  • The joints between precast PSC slabs of the intermediate road slab in double deck tunnel are inevitably generated in the road traffic vehicle traveling direction. Therefore, it is important to make the behavior of parts on the joint in one piece. The imtermediate road slab system of double deck tunnel in great depth proposed in this study will be constructed with precast PSC slab in order to minimize the construction period. And the joint connection between the precast slab has been developed in two methods: the 'Transverse tendon reinforcement method' and 'High strength bolts connection method'. Also, the experiments were performed for the full scale model in order to evaluate the performance of the intermediate road deck slab with two type joints systems, the structural stability was verified through the F.E.M analsysis. The results of static loading test and F.E.M analysis investigated a very stable behavior of intermediate road deck slab in double deck tunnel applying the joint methods developed in this study, in the cracks and deflections to satisfy the design standards of Highway Roads Bridges (2011), it was determined that there is no problem even servicebility.

  • When constructing projects such as road embankments, bridge approaches, dikes or buildings on soft, compressible soils, significant settlements may occur due to the consolidation of these soils under the superimposed loads. The compressibility of the soil skeleton of a soft clay is influenced by such factors as structure and fabric, stress path, temperature and loading rate. Although it is possible to determine appropriate relations and the corresponding material parameters in the laboratory, it is well known that sample disturbance due to stress release, temperature change and moisture content change can have a profound effect on the compressibility of a clay. The early research of Tezaghi and Casagrande has had a lasting influence on our interpretation of consolidation data. The 24 hour, incremental load, oedometer test has become, more or less, the standard procedure for determining the one-dimensional, stress-strain behavior of clays. An important notion relates to the interpretation of the data is the ore-consolidation pressure ${\sigma}_p$, which is located approximately at the break in the slope on the curve. From a practical point of view, this pressure is usually viewed as corresponding to the maximum past effective stress supported by the soil. Researchers have shown, however, that the value of ${\sigma}_p$ depends on the test procedure. furthermore, owing to sampling disturbance, the results of the laboratory consolidation test must be corrected to better capture the in-situ compressibility characteristics. The corrections apply, strictly speaking, to soils where the relation between strain and effective stress is time independent. An important assumption in Terzaghi's one-dimensional theory of consolidation is that the soil skeleton behaves elastically. On the other hand, Buisman recognized that creep deformations in settlement analysis can be important. this has led to extensions to Terzaghi's theory by various investigators, including the applicant and coworkers. The main object of this study is to suggestion the modified compression index value to predict settlements by back calculating the $C_c$ from different numerical models, which are giving best prediction settlements for multi layers including very thick soft clay.

  • This paper presents a new vibration control method for long-span bridges using complex damper system. The new system presents simple mechanical configuration with oil and elasto-plastic dampers which have velocity and displacement dependency in vibration energy absorbing. This system can produce various damping forces according to the applied external forces by the velocity and displacement-dependent characteristics of the dampers. The oil damper dissipates vibration energy for relatively frequent and small amplitude like in the case for small to moderate earthquakes, whereas the elasto-plastic damper system works for rare and large amplitude vibration such as high seismic excitation. Thus, the proposed system exhibits the advantage of low cost with high performance since the roles of the two different dampers are effectively separated. A numerical model is established for the complex damper system, and the response characteristics and effectiveness of the proposed system are presented through numerical simulations. Numerical results show that the proposed complex damper system can significantly improve the seismic performance of long-span bridge structures with much more effective damping mechanism than single conventional passive damper systems.

  • ENUM(tElephon NUmbering Mapping) is protocol that brings convergence between PSTN Networks and IP Networks using a unique worldwide E.164 telephone number as an identifier between different communication infrastructure. The mechanism provides a bridge between two completely different environments with E.164 number; IP based application services used in PSTN networks, and PSTN based application services used in IP networks. We propose a new way to organize and handle ENUM Tier 2 name servers to improve performance at the name resolution process in ENUM based application service. We build an ENUM based network model when NAPTR(Naming Authority PoinTeR) resource record is registered and managed by area code at the initial registration step. ENUM promises convenience and flexibility to both PSTN and IP users, yet there is no evidence how much patience is required when users decide to use ENUM instead of non-ENUM based applications. We have estimated ENUM response time, and proved how to improve performance up to 3 times when resources are managed by the proposed mechanism. The proposition of this thesis favorably influences users and helps to establish the policy for Tier 2 name server management.

  • The research, development and use of seismic isolation systems have been increasing with the gradual development of structure safety assurance methods for earthquakes. The High Damping Rubber Bearing (HDRB), one type of seismic isolation system, is a Laminated Rubber Bearing using special High Damping Rubber. However, as its damping function is slightly lower than that of the Lead Rubber Bearing, a similar seismic isolation system, its utilization has not been high. However, the HDRB has a superior damping force to the Natural Rubber Bearing, which has similar materials and shapes, and the existing Lead Rubber Bearing has a maleficence problem in that it contains lead. Thus, studies on HDRBs that do not use lead have increased. In this study, a test targeting the HDRB was done to examine its various dependence properties, such as its compressive stress, frequency and repeated loading. To evaluate the HDRB's seismic performance in response to several earthquake waves, the shaking table test was performed and the results analyzed. The test used the downscaled bridge model and the HDRB was divided into seismic and non-seismic isolation. Consequently, when the HDRB was applied, the damping effect was higher in the non-seismic case. However, its responses on weak foundations, such as in Mexico City, represented increased shapes. Thus, its seismic isolator.

