The purpose of this study was to obtain some informations for the radiographic differential diagnosis between odontogenic keratocyst and unicystic ameloblastoma in the mandible. The author compared and analysed the clinico-radiographic features of 48 cases of odontogenic keratocyst and 32 cases of unicystic ameloblastoma. The obtained results were as follows : 1. Odontogenic keratocyst and unicystic ameloblastoma occurred the most frequently in the 2nd and 3rd decades, and both lesions occurred with slight predilection in males. The most frequent lesional site was molar area in odontogenic keratocyst(50.0%) and mandibular angle and ramus area in unicystic amelobla-stoma(71.9%). 2. Cortical thinning and expansion were observed with similar occurrences in odontogenic keratocyst(77.l%) and in unicystic ameloblastoma(72.9%). 3. Typical undulating lesional border was observed more frequently in odontogenic keratocyst(79.2%) than in unicystic ameloblastoma(46.9%). 4. Well-defined lesional outline occurred more frequently in odontogenic keratocyst(97.9%) than in unicystic ameloblastoma(53.1%). 5. Root resorption of adjacent teeth occurred more frequently in unicystic ameloblastoma(65.2%) than in odontogenic keratocyst(18.8%) respectively, but loss of lamina dura was frequently observed in odontogenic keratocyst(79.2%). And tooth displacement occurred more frequently in odontogenic keratocyst(50.0%) than in unicystic ameloblastoma(17.4%). 6. Displacement of mandibular canal occurred more frequently in odontogenic keratocyst(75.0%) than in unicystic ameloblastoma(61.5%). 7. Inhomogeneous lesional radiolucency occurred more frequently in unicystic ameloblastoma(53.l%) than in odontogenic keratocyst(39.6%).
Thymolipoma is extremely uncommon benign mediastinal tumor consisting of fatty and thymic tissue. Only 50 verified cases have been reported in the world literatures. This one case is the first reported example of surgically treated thymolipoma associated with spontaneous pneumothorax. A thirty-two year old male patient had been in good health until two days prior to admission, when he noted sudden dyspnea associated with an aching pain over the left precordium. The dyspnea and chest pain had become progressively worse. The physical examination revealed that left hemithorax was tympanic sound on percussion and absence of breathing sound on auscultation and point of maximal impulse was located on the 4th intercostal space at the left sternal border. Emergency closed thoracostomy was performed under the impression of tension type spontaneous pneumothorax of the left lung. After closed thoracostomy, point of maximal impulse was not changed inspire of full expansion of the left lung and chest X-ray was strongly suggested pericardial effusion or cardiomegaly which couldn`t account for by clinical course and hemodynamic evidence. EKG, echocardiogram, bronchofiberoscophy, bronchogram and diagnostic thoracentesis was performed. On Dec. 8, 1980, operation was performed under the impression of mediastinal tumor in the anterior mediastinum. At left posterolateral thoractomy, a large fatty mass, measuring 35 x 27 x 13 Cm in dimension and weighing 3350 gm, was resected and multiple bullae on the apicoposterior segment of the left upper lobe was resected and continuously sutured. The pathologic diagnosis of the fatty mass was thymolipoma. The postoperative course was uneventful and discharged in good general conditions.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to characterize the cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) imaging features of central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) of the jawbone. Materials and Methods: This study retrospectively reviewed 26 CBCT studies of histologically proven cases of CGCG during a period of 20 years, from 1999 to 2019. Patients' demographic data were recorded, and radiographic features were assessed (location, border, cortication, appearance of the internal structure, locularity, septation, expansion, cortical perforation, effects on surrounding tissue, whether the lesion crossed the midline, and lesion volume). Results: In this study, CGCGs were seen almost twice as often in the mandible than in the maxilla, and 64.7% of mandibular lesions involved the anterior region. Only 26.9% of lesions crossed the midline, a feature that was considered characteristic of CGCG. Furthermore, 65.4% of lesions were unilocular and 34.6% were multilocular. The correlation between a lesion's size and its locularity was statistically significant, and larger lesions showed a multilocular appearance. The mean volume of multilocular lesions was greater than that of unilocular lesions. Conclusion: CGCGs showed variable radiographic features on CBCT, and this imaging modality is highly effective at demonstrating the radiographic spectrum and lesional extent of CGCGs in the jawbone.
