We introduce a novel and efficient strategy for producing free-standing functional films via photo-crosslinking and electrostatic layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly, which can allow the buildup of hydrophilic multilayers onto hydrophobic surfaces. Hydrophobic multilayers were deposited on ionic substrates by a photo-crosslinking LbL process using photo-crosslinkable polymers. The photo-crosslinked surface was converted to an anionic surface by excess UV light irradiation. This treatment allowed also the stable adhesion between metal electrode or cationic polyelectrolyte and hydrophobic multilayers. After dissolving the ionic substrates in water, the formed free-standing films exhibited unique functionalities of inserted components within hydrophobic and/or hydrophilic multilayers.
A model describing the reaction rate and catalyst deactivation in a simplified reaction system was developed to investigate the significance of catalyst pore structure in terms of porosities, porosity ratios, and size ratios of reactants to pores. The model showed that the unimodal catalyst could give a better performance than the bimodal in certain circumstances and the crossover found in the reactivity curves resulted from a trade-off between surface area and diffusivity. Under the assumption of uniform coke buildup, the bimodal catalyst appeared to provide better resistance to deactation than unimodal catalyst.
Performances and internal behaviors of the upflow hybrid anaerobic filters treating a dairy wastewater were analyzed to identify the functions and roles of the modular crossflow media and sludge bed layer and to discover their interrelationship in the filter. The media could perform independent biological and physical separation role without buildup of sludge bed, while the role of sludge bed was dependent on the function of the media. The filter packed with the crossflow media did not necessarily require the formation of sludge bed when treating a dairy wastewater. Biological contribution of the media was controlled by that of biologically active sludge bed complementing mutually each other. The gas-liquid-solid separation capability of the media was indispensible to ensure the active biological role of sludge bed, since sludge bed buildup without the media had no independently effective biological function. It was believed that the filter in itself could also function as a selector for physical gas-liquid-solid separation resulting in selectively concentrating particles with superior settleability in sludge bed. The sludge bed in the filter played a key role in the physical solids capture from influent as well as biological organics removal.
Laboratory tests have revealed that the liquefaction resistance of sands depends strongly upon the degree of saturation, which is expressed in terms of the pore pressure coefficient, B. The velocity of compression waves(i.e. P-waves), which have been known to be influenced largely by the degree of saturation and can be measured conveniently in the field, appears as an indicator of saturation. In this paper, the Stokoe type torsional shear(TS) testing equipment is modified to saturate the specimen and measure the velocities of P-wave and S-wave and pore pressure buildup. The velocities of P-wave and S-wave for Toyoura sand from Japan is measured and compared at the various B-value (degree of saturation) which are partially saturated to fully saturated conditions. Additionally, the variation of the pore water pressure induced during undrained TS tests at the various B-value is measured and analyzed.
To engrave high-density circuit-line patterns in IC substrates, we applied a projection ablation technique in which a dielectric ($ZrO_2/SiO_2$) mask, a DPSS UV laser instead of an excimer laser, a refractive beam shaping optics and a galvo scanner are used. The line/space dimension of line patterns of the dielectric mask is $10{\mu}m/10{\mu}m$. Using a ${\pi}$ -shaper and a square aperture, the Gaussian beam from the laser is shaped into a square flap-top beam; and a telecentric f-${\theta}$ lens focuses it to a $115{\mu}m{\times}105{\mu}m$ flat-top beam on the mask. The galvo scanner before the f-${\theta}$ lens moves the beam across the scan area of $40mm{\times}40mm$. An 1:1 projection lens was used. Experiments showed that the widths of the engraved patterns in a buildup film ranges from $8.1{\mu}m$ to $10.2{\mu}m$ and the depths from $8.8{\mu}m$ to $11.7{\mu}m$. Results indicates that it is required to increase the projection ratio to enhance profiles of the engraved patterns.

This study assessed the long term structure of forest age groups and the possibility of a domestic wood supply based on the wood industry buildup master plan. Wood is assumed to be supplied by main cutting, renewal, cutting damaged trees and thinning. The cohort equation was applied to identify the dynamic changes in forest area according to the age groups. The sixth age group, which composed of only 7.7% in 2010, is expected to comprise 73% of the total production land. The area distributions of the other age groups are expected to be between 5.3 - 5.6%. Consequently, the production volume from main cutting accounts for approximately 93 - 95% of the total production. The production volume from thinning, which depends on the area of the second and third age groups, will be decreased gradually. When the volume of domestic timber supply was compared with the timber demand from a previous study, the self-sufficiency of timber demand will be approximately 83% in 2050.
