  • In this paper, aerodynamic data of the Gaori kite was constructed through the wind tunnel experiment taking into consideration all the angles of attack formed during the flight of the Gaori kite. From this aerodynamic data, we made a morphing analysis of the relative length of the front bridle to the rear bridle required to achieve equilibrium flight as the angle of attack of the Gaori kite or the azimuth angle change. As a result, it was found that the relative length of the front bridle to the rear bridle depends entirely on the chord length of the kite, the relative wind speed and changes morphed according to the angle of attack. Using this information data, one can adjust the relative length of the bridle line to suit the kite attitudes and flight environments handling the kites that maintain optimal flight performance.

  • The maneuverability of a tugboat is affected by the slewing motion of a barge while the tug is navigating with the barge in water. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the slewing motion of the barge to allow for safe towing work. In this study, a water tank experiment was performed to examine the factors affecting the slewing motion of a barge and improve course stability. The characteristics of slewing motion vary according to bow shape. Three barge models, each with a different bow shape, were selected as experimental subjects. A comprehensive analysis was performed to study the effects of various factors on the slewing motion of a barge such as the presence of a skeg and bridle, towing speed, and the length of the towline. The effect of the location of the skeg varied according to bow-hull form. The slewing motion of the barge decreased as the length of the towline increased, and this decrease was even greater when a bridle was connected to the towline. In addition, the slewing motion decreased significantly as the length of the bridle increased. The slewing angles did not show significant change with respect to towing speed.

  • In this paper, the equilibrium flight conditions of a Korean Traditional Bangpae Kite with low aspect ratio were analyzed by it's aerodynamic data of wind tunnel test. The data of aerodynamic forces and center of pressure of the Kite were used to calculate the relative length of bridles to satisfy the condition of settling the kite to the static equilibrium steady state between ${\theta}=30^{\circ}{\sim}60^{\circ}$. From this equilibrium flight performance analysis, we obtained ($0.88{\pm}0.02$)c of the rear bridle length corresponding to 0.88c of fixed front bridle length. These results were exact agreement with the relative bridle lengths by Korean classical method.

  • When a tug-barge navigates in the water, maneuvering ability of a tug is affected by the slewing motion of barge. Therefore it is necessary to decrease the slewing motion of a barge for safe towing work. We chose two different types of barge model and investigated their motion depending on the existence of bridle, towing speed and length of towline. The experiments are performed in the still water using the wire rope for the towline. A longer towline makes the heading angle smaller. The towing speed does not largely affect the turning of barge. Finally, it is noted that the bridle of a towing line decrease the slewing motion of barge more effectively.

  • The slew motion of a single point moored ship by the external forces is considered to control itself. The maneuvering equations of motion are derived to express the motion of a ship. The wind forces and the wave forces are considered as the external forces of the single point moored ship in the simulation. The wave forces in the time domain analysis are generated from the frequency transfer function calculated by 3-D source distribution method. The wind forces are used the results from OCIMF(1994). To control the slew motion, the bow thruster and the bridle anchoring with 2nd anchor are used in the numerical simulation.

  • Yatsushiro Shrine on the island of Kamishima located in Ise Bay, Japan, contains many cultural artifacts with ancient mirrors in significant numbers. Also included among the artifacts are horse gags and reins that are clearly of the same lineage as the horse harnesses from the unified Shilla era and Goryeo era in Korean history. Type classification and position establishment were carried out on the horse reins kept in the Yatsushiro shrine, including items such as those mentioned previously. Type A horse harness can be classified into 3 types. Based on this classification scheme, the harness type in the Yatsushiro shrine was found to belong to the most recent period. The blacksmith workshop that made the harness was producing iron wares and bronze wares, and it possessed metal forging and metal casting technologies. Note, however, that it was primarily a workshop where iron wares were made. The parts that were visible from the outside when the harness was attached were made from composite bronze, and the reins and bridle linkage were made from iron. Such integration of bronze ware production techniques and iron ware production techniques was an attempt at enhancing the practicality and embellishments on the harness.

  • A numerical model analysis was performed to analyze the stability of the mooring lines of an automatic submersible fish cage system in waves and currents. The fish cage system consisted of a 12-angled rigid frame, net cage, cover net, 12 upper floats, 12 tanks(for fixed and variable ballast), mooring lines, anchors, and a control station. Simulations were performed with the cage at the surface of the water and at a depth of 20 m. A Morison equation type model was used for simulations of the system in two configurations. The force parameters described both regular and random waves, with and without currents, and their values were input to the model. Mooring tension calculations were conducted on the mooring lines, grid lines and lower bridle lines of the cage. The stability of the mooring lines was checked under both static and dynamic conditions.

  • We develope a riding robot system named as "RideBot" for health-care and entertainments. An algorithm for estimating riding position and volition is proposed by using bio-signals. We analyze the riding position and volition in real-horse riding environments and build up the database. With this database and sensor informations, standard positions are made. For the volition estimation, we use the acceleration and deceleration sensor information and bridle information for direction change. We propose a hybrid control algorithm in which discrete-state and continuous-state controls are combined. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm is evaluated thru various experiments.
