  • Brain organoid is a three-dimensional (3D) tissue derived from stem cells such as induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) embryonic stem cells (ESCs) that reflect real human brain structure. It replicates the complexity and development of the human brain, enabling studies of the human brain in vitro. With emerging technologies, its application is various, including disease modeling and drug screening. A variety of experimental methods have been used to study structural and molecular characteristics of brain organoids. However, electrophysiological analysis is necessary to understand their functional characteristics and complexity. Although electrophysiological approaches have rapidly advanced for monolayered cells, there are some limitations in studying electrophysiological and neural network characteristics due to the lack of 3D characteristics. Herein, electrophysiological measurement and analytical methods related to neural complexity and 3D characteristics of brain organoids are reviewed. Overall, electrophysiological understanding of brain organoids allows us to overcome limitations of monolayer in vitro cell culture models, providing deep insights into the neural network complex of the real human brain and new ways of disease modeling.

  • This is to understand the neurological dynamic cognitive processes of math learning based on the abstract mappings( level A2), abstract systems(level A3), and single principles(level A4), which are principles of Fischer's cognitive development theory. Math learning requires flexibility to adapt existing brain function in selecting new neurophysiological activities to learn desired knowledge. This study suggests a general statistical framework for the identification of neurological patterns in different abstract learning change with optimal support. We expected that functional brain networks derived from a simple math learning would change dynamically during the supportive learning associated with different abstract levels. Task based patterns of the brain structure and function on representations of underlying connectivity suggests the possible prediction for the success of the supportive learning.

  • This study examined the characteristics of brain's reaction pattern concerning the preference for product images and compared them with the result of subjects' intuitive evaluation of their preference for the same materials. Two tests were conducted; the first one that calculated comfort properties based on brainwave measurements in order to examine the impression given by the images of products presented separately, one-by-one, and the second one that had subjects evaluate the preference directly by comparing the images of all products simultaneously. The first test was titled 'Independent Cognitive Response' and the second test, 'Relative Cognitive Response', and their characteristics were as follows. In the 'Independent Cognitive Response', the state of emotion was expressed in absolute values based on the comparison with the information accumulated through the subject's own experience and the feeling expressed as 'pleasant' or 'unpleasant' persisted as absolute values. In the 'Relative Cognitive Response', the state of emotion relative to the information of other images compared in the stage of perceiving the images was expressed, and in this case, the state of emotion described as 'calm' or 'excited' acted as relative values.

  • This study is focused on the effects of one's blood type on emotional character and anti-stress by comparing each individual's brain wave. Observed records are from those kids who volunteered for KRIJUS(Korea Research Institute of Jungshin Science)'s brain wave measurement from September 2006 to December 2009. The whole 4636 adult(20-59 age) group consists of 3221 female and 1415 male. Blood types are as follows; A>B>O>AB dominately ordered. The result shown no relations between the blood types of adult and their emotional character. But meaningful difference had been revealed between the blood type and stress resistancy; type O rated higher scores in awarness and stress resistancy then other types, which shows that type O has more ability to redudce its stress. This study revealed meaningful relation between blood types and emotional character among several categoties, while suggesting follow-up researches figuring out more detailed explanations for its effect and genetic role.

  • To verify the condition of patients moving in the medical center like hospital needs to be consider the various wireless communication network protocols and network components. Wireless communication protocols such as the 802.11a, 802.11g, and direct sequence has their specific characteristics, and the various components such as the number of mobile nodes or the distance of transmission range could affects the performance of the network. Especially, the network topologies are considered the characteristic of the brain wave(EEG) since the condition of patient is detected from it. Therefore, in this paper, various wireless communication networks are designed and simulated with Opnet simulator, then evaluated the performance to verify the wireless network that transmits the patient's EEG data efficiently. Overall, the 802.11g had the best performance for the wireless network environment that transmits the EEG data. However, there were minor difference on the performance result depends on the components of the topologies.

  • This study was to examine the difference of Anti-Stress Quotient of pre-puberty, puberty, and post-puberty time. pre-pubescent students 28 and pubescent students, 35 classified by questionnaires from elementary and middle school students located in the Y city were participated in this research. post-pubescent students 33 were sampled from college students' data collected by Braintech Corp. And analyzed by brainwaves, which could be obtained through QEEG BQ(Brain Quotient) Analysis. The result of this study is as follow: post-puberty time was increased Anti-Stress Quotient due to the decrease of the Body Stress and the Mental Stress. It means that the psychological characteristics of puberty time can be proven by not only method of questionnaires but also scientific brainwaves.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between smoking attitudes and psychophysiological variables and to find out whether smoking cessation activities can be helpful for smoking cessation. We set up Negative Attitudes experience as a dependent variable. Several factors including Psychological Resistance, Psychological Distress and brainwave(Left brain ${\theta}$, Right Brain ${\theta}$) as a physiological indicator, which was expected to affect flow, were set up as independent variables to perform regression analysis. As a result, psychological resistance had negative influences on negative attitudes toward smoking in smoking simulation game and psychological distress had positive effect. And left brain ${\theta}$ had negative influences on negative attitudes toward smoking in smoking simulation game and right brain ${\theta}$ had positive effect.

  • This research was conducted to find out determinant variables which can influence the degree of flow in smoking simulation game. We set up flow experience as a dependent variable. Several factors including empathy, health concern, and brainwave(${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$) EEG(Electroencephalogram) as a physiological indicator, which was expected to affect flow, were set up as independent variables to perform regression analysis. As a result, empathy, health consciousness, and ${\beta}$ wave had positive influences on flow in smoking simulation game but ${\alpha}$ wave had negative effect. This research empirically analyzed users' experience and neurophysiological changes which can influence on flow in serious game and contributed to theoretical and methodological development in health-related game research.

  • Recently, with the high interest of machine learning, the need for educational controllers to interface with physical devices has increased. However, existing controllers are limited in terms of high cost and area of utilization for educational purposes. In this paper, motion control controllers using brain waves are proposed for the purpose of students' machine learning applications. The brain motion that occurs when imagining a specific action is measured and sampled, then the sample values were learned through Tensor Flow and the motion was recognized in contents such as games. Movement variation for motion recognition consists of directionality and jump motion. The identification of the recognition behavior is sent to a game produced by an Unreal Engine to operate the character in the game. In addition to brain waves, the implemented controller can be used in various fields depending on the input signal and can be used for educational purposes such as machine learning applications.

  • This Convergence study aimed to investigate the effects of changing brainwave neurofeedback training on life stress and depression in female college students. Twenty-six of the subjects were selected into the experimental group and the control group respectively intervention for 8 weeks, the following results were obtained. First, experimental group and control group presented statistical significant difference before and after intervention on life stress, and life stress in experimental group was statistical significantly decreased than control group. Second, experimental group and control group presented statistical significant difference before and after intervention on depression, and depression in experimental group was statistically significantly decreased than control group. The results obtained from this study expect us that applying the neurofeedback training for the decrease of life stress and depression, has a positive effect.