We have studied the blending effects of Diene NF 35 R and Alfin 1530 at various blending ratios, 100/0, 70/30, 50/50, 30/70, 0/100, and of carbon black HAF-HS and ISAF-HS at various compounding ratios of 45 PHR, 55 PHR, 65 PHR, for tyre tread rubber. As the results, it was found that; 1. For tyre tread rubber, as the blending ratio, AR 1530/Diene NF 35R, indicated 70/30, the physical properties we examined were most excellent. 2. Excellent result was obtained in the case of carbon black compounding ratio of 55 PHR. The compounding of ISAF-HS made better result than that of HAF-HS for tensile strength, but the compounding of HAF-HS made better result than that of ISAF-HS for tearing strength and best result for abrasion quantity. 3. Heat buildup obtained from compounding carbon black HAF-HS indicated low temperature than that from compounding carbon black HAP-HS. As the compounding amount of carbon black increased, and as the blending amount of AR 1530 decreased, the heat buildup increased. 4. Carbon black was more efficient to AR 1630 than io Diene NF 35 R. 5. In the physical properties, mooney viscosity and mooney scorch time, as the compounding amount of carbon black increased, the values of mooney viscosity increased, but that of mooney scorch time had a max. point at the compoundiug amount of carbon black, 55 PHR.
Self-assembled multilayer thin films of poly(ethylene-alt-maleic anhydride) (PEMAh) and poly(4-vinyl pyridine) (P4VP) were fabricated by layer-by-layer (LbL) sequential adsorption. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopic analysis of the self-assembled PEMAh/P4VP multilayer films confirms that the driving forces for the multilayer buildup are the intermolecular hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions. The linear increase of absorption peak of P4VP at 256 nm with increasing number of PEMAh/P4VP bilayers indicates that the multilayer buildup is an uniform assembling process. We also investigate the effects of polyelectrolyte concenhation variation of the dipping solution and pH variation of the PEMAh solution on the multilayer film formation. Thickness. adsorbed polyelectrolyte mass and surface roughness of the multilayer films were measured by UV-visible spectroscopy, quartz crystal microbalance (QCM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM), respectively.

Static electricity is an imbalance of electric charges within or on the surface of a material. All packed items that are particularly sensitive to static discharge must be protected by antistatic treatment. Otherwise, static electricity generated by an electrical insulator may cause serious damages to some sensitive electronics. In order to remove or prevent a buildup of static electricity, packed items must be treated with the application of an antistatic agent, which helps any excess charge to be evenly distributed. Functional pulp tray used for packing of electronic goods was developed with application of an antistatic agent. As the concentration of the antistatic agent increased, charging voltage and surface resistance of molded pulps decreased. The increase of humidity in surrounding atmosphere around molded pulps led to the decrease of accumulation of static charges. In conclusion, the surface treatment of the antistatic agent not only reduced or eliminated buildup of static electricity in the surface, but also prevented generation of tiny dirts from molded tray.
In this study, an Excel-based model (ROADMOD) was developed to estimate pollutant loading from the road and evaluate BMPs. ROADMOD employs the Chezy-Manning equation and empirical expression for estimating surface runoff, and power function for pollutant buildup, and exponential function for pollutant washoff in SWMM. The results of model calibration for buildup and washoff using observed data revealed a good match between the simulation results and the observed data. The long-term surface runoff and sediment simulated by ROADMOD demonstrated a good match with those by SWMM with 2 ~ 14% of relative error. The shorter sweeping interval (within 8 days) remarkably decreased sediment loads from the road. It was found that the effect of reducing sediment loads from the road was greatly affected not only by the sweeping interval but also by sweeping on the day before a rainfall event. The 48% of removal efficiency of sediment loads from the road was achieved with 26 times of road sweeping per year when sweeping was performed on the day before the rainfall event. A 4-day sweeping interval showed similar removal efficiency (48%) with 96 times of sweeping per year. It is considered that the road sweeping on the day before a rainfall event could maximize the effect of reducing the non-point source pollution from the road with minimization of the number of road sweeping. So, the road sweeping on the day before a rainfall event can be considered as one of the useful and best management practices (BMPs) on road.
