영어 정보구조의 억양양상에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Intonational Patterns in English Information Structures)

  • Many researchers have argued about the relationship between information structure and intonation. Their results can be summarized in three main points: the intonation of topic and focus in English information structures is implemented as i) a pitch accent, ii) a tune (a pitch accent + (an) edge tone(s)), or iii) a boundary tone. The purpose of this paper is to study various intonational patterns of topic and focus in English information structures, using natural conversations. In this paper, the types of topics and foci are divided, based on contrastiveness. The topics are classified as five non-contrastive and four contrastive topics. The foci are classified as neutral focus, informational focus, and contrastive focus. The results show that the intonation of the topic in English information structures is mainly implemented as a pitch accent, except for the type of the pronoun topic (Lp) which is not implemented as a pitch accent or a tune. However, the intonation of the focus is implemented as a tune in the neutral focus (Fn) and as a pitch accent or a tune in the informational focus (Fi) and the contrastive focus (Fe). In our discussion and conclusion, we suggest that it is not always true that for the meaning of contrast, the topic or the focus is represented as a $L+H^{\ast}$ pitch accent, which has been the main contrastive intonation from earlier studies.

영어 의문사 의문문의 문미 억양 실현 양상과 의미 해석에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Sentence Final Tonal Patterns and the Meaning of English Wh-Questions)

  • The aim of this paper is to examine the sentence final tonal patterns of English wh-questions through phonetic experiments, based on Intonational Phonology, and to explain the meaning of the final phrase tones of English wh-questions. Pierrehumbert and Hirschberg (1990) suggested that it is pitch accents rather than boundary tones which play a crucial role in the meaning of a sentence, and that most of the general questions have H-H% tonal patterns in the sentence final. However, they could not explain why wh-questions had final falling tonal patterns (L-L%). While Bartels (1999) suggested that L phrase tone has the meaning of 'ASSERTION' and it could be applied to the explanation of the meaning of wh-questions' final tonal patterns. However, her suggestions are only theoretical explanation without any experimental support. In this paper, based on Bartels (1999), the data was classified into the following three classes: 1) echo wh-questions, 2) reference questions, and 3) common wh-questions. Using this data, a production test by three English native speakers was conducted. The results show that reference questions and common wh-questions have L phrase tones in the sentence final at a high rate, and echo wh-questions have H phrase tones in the sentence final at a high rate.

수치계산에 의한 초음속 제트에서의 스크리치 현상 해석 (Numerical Simulation of the Screech Phenomenon in a Supersonic Jet)

  • 초음속 제트 마하수 1.07부터 1.2 범위에서 축대칭 제트 스크리치 톤을 해석하였다. 축대칭 모드는 낮은 마하수 축대칭 제트의 지배적인 스크리치 톤 모드이다. 난류 해석을 위해 수정된 Spalart-Allmaras 모델을 RANS (Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes) 방정식에 사용하였다. 스크리치 톤 해석에서 중요한 음파의 전파, shock-cell 구조, shock-cell의 비정상 거동 및 거대한 불안정 파를 정확히 계산하기 위해 비반사 특성 경계조건과 연계한 고차정확도의 ENO 기법을 사용하였다. 수치해석결과는 다른 연구자들의 실험 결과와 잘 일치하였으며, 따라서 본 연구에 사용된 수치 기법들이 초음속 제트 유동 구조 및 소음연구에 유용함을 확인하였다.

한국어 원거리 음성의 운율적 특성 (Prosodic Characteristics of Korean Distant Speech)

  • 본 논문의 목적은 한국어 원거리 음성의 운율적 특성을 규명하는 것으로, 36개의 2음절어를 4명의 화자 (여성 화자 2명, 남성 화자 2명)가 원거리 환경과 일반환경에서 발화한 총 288개의 2음절어를 분석대상으로 하였다. 실험 결과 지속시간과 에너지의 경우는 일반 음성에 비하여 원거리 음성의 첫음절에 대한 둘째음절의 비율이 유의미하게 큰 것으로 나타났다. F0 대역폭의 경우에도 원거리 음성에서의 대역폭이 평이 음성에 비해 큰 값을 보였다. 억양 패턴에 있어서는 원거리 음성의 경우에 둘째음절에 'HL%'의 복합 경계성조가 실현되거나 첫음절에 'L+H' 성조가 실현되기도 하였으며 이 두 가지가 한 단어에 모두 실현되는 경우도 있었다.

