Convective heat transfer in a channel filled with porous media has been analyzed in this paper. The two-equation model is applied for the heat transfer analysis with the velocity profile, considering both the inertia and viscous effects. Based on a theoretical solution, the effect of the velocity profile on the convective heat transfer is investigated in detail. The Nusselt number is obtained in terms of the relevant physical parameters, such as the Biot number for the internal heat exchange, the ratio of effective conductivities between the fluid and solid phases, and hydraulic boundary layer thickness. The results indicate that the influence of the velocity profile is characterized within two regimes according to the two parameters, the Biot number and the conductivity ratio between the phases. The decrease in the heat transfer due to the hydraulic boundary layer thickness is 15% at most within a practical range of the pertinent parameters.

In the present paper, we study the entropy analysis of boundary layer flow over a slender stretching sheet under the action of a non uniform magnetic field that is acting perpendicular to the flow direction. The effects of viscous dissipation and Joule heating are included in the energy equation. Using similarity transformation technique the momentum and thermal boundary layer equations to a system of nonlinear differential equations. Numerical solutions are obtained using the shooting and fourth-order Runge-Kutta method. The expressions for the entropy generation number and Bejan number are also obtained using a suggested similarity transformation. The main objective of this article is to investigate the effects of different governing parameters such as the magnetic parameter ($M^2$), Prandtl number (Pr), Eckert number (Ec), velocity index parameter (m), wall thickness parameter (${\alpha}$), temperature difference parameter (${\Omega}$), entropy generation number (Ns) and Bejan number (Be). All these effects are portrayed graphically and discussed in detail. The analysis reveals that entropy generation reduces with decreasing wall thickness parameter and increasing temperature difference between the stretching sheet and the fluid outside the boundary layer. The viscous and magnetic irreversibilities are dominant in the vicinity of the stretching surface.

The laminar boundary layer along a streamwise corner formed by two flat plates intersecting at right angle is measured by using Particle Image Velocimetry(PIV) technique. The free stream velocity ranges from 2.96m/s to 3.0m/s. The angle of incidence of the corner is set to 1.2 degree providing slightly favourable pressure gradient to ensure a laminar flow in the corner region. A round shape leading edge is used and the length of the model is about 1000mm. In the bisector plane, the measurement data show separation type velocity profiles having an inflection point which is a typical characteristic of laminar corner boundary layers. As the distance away from the bisector plane increases, velocity profiles are found to change into the Blasius profile. The change completes around half length of the boundary layer thickness in the bisector plane away from the bisector plane along the plate. In the bisector plane, the growth characteristic of the boundary layer thickness and the approximate similarity of velocity profiles are confirmed from the measurement data.
The vertical structure of atmosphere was observed In investigate the variation of surface ozone concentration by vertical downward mixing of residual ozone in the atmospheric boundary layer at the Busan coastal area. Airsonde and pilot balloon measurements were made at Gamcheondong and the Kimhae airport for April 26~27, 1996. The vertical potential of potential temperature showed a residual layer between 510m and 1800m from 2100LST April 26 to 0900LST April 27. The downward mixing of ozone in the residual layer of the atmospheric boundary layer was confirmed from vertical profile of mixing ratio near 600m in the morning. The thickness of the sea breeze layer was 900m at 1500LST April 26. Thereafter, it become to be lowered with time A low level jet was measured near 900m at 0300LST on April 27 from a pibal measurement. Early morning sharp increase of surface ozone concentration at the Busan coastal area was caused by vertical downward mixing of ozone concentration rather than by photochemical reaction In the atmospheric boundary layer.

