  • I-V characteristics of a cylindrical target in an ECR plasma were studied for sheath spatial evolutions when the target was pulsed biased to a high negative potential. The magnetic field effects on sheath thickness and sheath boundary speed were investigated by comparison between the experimental results and the theoretical results using the Child-Langmuir sheath model. The results showed that the magnetic field suppressed electron motion away from the target so that sheath thickness and sheath boundary speed decreased.

  • In this paper, a mathematical model for a belt driven system is proposed to analyse the vibtation characteristics of the driving units with belts and the free and forced vibration analyses are carried out. The mathematical model for model for the belt-driven system includes belts, pulleys, spindle and bearings. Using the Hamilton principle, the 4 nonlinear governing equations and the 12 nonlinear boundary conditions are derived. To linearize and discretize the nonlinear govering equations and boundary conditions, the perturbation method and Galerkin method are used. Also, the free vibration analyses for the various parameters of the belt driven system, which are belt tension, belt length, material property of belt, belt speed and pulley mass are made. The forced vibration analyses of the system are made and the dynamic responses for the main parmeters are analysed with the belt driven system.

  • This study analyzed the temperature distribution in DPF with five partitioned electric heaters. The temperature distribution in DPF is an important design factor for regeneration and durability of filter. The design Factors that influence the temperature distribution in DPF there are several. In this study, the characteristics of temperature distribution in DPF were analyzed according to the following changes. First, the thermal conductivity of the filter was analyzed about effect on the durability of the filter. Second, the length from exhaust manifold to inlet of DPF was analyzed about effect on the temperature distribution in DPF. The boundary conditions of analysis has been verified with comparison to the results of existing experimental study and the numerical analysis. Based on the identified boundary condition, on assuming the condition of the actual driving, the temperature distribution in DPF was analyzed according to material properties of filter and the position of DPF.

  • To investigate the aerodynamic characteristics of the on a road vehicle, experimenrs were performed at an Atmospheric Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel. The scaled model of an automobile with 1 : 3 scaling ratio was used. The Reynolds number based on the free stream velocity and model length was $7.93{\times}10^5$. The influence of crosswind to the stability of automobile was investigated by the pressure distribution measurements and flow visualization studies. with the variation of the angle of attack, the change in pressure coefficient depends highly on the flow separation regimes. The experimental and numerical results are compared and found to be in good agreements.

  • This study presents numerical solutions of the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations for supersonic unsteady flow in a convergent-divergent nozzle with heat addition. The TVD scheme in generalized coordinates is employed in order to calculate the moving shock waves caused by thermal choking. We discuss on transient characteristics, start and unstart phenomena, fluctuations of specific thrust caused by thermal choking and viscous effects. We prove that the control of separation of boundary layer is the most important key problem to prevent the thermal choking.

  • Schottky diodes are fabricated on laser annealed and unannealed polysilicon substrate and their electrical characteristics are studied and analyzed. Current of laser annealed devices are larger than that of unannealed devices because of grain growth, decrease of grain boundary and trap density, lowering of grain boundary barrier height, decrease of dopant segregation. At low forward bias (<0.7V), currents of unanealed devices are larger. Soft breakdown voltages of laser annealed devices are larger than that of unannealed devices.

  • Over the last decade substantial improvements have been made in our ability to observe the tropical cyclone boundary layer. Low-level wind speed maxima have been frequently observed in Global Positioning System dropwindsonde (GPS sonde) profiles. Data from GPS sondes and coastal Doppler radars were employed to evaluate the characteristics of tropical cyclone vertical wind profiles in open ocean conditions and at landfall. Changes to the mean vertical wind profile were observed azimuthally and with decreasing radial distance toward the cyclone center. Wind profiles within the hurricane boundary layer exhibited a logarithmic increase with height up to the depth of the wind maximum.

  • Composite materials have various complicated characteristics depending on the ply materials, ply orientations, ply stacking sequences and boundary conditions. Therefore, it is difficult to analyze composite materials. For efficient use of composite materials in engineering applications, the dynamic behavior such as natural frequencies and nodal patterns should be identified. This study presents FEM results for the free vibration of symmetrically and antisymmetrically laminated composite and hybrid composite rectangular plates. The natural frequencies of laminated composite rectangular plates having the various boundary conditions (completely clamped, 2-edge clamped, cantilevered) are experimentally obtained. In order to demonstrate the validity of the experiment, FEM analysis using ANSYS was performed and natural frequencies experimentally obtained is compared with that calculated by FEM analysis. The results obtained from both experiment and FEM analysis show a good agreement.

  • The ship wave phenomena in the restricted waterway were investigated by a numerical analysis. The Euler and continuity equations were employed for the present study. The boundary fitted and moving grid system was adopted to enhance the computational efficiency. The convective terms in the governing equations and the kinematic free surface boundary condition were solved by the Constrained Interpolated Profile (CIP) algorithm in order to solve accurately wave heights in far field as well as near field. The advantage of the CIP method was verified by the comparison of the computed results by the CIP and the Maker and Cell (MAC) method. The free surface flow simulation around Wigley hull was performed and compared with the experiment for the sake of the validation of the numerical method. The present numerical scheme was applied to the free surface simulation for various canal sections in order to understand the effect of the sectional shape of waterways on the ship waves. The wave heights on the side wall and the shape of the wave patterns with their characteristics of flow are discussed.