운율경계정보를 이용한 HMM기반 한국어 TTS 자연성 향상 연구 (Improvement of Naturalness for a HMM-based Korean TTS using the prosodic boundary information)

  • HMM 기반 음성합성시스템은 성능향상을 위해 일반적으로 대용량 음성 DB로부터 생성된 문맥의존 tri-phone을 이용한다. 그리고 대용량 DB의 경량화를 위해서 문맥의존정보를 이용하여 결정트리 방식으로 발화특성이 유사한 문맥의존음소들을 군집화한다. 군집화에 사용하는 문맥의존정보는 음소열 뿐만 아니라 운율정보도 포함하는데 이는 합성음의 자연성이 끊어 읽기, 억양패턴, 음의 장단과 같은 운율에 의해 크게 좌우되기 때문이다. 그러나 복잡한 운율정보를 사용할 경우 훈련과정에 포함되지 않은 문맥의존음소는 하나의 대표값으로 평활화되며 이로 인해 합성음의 자연성이 크게 저하된다. 본 논문에서는 합성음의 자연성을 향상시키기 위해 복잡한 운율정보 대신 억양 변화를 상승, 평탄, 하강으로 구분함으로써 운율정보표현을 간소화시킨 운율경계정보를 포함하는 문맥의존정보에 대한 문맥질의, 그리고 해당 질의의 패턴을 정의하는 방법을 제안하였다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 세 가지 운율경계정보를 포함한 문맥의존정보를 이용하여 합성음을 생성하고 MOS평가를 수행한 결과 운율경계정보를 이용한 HMM기반 한국어 TTS 합성음의 자연성이 향상됨을 확인하였다.

한국어 자유 발화 음성의 억양 패턴 (Intonation Patterns of Korean Spontaneous Speech)

  • This paper investigates the intonation patterns of Korean spontaneous speech through an analysis of four dialogues in the domain of travel planning. The speech corpus, which is a subset of spontaneous speech database recorded and distributed by ETRI, is labeled in APs and IPs based on K-ToBI system using Momel, an intonation stylization algorithm. It was found that unlike in English, a significant number of APs and IPs include hesitation lengthening, which is known to be a disfluency phenomenon due to speech planning. This paper also claims that the hesitation lengthening is different from the IP-final lengthening and that it should be categorized as a new category, as it greatly affects the intonation patterns of the language. Except for the fact that 19.09% of APs show hesitation lengthening, the spontaneous speech shows the same AP patterns as in read speech with higher frequency of falling patterns such as LHL in comparison with read speech which show more LH and LHLH patterns. The IP boundary tones of spontaneous speech, showing the same five patterns such as L%, HL%, LHL%, H%, LH% as in read speech, show higher frequency of rising patterns (H% and LH%) and contour tones (HL%, LH%, LHL%) while read speech on the contrary shows higher frequency of falling patterns and simple tones at the end of IPs.

  • Results of theoretical investigations on acoustical properties of hydrodynamic proceeding bearings are presented. Nonlinear analysis of rotor bearing system including rotor imbalance is performed in order to obtain acoustical properties of hydrodynamic proceeding bearings. Furthermore, a cavitation algorithm, implementing the Jakobsson-Floberg-Olsson boundary condition, is adopted to predict cavitation regions in a fluid film. Acoustical properties of hydrodynamic proceeding bearings are identified through frequency analysis of pressure fluctuation calculated from the nonlinear transient analysis. The results show that the acoustical frequency spectra of hydrodynamic proceeding bearings are pure tone spectra, containing the frequency of the shaft rotation and its super-harmonics. The analysis also shows that the super-harmonics are predominant at neighborhood of the fluid film reformation and rupture regions.

한국어에서의 공손함을 나타내는 운율적 특성에 관한 연구 (Prosodic Characteristics of Politeness in Korean)

  • This study is a kind of a preliminary study to develop naturalness of dialog TTS system. In this study, as major characteristics of politeness in Korean, temporal(total duration of utterances, speech rate and duration of utterance final syllables) and F0(mean F0, boundary tone pattern, F0 range) features were discussed through acoustic analysis of recorded data of semantically neutral sentences, which were spoken by ten professional voice actors under two conditions of utterance type - namely, normal and polite type. The results show that temporal characteristics were significantly different according to the utterance type but F0 characteristics were not.

전산 공력음향학을 이용한 공력 소음의 가시화 (Visualization of Aerodynamic Noise using Computational Aeroacoustics)

  • In this paper, computational aeroacoustics (CAA) method is used for flow-noise analysis and flow-noise visualization. High order high resolution scheme of optimized high order compact is used to resolve the small acoustic quantities and large flow quantities at the same time. An adaptive nonlinear artificial dissipation model and generalized characteristic boundary condition are also used. Aeolion tone noise, cavity noise, and jet noise are investigated. The visualizations of flow-noise are successful and characteristics of noise are studied. It is observed that the propagation directivity of noise is different with that of flow. With the help of CAA method, the visualization of noise is possible.

The analysis also shows that super-harmonics are predominant at the neighborhood of the fluid film reformation and rupture regions.
