  • Turbulent boundary layer noise is already a significant contributor to sonar self noise. For developing acoustic window of sonar system to reduce self noise, a parametric study of design factors of acoustic window is presented. Distance of sensor array from acoustic window, materials of acoustic window and characteristics of damping layer are studied as design factors to influence in the characteristics of the transfer function of self noise. As the result, these design factors make change the characteristics of transfer function slightly. Among design factors the location of sensor array is most important parameter in the self noise reduction

  • The two-dimensional circular cylinder freely falling in a channel has been simulated by using Immersed boundary - lattice Boltzmann method in order to analyze the characteristics of motion originated by the interaction between the fluid and the solid. The wide range of the solid/fluid density ratio has been considered to identify the effect of the solid/fluid density ratio on the motion characteristics such as the falling time, the terminal velocity and the trajectory in the vertical and horizontal directions. In addition, the effect of the gap between the cylinder and the wall on the motion of two-dimensional circular cylinder freely falling has been revealed by taking into account a various range of the gap size. The Reynolds number in terms of the terminal velocity is diminished as the cylinder becomes close to the wall at the initial dropping position, since the repulsive force induced between the cylinder and wall constrains the vertical motion. Quantitative information about the flow variables such as the pressure coefficient and vorticity on the cylinders is highlighted.

  • The objective of this study is to approach on the spatial boundary of rural development protect by areal classification technique with spatial reference to searching of areal homogeneities in two hierachial administrative units, Ri Eup/Myun. In this study, a criterion for judging areal homogeneities is the degree of agriculture and urbanizing. Variables selected by these two criteria are analysed with the method of fator analysis. The results of areal analysis are as follows: first, generally, the importance of agricultural factors in areal analysis is getting less. Second, areal classification by Myun, Ri in Ansong City is revealed variously because of urban factors. Urban factors make areal heterogeneities become greater, Therefore urban factors are important when analyzing areal characteristics. Third, lately, in areas near by Chung- cheong Do and areas with bad road's condition, areal heterogeneities have been also getting greater. The results of analysis about areal characteristics of Myun and Ri are different from each other. In addition, urban factors are more influential on the areal characteristics than agricultural factors. Therefore, the establishment of rural development project for inindle spatial boundary between Myun unit and Ri unit is needed.

  • Characgcteristics of nocturnal boundary layer(NBL) were analyzed by the upper-air observations data using with the airsonde and pilot balloons from 1994 to 1999 in Kyungpook province. The automate weather boundary layer can become stably stratified when the surface is cooler than the air. Stable nocturnal boundary layer height were estimated from the top of surface stable layer where the vertical gradient of temperature and mixing ratio tend to zero or negative. The depth of the stable nocturnal boundary layer depended largely on the thermal effect rather than the wind effect at nighttime. The NBL was more developed on the land than on the coastal region. The stability index (bulk Richardson number) showed that the NBL was stable when the wind was weak and the vertical gradient of the temperature was strong. The heat budget in the NBL was studied by considering the effect of the radiative and the cooled by both the longwave radiative flux and the divergence of the heat flux, while NBL under the cloudy sky the longwave radiative flux played a role of the warming. It was noted that the heat was not conserved in both cases. To complete the heat budget in the NBL the warming/cooling by advection and subsidence must be considered.

  • The hydrodynamic instability of the three-dimensional boundary-layer over a rotating disk has been numerically investigated for these flows; Ro = -1, -0.5, and 0, using linear stability theory. Detailed numerical values of the disturbance wave number. wave frequency. azimuth angle. radius (Reynolds number, Re) and other characteristics have been calculated for the pre-swirl flows. On the basis of Ekman and Karman boundary layer theory, the instability of the pre-swirl flows have been investigated for the unstable criteria. The disturbance will be relatively fast amplified at small fe and within wide bands of wave number compared with previously known Karman boundary-layer results. The flow (Ro =-0.5) is found to be always stable for a disturbance whose dimensionless wave number is greater than 0.9. It has a larger range of unstable interval than Karman boundary layer and can be unstable at smaller Re.