  • Recently, according to the development of measurement techniques, it has become possible to take complicated and time-consuming field measurements in a simple and convenient manner. In this background, this study estimated the tension of cables under ambient vibration using minimized measurement and signal processing. The VBDM using video-only by low-cost equipment was used as a minimized measurement. An estimation of the natural frequency using the mirror frequency concept was also proposed to solve the shortage of frequency band in this case. Furthermore, the FDD method was adopted for a natural frequency estimation in the ambient vibration related to field application. Experimental studies using a cable-stayed bridge model were carried out to examine the properties of the mirror frequency and the applicability of FDD with the proposed minimized system. The results showed that FDD for ambient vibration also works properly in an estimation of the natural frequency using the minimized system. In addition, the mirror frequency concept can allow a high natural frequency estimation even in a distorted signal by low-speed recording, which can overcome the limit of the minimized system. Overall, the proposed minimized system can be effective for the tension estimations of a cable under ambient vibration.

  • In this paper the response factor is investigated for middle and small size-RC slab aged bridges. The response factor consists of static and dynamic response factors and is a main parameter in the frequency based-bridge load carrying capacity prediction model. Static and dynamic response factors are determined based on the frequency variation and the impact factor variation respectively between current and previous (or design) states of bridges. Here, the impact factor variation is figured out using the impact factor response spectrum which provides the impact factor according to the natural frequency of bridges. In this study, four actual RC slab bridges aged over 30 years after construction are considered and their span length is 12m. The dynamic loading test in field using a dump truck and eigenvalue analysis with FE models are conducted to identify the current and previous (or design) state-natural frequencies of the bridges, respectively. For more realistic considerations in the moving loading situation, the impact factor response spectrum is developed based on tri-axle moving loads representing the dump truck load distribution and various supporting conditions such as simply supported and both ends fixed conditions. From the results, the response factor is widely ranged from 0.21to 0.91, showing that the static response factor contributes significantly on the results while the dynamic response factor has a small effect on the result. Compared to the results obtained from the impact factor response spectrum based on the single axle-simply supported condition, the maximum percentage difference of the response factors is below 3.2% only.

  • This article empirically explores the impact of minijobs in the wake of the Hartz reform in Germany on women's employment relationship. Theoretically it is of great significance to examine whether the minijobs play an active role as a bridge in leading the minijobbers to regular, socially secured jobs or not. Several interviews as well as secondary data I could get during my sabbatical in 2015 were used to test the theory. One of the main findings was the fact that the minijob labor market opened doors wide for women in Germany, particularly for career-interrupted women, students or pensioners. However, the minijob can easily become a trap of lowest income and poverty for women. Most women minjobbers cannot go over to regular, socially secured jobs. Especially in terms of collective industrial relations, it considerably damages the power of industrial unions and the legal binding force of collective agreement. In conclusion, this study makes it clear that the labor market segmentation theory rather than the transitional labor market theory is valid in accounting for the reality of minijob in Germany. In other words, the minijob in Germany has a Toijan Horse Effect. It also suggests, from a practical viewpoint, that German industrial unions or works councils organize the minijobbers and that the coverage of collective agreements be extended to the minijobbers. Consequently, the time-selective part-timer model put into practice in Korea in 2014 is not only invalid but also undesirable.

  • In performing the structural analysis, the foundation is considered to be a fixed end as a plastic hinge model. In this study, the displacements of the foundation, pier, and shoe were compared when the foundation modeled as a fixed end, a shallow foundation constructed on bedrock of 2m depth, and a pile foundation constructed in the 10m to 20m depth of bedrock. The shear force was also compared, and the probability of damage was calculated and compared for the critical condition. When calculated as a fixed end, the displacement of the foundation converged to 0mm, but the shallow foundation built on the bedrock with a depth of 2m caused relatively displacement, and the pile foundation constructed to contact the bedrock with a depth of 18m caused a larger displacement. In addition, it was analyzed that the displacement of the foundation, which is the lower structure, affects the displacement of the super structure, but the difference in shear force applied to the foundation was insignificant in the three cases. There was no difference between the shallow foundation and the pile foundation in the influence on the displacement of the top of the pier, but there was a big difference from the analysis assuming as a fixed end.

  • The extremely isolated uninhabited island at the end of the West Sea in South Korea called "The Gyeokryeolbi Yeoldo" has recently begun to be managed by the government under the influence of public opinion demanding the island to be strictly protected. The island was created 70 million years ago by volcanic activities. So it is older than the birth history of Jeju Island, which is estimated to have been born about a million years ago. This study has focused on providing the basis for imagetelling and storytelling of the Gyeokryeolbi Yeoldo, known for its important value by exploring the cultural resources of the island. For the research, the ethnography including in-depth local interview and on-site investigation have been applied for 3 years from February 2018 to December 2020 in Taean, Chungnam Province, where the island is located. To analyze the cultural resources of this island, the resource classification model has been designed and used, which is modified from Valentine (2001) and Chi-ho Nam (2007). As a result, the "tangible cultural resources (TCR)" including various remains found on the island were mainly symbols of cultural bridge in the history of Korea-China exchange, and the spiritual land of life-saving. Also "intangible cultural resources (ICR)" extracted from the island were focused on the images of life protection, safety, bravery, and romance. Based on this study, the core concept of identity to be applied when refurbishing the island with a prominent cultural placeness( "sense of place") can be proposed as "a cultural ecological island centered on the Circular Yellow Sea that ruminates memories of love."
