  • Demolition work is a precedence activity that is performed earlier than other remodeling activities. And demolition work is one of the critical path activities. So, demolition work is needed for systematic plan and management. However, contractors of the remodeling project established a rough plan and did not consider recycling wastes, safety of workers and structural stable of building. To improve this problem, a eco-friend process model of remodeling project is needed to be established. The process model is composed of five phases; 1) survey and analysis of general condition of demolition work, 2) prepare documents of demolition work 3) establishing demolition work plan, 4) demolition and inspection, 5) post-demolition management. Especially, demolition documents are based on establishing WBS, selecting the equipment and method, waste management and structure reinforcement. A process model of eco-friend demolition work is developed by using IDEF0 method.

  • The most critical issue in free-form buildings is how to construct the free-formed exterior facade panels. Their geometric complexity delivers many cons and problems in fabricating and constructing their shapes. To construct a free-form building, first of all, its skin has to be chopped into small pieces, which is called panelization. After panelization, the panels go through an optimization process to construct them economically. The panel's geometries are modified or regenerated through this optimization process. In this study, the panel optimization process of free-form buildings are performed through a case study. The panel shapes of the case study are modeled with Digital Project. To test the constructability of the various panels, 8 mock-up panels are made and laser scanning technology is applied to measure the preciseness of the panels manufactured in comparison with their original design.

  • The purpose of this study is to deduct the structural damage / work process risks factors which can be occurred during the decommissioning in the NPP containment concrete structure. To achieve these purpose, risk profile specified in the construction industry is analyzed, and the work process of NPP decommissioning and the construction project were matched based on the similarity of each works. Accordingly, human and physical risk factors are classified. Finally, the risk associated with the building structure and work process was classified as per their process activities, and risk typology explaining the disaster which put the structure, equipments, machine and workers in serious danger was developed.

  • A project for construction of Korea Geodetic VLBI has officially started in Oct. 2008. The construction of all system will be completed by the end of 2011. The project was named Korea VLBI system for Geodesy (KVG), and its main purpose is to maintain the Korea Geodetic Datum. In case of the KVG system, an observation room where an H-maser frequency standard is located is in a building separated from an antenna by several tens of meters. Therefore KVG system will adopt a so-called round-trip system to transmit reference signals to the antenna with diminishing the effect of path length variations. KVG's round-trip system is designed not only available to use either metal or optical fiber cables, but also available to measure path length variations directly by using K5/VSSP32 sampler. We will present principle of round-trip system and the new type of round trip system for KVG.

  • The 3D objects far representing artificial element in building project can be easily organized in 4D system. However, the civil engineering projects need a composing technology of irregular triangulate network because the projects generally include earthwork of large scale that consists of cutting, filling, and excavating work. It Is very difficult to represent earthwork status as 3D object type because the earthwork in highway or railway projects is being progressed on the natural geographical features. That is, a composing technology of irregular triangulate networks necessary function to simulate natural site condition as 3D object in 4D system. This study suggests a new composing technology of irregular triangulate network that 3D objects can be automatically generated by attribute in each layer.

  • In apartment house renovation project, the project progress held up in perception gap or conflict of interest with residents as usual. These dispute occurs ambiguous borderline ordistinction of Common Useing) Parts and Exclusive Possessed Private Parts. The Maintenance Covenant now in force in Korea and Japan are considered in this paper about theses item. Summarizing the conclusion is as below. 1) In The Maintenance Covenantnow in force, in definition of Ownership, Utilization, Maintenance, Japan is more ostensive than Korea. 2) The Borderline of Common Using Parts with Exclusive Possessed Parts is [Inner line of Exterior Wall] in Korea and in Japan also. But in Korea it is not in unity in purpose and action or definition and description. 3) In Japan, the Subject of Ownership is defined with hierarchically, as Housing complex-residential Building-individual dwelling, But not in Korea. 4) In Japan, [Exclusively using Common Owned Parts] are defined, But not in Korea.

  • Purpose: This is the ex-post evaluation on "the Central General Hospital in Quang Nam Province in Vietnam" funded by Korean ODA. Through this evaluation, this study tries to explore useful ways to improve the effectiveness of Korean ODA projects related to hospital establishment. Methods: Field survey and analysis of questionaire to the staffs and patients of Quang Nam Province General Hospital were conducted twice in 2012 and 2014 after the completion of the Hospital. Two sets of surveys and questionaire outcomes have been comparatively analysed by statistics in order to seek the trend of satisfaction level of hospital users and find out the improvement way in hospital design and construction. Results: The satisfaction level on the hospital was relatively high and that of 2014 is higher than that of 2012. The satisfaction level of the users was recorded in Likert 5 scales. Continuous facility complement and maintenance is considered as the main contributor in increasing the satisfaction level of users. As far as the satisfaction level of outpatient is concerned, that of 2012 was recorded as 3.65 and that of 2014 was 4.05. In case of inpatient, the satisfaction level on the hospital in 2012 was 3.76, and 4.06 in 2014. Implications: In overseas hospital projects, proper hospital project management system including medical service plan, strategic plan, brief, design & construction and maintenance have to be put together effectively and efficiently for the success of the hospital project. At the same time local climate, culture, building material and local code have to be considered in order to build sustainable hospital.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the practical effectiveness of the constructivism education theory in building information modeling (BIM)/integrated project delivery (IPD) collaboration education by determining education methods that are most relevant to collaboration in the interaction process. We propose a BIM training model that enhances students' satisfaction in class and collaboration. We aim to identify interrelationships between BIM collaboration education and constructivism theories, examining constructivism methods in BIM/IPD classes to discern which are the most suitable for improving and enhancing collaboration and the proposed education model.

  • As cities expand and underground utilities construction projects increase, there is an urgent need for a technology capable of analyzing the underground utilities network in 3D. Since 2015, 3D Underground Geospatial Map project, that has been integrating 15 types of underground information such as underground utilities, underground structures, and ground information, is in progress in S. Korea. However, the construction of 3D underground facilities is currently based on manual work and the logic for building a 3D model is very complicated. And it takes a lot of time and cost to process millions of large amounts of data per local governments. By presenting a framework on the processing and partial updating of the 3D underground utilities model, this paper aims to establish a plan to quickly build a 3D underground utility model at a minimum cost. The underground utilities processing and partial update automation technologies developed in this study are expected to be immediately applied to the 3D Underground Geospatial Map project.
