  • A new cell-cross bridge mechanics model is proposed to analyze the mechanics of heart muscle. Electrophysiology of a cardiac cell is numerically approximated using the previous model of human ventricular myocyte. Ion transports across cell membrane initiated by action potential induce excitation-contraction mechanism in the cell via cross bridge dynamics. Negroni and Lascano model (NL model) is employed to compute the tension of cross bridge closely related to ion dynamics in cytoplasm.

  • The aim of this paper is to verify the dynamics stability of the continuous PSC Box bridges on the high-speed Kyoung-bu railway when a high-sped train runs through it. An experimental study was carried out to investigate the dynamic behaviors of the PSC Box railway bridge, which had ben designed based on dynamic design criteria. As a result, it was determined that PSC Box railway bridges possess enough dynamics stability for use by high-speed trains. According to the result of a field test (dynamics measuring analysis) that was conducted, an application of the natural frequency of train speed and the adjustment of the bridge's span length will allow one to come up with a more economical and suitable bridge design. Furthermore, it was found that the continuous control of the bridge's dynamic behavior and the bridge's maintena nce require the recording of data. The results of this study are very important in evaluating the structural stability of high-speed line bridges.

  • A conditional probability based approach known as Particle Filter Method (PFM) is a powerful tool for system parameter identification. In this paper, PFM has been applied to identify the vehicle parameters based on response statistics of the bridge. The flexibility of vehicle model has been considered in the formulation of bridge-vehicle interaction dynamics. The random unevenness of bridge has been idealized as non homogeneous random process in space. The simulated response has been contaminated with artificial noise to reflect the field condition. The performance of the identification system has been examined for various measurement location, vehicle velocity, bridge surface roughness factor, noise level and assumption of prior probability density. Identified vehicle parameters are found reasonably accurate and reconstructed interactive force time history with identified parameters closely matches with the simulated results. The study also reveals that crude assumption of prior probability density function does not end up with an incorrect estimate of parameters except requiring longer time for the iterative process to converge.

  • Recently, a cable disconnection accident occurred due to a lightning strike at the Seohae Bridge located in Dangjin-Pyeongtaek City. This is a natural occurrence, but it is a recall that it is very important to review the safety issues due to the disconnection of cable bridges. In other words, the role of cables in cable bridges has a profound effect on the safety of the structure, and it has become necessary to grasp the effect on the entire structural system. The cable bridge is an economic bridge that builds the main tower and supports the bottom plate by cable. The influence of the cable is the main member, which is a big influence on the safety of the whole bridge system. In the cable-stayed bridge, the cables exhibit nonlinear behavior because of the change in sag, due to the dead weight of the cable, which occurs with changing tension in the cable resulting from the movement of the end points of the cable as the bridge is loaded. Modal analysis is conducted using the deformed dead-load tangent stiffness matrix. A new concept was presented by using divided a cable into several elements in order to study the effect of the cable vibration (both in-plane and swinging) on the overall bridge dynamics. The result of this study demonstrates the importance of cable vibration on the overall bridge dynamics.

  • The basic idea of cable-stayed girder bridges is the utilization of high strength cables to provide intermediate supports for the bridge girder so that the girder can span a much longer distance. In the cable-stayed bridge, the cables exhibit nonlinear behavior because of the change in sag, due to the dead weight of the cable, which occurs with changing tension in the cable resulting from the movement of the end points of the cable as the bridge is loaded. Techniques required for the static analysis of cable-stayed bridges has been developed by many researchers. However, little work has been done on the dynamic analysis of such structures. To investigate the characteristics of the dynamic response of long-span cable-stayed bridges due to various dynamic loadings likes moving traffic loads. two different 3-D cable-stayed bridge models are considered in this study. Two models are exactly the same in structural configurations but different in finite element discretization.

  • After the collapse of the Tacoma bay bridge at Tacoma Washington, the accurate prediction of aerodynamics became crucial to the sound design of bridges. CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) becomes important tool for the prediction on wind effects on the bridge due to the recent development of CFD. The usage of CFD is further prompted by the advantages in using CFD, such as low-cost and fast feed-back of design. In this paper, an unsteady compressible Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes code is used for the computation of the flow over bridges. Coakley's q-${\omega}$ two-equation turbulence model is used for the turbulent eddy viscosity. For accurate and stable computations, the local preconditioning method is adapted to the code. Aerodynamic characteristics of a couple bridges are presented to show the validity and the accuracy of the method.

  • A new conception of fundamental tasks in dynamics of the bridge-track-train systems (BTT), with the aim to evaluate moving load's models adequacy, has been developed. The 2D physical models of BTT systems, corresponding to the fundamental tasks, have been worked out taking into account one-way constraints between the moving unsprung masses and the track. A method for deriving the implicit equations of motion, governing vibrations of BTT systems' models, as well as algorithms for numerical integration of these equations, leading to the solutions of high accuracy and relatively short times of simulations, have been also developed. The derived equations and formulated algorithms constitute the basis for numerical simulation of vibrations of the considered systems.

  • The paper constitutes the second part of the author's study. The first part (Podworna 2010) formulates four fundamental tasks in dynamics of the bridge-track-train systems. The following cyclic moving loads are considered: a concentrated forces stream (model P), an unsprung masses stream (model M), a single-mass viscoelastic oscillators stream (model $M_o$) and a double-mass viscoelastic oscillators stream (model $MM_o$). Three problems precluding to the numerical simulations have been developed, i.e., prediction of the forced resonances, the parameters of integration of equations of motion, the output results. A computer programme was written in Pascal and numerical research in the scope of the fundamental tasks was worked out. The investigations were focused on adequacy evaluation of the moving load models, P, M, $M_o$, $MM_o$, in predicting dynamic processes in railway bridges.
