2, 3 Ryang. 1 Ryang equals to 6.5 g in Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases, so the daily dose of Allii Fistulosi Bulbus was estimated 6.5 g, 13.0 g, and 19.5 g. I weighed the middle-sized Allii Fistulosi Bulbuses, the result was remarkably consistent with the estimated numerical value. Conclusions : In Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases, Allii Fistulosi Bulbus was dried bulb of Jokpa of Allium fistulosum Linn$\acute{e}$ and the daily dose was 4 or 9 articles, respectively equaled to 1 Ryang, 2 Ryang and 6.5 g, 13 g.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to assume the origin and daily dose of Allii Chinensis Bulbus in Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases and Prescriptions of the Gold Chamber. Methods : I assumed the origin with Book of Materica Medica such as Illustration and Classic of Materia Medica(本草圖經), Illustration and Consideration of Plant's Name and Reality(植物名實圖考), The Korean Herbal Pharmacopoeia Forth Edition, Annotation of Hangeul Treatise of Cold Damages Diseases, and daily dose based on general principle applied on dose of Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases. Results : In Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases and Prescriptions of the Gold Chamber, the original species of Allii Chinensis Bulbus was Allium chinense G. Don. It was to be measured with weight. It was too big to write on size due to it's 10~30mm length and 3~12mm in diameter. And due to irregular size, it can't be written on number, too. Daily dose of Allii Chinensis Bulbus in Whaeyeok-san(回逆散), Gwalluhaebaekbanha-tang(栝樓薤白半夏湯) was 3 Ryang(兩), which was the most common case in Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases. And that in Gwalluhaebaekgyeji-tang(栝樓薤白桂枝湯), Gwalluhaebaekbaekju-tang(栝樓薤白白酒湯) is 8 Ryang(兩), which was the largest dose as dried herb in Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases Conclusions : The original species of Allii Chinensis Bulbus was Allium chinense G. Don. The daily dose of Allii Chinensis Bulbus was 3 Ryang(兩)(19.5g) in Whaeyeok-san and Gwalluhaebaekbanha-tang, and was 8 Ryang(兩)(52g) in Gwalluhaebaekgyeji-tang and Gwalluhaebaekbaekju-tang.

  • Allii sativi Bulbus(garlic) have been shown to possess medicinal value, in particular, antimicrobial activity. In this study, we compared the efficacy on some pathogenic bacteria and fungus among several different extracts(water, hexane, ethyl acetate, methanol, chloroform) of Allii sativi Bulbus. Animal pathogenic bacteria and fungus(S. gallinarium: KCTC 2441, S. flexneri: KCTC 2361, E. cloacae: KCTC 2006, K. pneumonia: KCTC 2208, C. albicans: KCTC 1940) were used to test by measurement of minimum inhibitory concentrations(MIC) and disc diffusion. Allii sativi Bulbus were cut and mixed with water at 37℃ about 24 h and filtered, and several different solvents(hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, methanol) were respectively added to separate the fraction of each solvent. The antimicrobial(bacteriocidal) and antifungal effect were apparently shown from water extract, hexane and ethyl acetate extract against using strains(Staphylococcus gallinarium, Shigella flexneri, Enterobacter doacae, Klebsiella pneumonia, Candida albicans). Especially, the water extract showed the superior efficacy. And the clear zone size of water extract (11~27 mm) was greater than that of gentamycin, hexane extract and ethyl acetate extract against S. gallinarium. S. flexneri, K. pneumonia and C. albicans. Minimum inhibitory concentrations(MIC) of water extract appeared to around 2.0~7.5 ㎎/㎖ against S. gallinarium, S. flexneri, E. cloacae and K. pneumonia. The greater activity was shown by water extract because the MIC of water extract for C. albicans observed in very low concentration(<1.0 ㎎/㎖) compared to hexane(5.0 ㎎/㎖) and ethyl acetate(10.0 ㎎/㎖). Therefore, these results exhibited that water extract of Allii sativi Bulbus have stronger antimicrobial activity than hexane and ethyl acetate extract, and may be useful as topical medicine of superficial infections causing C. albicans as well as antifungal agents.

  • Tyrosinase is a key enzyme to control the biosynthesis of melanin pigments and has two enzyme activities, namely of 1-tyrosine hydroxylase and of 1-dopa oxidase. Thus, tyrosinase is regarded as a target in skin-whitening and therapeutic intervention of local hyperpigmentation diseases. We have tested tyrosinase inhibitory activity on the water extracts of 50 species oriental medicinal plant. Among them, five medicinal plants, Linderae Radix, Clematidis Radix, Cinnamomi Cortex Spissus, Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus and Bulbus Fritillariae Cirrhosae were investigated strong inhibition effect. Five medicinal plants were fractionated using organic solvents (methylene chloride, ethyl acetate, n-butanol, water). Cinnamomi Cortex Spissus (ethyl acetate fraction) was investigated strong inhibition effect. Tyrosinase inhibitory activity below $IC_{50}\;40{\mu}g/ml$ is confirmed in five herbal plants that are Linderae Radix, Clematidis Radix, Cinnamomi Cortex Spissus, Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus and Bulbus Fritillariae Cirrhosae. Tyrosinase inhibitory levels ($IC_{50}\;{\mu}g/ml$) of each plants were 15.56, 35.02, 25.14, 15.20 and 39.77. We also investigate the effect of effective plant's fraction. in dose of $100{\mu}g/ml$, Cinnamomi Cortex Spissus (P-36) EtOAc fraction significant inhibitory effect over 50%. Clematidis Radix (P-35) and Cinnamomi Cortex Spissus (P-36) MC fraction inhibit tyrosinase each 36.60% and 43.21%. inhibitory rates of Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus (P-40) EtOAc and $H_2O$ fraction are 31.40% and 31.51%. Bulbus Fritillariae Cirrhosae (P-45) BuOH fraction regulate tyrosinase activity to 37.71%. We examined tyrosinase inhibitory activity of natural products and these results suggest that several herbs have potential as a new whitening material.