  • Direct numerical simulation (DNS) of a turbulent boundary layer with moderate Reynolds number was performed to scrutinize streamwise-coherence of hairpin packet motions. The Reynolds number based on the momentum thickness (${\theta}_{in}$) and free-stream velocity (U${\infty}$) was varied in the range $Re_{\theta}$=1410${\sim}$2540 which was higher than the previous numerical simulations in the turbulent boundary layer. In order to include the groups of hairpin packets existing in the outer layer, large computational domain was used (more than 50${\delta}_o$, where ${\theta}_o$ is the boundary layer thickness at the inlet in the streamwise domain). Characteristics of packet motions were investigated by using instantaneous flow fields, two-point correlation and conditional average flow fields in xy-plane. The present results showed that a train of hairpin packet motions was propagating coherently along the downstream and these structures induced the very large-scale motions in the turbulent boundary layer.

  • A new cross disciplinary conception of transitional aero-optics is built up during analyzing and measuring the linkage between the hypersonic boundary layer transition on a flat plate and the jittering characteristics of the small-aperture beam through that boundary layer. Based on that conception, the Small-Aperture Beam Technique (SABT) and high-speed Imaging Camera System (ICS) used in aero-optical studies are considered as new techniques for the assessment of the hypersonic transition in the boundary layer on a flat plate. In the FD-20 gun tunnel, for the free stream parameters with Mach number of 8 and unit Reynolds number of $1{\times}10^7$ (1/m), those two optical techniques are used to measure the jitter of the small-aperture beam. At the same free stream parameters, the distribution of the heat transfer along the centerline of the flat plate is also measured by the thin film resistance gauge technique. The results show the similarity of the increase trend between the heat transfer and the jitter of the small-aperture beam in the transitional region. It helps us to surmise that it may be feasible to diagnose the transition in a hypersonic boundary layer on a flat plate by means of those above optical techniques.

  • An experimental study was carried out in order to investigate the influence of flow conditions on a boundary layer in the near-wake of a flat plate. The flow conditions in the vicinity of the trailing edge that is influenced by upstream condition history are an essential factor that determines the physical characteristics of a near-wake. Tripping wires attached at various positions were selected to change flow conditions of a boundary layer. The flows such as laminar, transitional, and turbulent boundary layer at 0.98C from the leading edge are imposed in order to investigate the evolution of symmetric and asymmetric wake. An x-type hot-wire probe(55P61) is employed to measure at 8 stations in the near-wake. Test results show that the near-wake for the case of a turbulent boundary layer is relatively insensitive to instability after separating at the trailing edge, and Reynolds shear stress in the near-wake for the case of a turbulent boundary layer collapses due to turbulent kinetic energy.

  • Large Eddy Simulation (LES) has been popularly applied and used in the last several decades to simulate turbulent boundary layer in the numerical domain. A fully developed turbulent boundary layer has also been applied to predict the complicated wake flow behind bluff bodies. In this study we aimed to generate an artificial turbulent boundary layer, which is based on an exponential correlation function, and generates a series of realistic three-dimensional velocity data in two-dimensional inlet section which are correlated both in space and in time. The results suggest its excellent capability for high Reynolds number flows. To make an effective generation, a hexahedral mesh has been used and Cholesky decomposition was applied to possess suitable turbulent statistics such as the randomness and correlation of turbulent flow. As a result, the flow characteristics in the domain and fluctuating pressure near the wall are very close to those of fully developed turbulent boundary layers.

  • Considering that different boundary conditions can have an important impact on structural vibration characteristics. In this paper, the nonlinear forced vibration behavior of functionally graded material (FGM) doubly curved shells with initial geometric imperfections under different boundary conditions is studied. Considering initial geometric imperfections and von Karman geometric nonlinearity, the nonlinear governing equations of FGM doubly curved shells are derived using Reissner's first order shear deformation (FOSD) theory. Three different boundary conditions of four edges simply supported (SSSS), four edges clamped (CCCC), clamped-clamped-simply-simply (CCSS) were studied, and a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations was obtained with the help of Galerkin principle. The nonlinear forced vibration response of the FGM doubly curved shell is obtained by using the modified Lindstedt Poincare (MLP) method. The accuracy of this method was verified by comparing it with published literature. Finally, the effects of curvature ratio, power law index, void coefficient, prestress, and initial geometric imperfections on the resonance of FGM doubly curved shells under different boundary conditions are fully discussed. The relevant research results can provide certain guidance for the design and application of doubly curved shell.