The Rosette Nebula is the most actively star-forming region in the Monoceros OB2 association. This region hosts more than three stellar groups, including the most populous group NGC 2244 at the center of the region and the smaller stellar groups around the border of the H II bubble. To trace their formation process, we investigate the kinematic properties of these groups using the Gaia astrometric data and high-resolution spectra taken from observation with Hectochelle on MMT. The proper motions of stars in NGC 2244 show a pattern of radial expansion. The signature of cluster rotation is also detected from their radial velocities. On the other hand, the small groups appear to be physically associated with some clouds at the ridge of the H II region. Among them, the group near the eastern pillar-like gas structure shows the signature of feedback-driven star formation. In this presentation, we will further discuss the formation process and dynamical evolution of the stellar groups in the Rosette Nebula, based on the observation and results of N-body simulations.
Purpose : To evaluate clinical and radiographic differential diagnosis between ameloblastoma and odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) using clinical data, plain radiographs, and CT. Materials and Methods: 25 cases of ameloblastoma and 44 cases of OKC diagnosed in biopsy, were selected from the files stored in Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Seoul National University Dental Hospital from 1999 to 2001, and evaluated using following criteria: sex and age, location, shape, border to normal bone tissue, effect to adjacent tissues, homogeneity in the lumen of the lesion, response of the cortical bone, long-to-short length (LIS) ratio of the lesion, and expansion angle of the cortex. Results: Ameloblastoma and OKC were seen most frequently in third decades and no statistical significance was noted between both sexes. Ameloblastoma occurred most frequently in mandibular angle and ramus area (68%) and OKC at the maxillary molar (34.1 %), and mandibular angle and ramus area (43.2%). The root resorption of the adjacent teeth, mandibular canal displacement, and the impaction of teeth were seen more frequently in ameloblastoma than in OKC. The LIS ratio measured in CT was largest in maxillary OKC cases, followed by mandibular ameloblastoma, and mandibular OKC (1.2, 1.8 and 2.4 respectively). The expansion angle of the cortex shows a statistically significant difference between ameloblastoma (48.8°) and OKC (31.5°). Conclusion : The numeric morphology (LIS ratio) and expansion angle of the cortical bone of the lesion measured in computed tomography can be used to differentiate the ameloblastoma and odontogenic keratocyst.
The purpose of this article is to critically read Globalizing Borderlands Studies in Europe and North America to examine trends in border studies conducted so far in Europe and North America and to discuss the expandability and limitations of the narrative. It introduces a variety of case studies covering the borderlands of Europe and North America from ancient to modern times. It consists of a total of 10 chapters, in addition to the introduction chapter to clarify the purpose and definition of the collaboration and the short conclusion chapter on the prospects for the future of borderlands studies. This volume has some important implications for current borderland research in two main respects. First, it can introduce us we the areas and targets that the leading researchers from European and North American academia (usually the United States') have paid attention to. It also examines the current status of borderland research and predicts whether it will be possible to study various border areas where exist in other regions (especially in Asia) based on accumulating academic achievements, as well as the possibility of expansion of so-called 'globalization'. Second, it introduces the borderland as a conceptual space, beyond the border area as a physical space that is commonly thought of when it comes to 'border'. Cases of "conceptual borderlands" can be applied to a number of topics ranging from an individual's identities to the methods of governance, religions, economies, social institutions, families, labor issues, public health services and gender issues. There are, however, also some questions to be noted in the volume: the lack of consistent use of terminology, which can be considered general problems of collaboration studies; the fact that the authors still tend to understand borderlands within the imperialist discourse, perhaps because of their academic background is situated mainly in Europe and North America; the borderlands cases described here as the areas of conflict and struggle only. Nevertheless, the book is of significance in that it suggests a possibility of various borderlands studies and helps us to have better understanding of the current geopolitical situation imposed on the Korean Peninsula, which is located on the borderland between the continental and maritime powers.