A Compuressible turbulent boundary layer effect of the high temperature, accelerating gas flow through the De-Laval nozzle on combustion chamber pressure is numerically investigated. For this purpose, the coupled momentum integral equation and energy integral equation are solved by the Bartz method, and 1/7 power law for both the turbulent boundary layer velocity distribution and temperature distribution is assumed. As far as the boundary layer thicknesses are concerned, we can obtain reasonable solutions even if relatively simple approximations to the skin friction coefficient and stanton number have been used. The effects of nozzle wall cooling and/or mass flow rate on the boundary layer thicknesses and the combustion chamber pressure are studied. Specifically, negative displacement thickness is appeared as the ratio of the nozzle wall temperature to the stagnation temperature of the free stream decreases, and, consequently, it makes the combustion chamber pressure low.

In this research the effect of bedding layer angle and bedding layer thickness on the shear failure mechanism of concrete has been investigated using PFC3D. For this purpose, firstly calibration of PFC3d was performed using Brazilian tensile strength. Secondly shear test was performed on the bedding layer. Thickness of layers were 5 mm, 10 mm and 20 mm. in each thickness layer, layer angles changes from $0^{\circ}$ to $90^{\circ}$ with increment of $25^{\circ}$. Totally 15 model were simulated and tested by loading rate of 0.016 mm/s. The results shows that when layer angle is less than $50^{\circ}$, tensile cracks initiates between the layers and propagate till coalesce with model boundary. Its trace is too high. With increasing the layer angle, less layer mobilize in failure process. Also the failure trace is very short. It's to be note that number of cracks decrease with increasing the layer thickness. The minimum shear test strength was occurred when layer angle is more than $50^{\circ}$. The maximum value occurred in $0^{\circ}$. Also, the shear test tensile strength was increased by increasing the layer thickness.

A similarity solution of the Navier-Stokes equation for the axisymmetric stagnation flow near a plane wall coated with a magnetic fluid of uniform thickness is constructed. The shape functions representing the flow in two (magnetic and normal) fluid layer are determined from a third order boundary value problem, which is solved by the Runge-Kutta method with two shooting parameters. Features of the flow including streamline pattern and interface velocity are investigated for the varying values of density ratio, viscosity ratio, and Reynolds number. The results for the interface and wall shear stress, boundary layer and displacement thickness are also presented.

A theoretical study for a forced uniform flow impinging on a rotating disk, typically involved in Chemical Vapor Deposition(CVD) and Vapor-phase Axial Deposition(VAD) processes, has been carried out. A set of exact solutions for flow and temperature fields are developed by employing a similarity variable obtained from force balance on a control volume near the disk. The solutions depend on the rotating speed of the disk, .omega., and the forced flow speed toward the disk, a. For constant forced flow speed, the overall boundary layer thickness decreases when the rotating speed increases. Approximately 5%, 15%, and 30% decreases of the thickness are obtained for .omega./a = 2, 5, and 10, respectively, compared to the case of .omega./a = 0 (axisymmetric stagnation point flow). For constant rotating disk speed the boundary layer thickness immediately decreases as the forced flow speed increases, compared to the case of .omega./a .rarw. .inf. (induced flow near a rotating disk). Effects of .omega. and a on heat transfer coefficient are studied and explained with the boundary layer characteristics.
A numerical model is constructed to simulate the interactions of oblique shock wave / turbulent boundary layer on a strongly heated wall. The heated wall temperature is two times higher than the adiabatic wall temperature and the shock wave is strong enough to induce boundary layer separation. The numerical diffusion in the finite volume method is reduced by the use of a higher order convection scheme(UMIST scheme) which is a TVD version of QUICK scheme. The turbulence model is Chen-Kim two time scale model. The comparison of the wall pressure distribution with the experimental data ensures the validity of this numerical model. The effect of strong wall heating enlarges the separation region upstream and downstream. In order to eliminate the separation, wall suction is applied at the shock foot position. The bleeding slot width is about same as the upstream boundary layer thickness and suction mass flow is 10% of the flow rate in the upstream boundary layer. The final configuration of the shock reflection pattern and the wall pressure distribution approach to the non-viscous value when wall suction is applied.