This study was investigated to find out the change of reproductive and histological biomarkers of Ruditapes philippinarum exposed to nonylphenol (NP). Experimental period was 16 weeks. Experimental groups were composed of one control condition and three NP exposure conditions (0.05, 0.1, $0.2 mg\;NP\;L^{-1}$). Gonad index was higher in exposure group than control in female and higher in control than exposure group in male. Intersexuality in the NP exposure group was 14.56% with male exhibiting higher ratio than female. Histological analysis of organ system illustrated expansion of hemolymph sinus, loss of striated border of inner epidermis and degeneration of mucous cell in the mantle. In the gill partially disappearance of frontal and lateral cilia, degeneration of mucous cell were observed. Also, hyperplasia of epithelium and disappearance of striated border were observed in the foot. As the concentration of NP increased, the accumulation of lipofuscin increased in the digestive gland. The results of this study suggest that NP induces reduction of survival rate, histopathology and intersex of R. philippinarum. Furthermore, it is indentified that NP functions as an estrogenic effector on the reproduction of R. philippinarum.
In the 1990s, when the viewpoint that an ecosystem is a single network within a specific region was adopted, the preservation and management of natural ecosystems was proposed. With regard to Northeast Asia, the expansion of trans-boundary pollution due to rapid development and the swift destruction of the natural environment emphasize the necessity for environmental cooperation. The Northeast Asia region made up of South Korea, North Korea, three northeastern prefectures in China, the Russian far-east, and parts of Mongolia were selected to be analyzed for an ecological network. The significance of this study lies in the development of a methodology for building a Northeast Asian ecological network through the use of satellite images. Regarding the methods of analysis, stable habitats for four priority species were selected to be performed using overlay analysis. The result of the analysis of the ecological networks in the whole Northeast Asia region showed that there were key areas partly dispersed in the Korean Peninsula, but whether the key areas would be maintained in the long term is unknown. As for China, key areas were concentrated in the border areas around the Tumen River and in parts of the three northeastern prefectures. Russia had wide-ranging areas that could function as stable habitats for most species. As a result of the actual conditions of the ecological networks, most of the Northeast Asia region, including the Korean Peninsula, was in poor condition, requiring appropriate measures and their operation as soon as possible. Also, it was revealed that further investigation and research was necessary for border areas that were identified to be key areas.

This study was conducted to find out survival rate, activity, growth and change of the organ structure of bivalves exposed to heavy metal. The results of the study confirmed that zinc (Zn) induces reduction of survival rate and activity, abnormality of organ structure of the equilateral venus, Gomphina veneriformis. Experimental groups were composed of one control condition and three Zn exposure conditions ($0.64mg\;Zn{\iota}^{1},\;1.07mg\;Zn{\iota}^{-1},\;1.79mg\;Zn{\iota}^{-1}$). As the concentration of zinc increased the accumulation of lipofucin increased in the digestive gland. Survival rate was the lowest in the lowest Zn exposure group at $0.64mg;Zn{\iota}^{-1}$. Growth was not significantly different between the control and exposure group. Activity. with the exception of the lowest Zn exposure group at $0.64mg\;Zn{\iota}^{-1}$, was similar between the control and exposure group. Histological analysis of organ system illustrated expansion of hemolymph sinus, loss of striated border of inner epidermis, increase in the number of mucous cell in the mantle. Also, histological degenerations as epithelial necrosis and hyperplasia of mucous cells are recognized in the gill and foot.
