  • This paper presented an experimental study of the bond-slip behavior of reactive powder concrete (RPC)-filled square steel tube. A total of 18 short composite specimens were designed forstatic push-out test, and information on their failure patterns, load-slip behavior and bond strength was presented. The effects of width-to-thickness ratio, height-to-width ratio and the compressive strength of RPC on the bond behavior were discussed. The experimental results show that:(1) the push-out specimens remain intact and no visible local buckling appears on the steel tube, and the interfacial scratches are even more pronounced at the internal steel tube of loading end; (2) the bond load-slip curves with different width-to-thickness ratios can be divided into two types, and the main difference is whether the curves have a drop in load with increasing slip; (3) the bond strength decreases with the increase of the width-to-thickness ratio and height-width ratio, while the influence of RPC strength is not consistent; (4) the slippage has no definite correlation with bond strength and the influence of designed parameters on slippage is not evident. On the basis of the above analysis, the expressions of interface friction stress and mechanical interaction stress are determined by neglecting chemical adhesive force, and the calculation model of bond strength for RPC filled in square steel tube specimens is proposed. The theoretical results agree well with the experimental data.

  • To date, many studies have been conducted for the analysis and design of reinforced concrete members with disturbed regions. However, prestressed concrete deep beams have not been the subject of many investigations. This paper presents an evaluation of the behavior and strength of three pre-tensioned concrete deep beams failed by shear and bond slip of prestressing strands using a nonlinear strut-tie model approach. In this approach, effective prestressing forces represented by equivalent external loads are gradually introduced along strand's transfer length in the nearest strut-tie model joints, the friction at the interface of main diagonal shear cracks is modeled by the aggregate interlock struts along the direction of the cracks in strut-tie model, and an algorithm considering the effect of bond slip of prestressing strands in the strut-tie model analysis and design of pre-tensioned concrete members is implemented. Through the strut-tie model analysis of pre-tensioned concrete deep beams, the nonlinear strut-tie model approach proved to present effective solutions for predicting the essential aspects of the behavior and strength of pre-tensioned concrete deep beams. The nonlinear strut-tie model approach is capable of predicting the strength and failure modes of pre-tensioned concrete deep beams including the anchorage failure of prestressing strands and, accordingly, can be employed in the practical and precise design of pre-tensioned concrete deep beams.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the analytical model for the reinforcement bar connection in group-filled steel pipe sleeve, which consists of beam elements for the reinforcement bar and shell elements for the sleeve and the mortar and spring elements for the bond stress-slip relationship. In the reinforcement bar connection using grout-filled steel pipe sleeve, the major variables are the bond stiffness between reinforcement bar and mortar($K_1$) and between sleeve and mortar($K_2$). It is nearly difficult to predict the exact bond stiffness with the experimental results. Therefore, The linearly elastic analyses using ABAQUS, FEM package show the validity of the mathematical equations for the bond stiffness and the choice of material elements in this paper. To predict the behaviour between yield and ultimate tensile strength, the nonlinear analyses must be performed henceforth.

  • The confinement of concrete from splitting bond failure is studied with the experiments and finite element models. The cracks in the test beam-end specimens containing various covers show a typical splitting failure with a dominant fracture surface. The finite element model includes representation of the splitting cracking using Hillerborg's fictitious crack model. The increase in bond strength from addition of covers are consistant for both test bars and numerical models. The numerical solution agrees well with results and also with the test results and also with the empirical equations. The splitting crack in the numerical models generally matches the crack surface observed in the laboratory. The confinement of concrete from splitting is one of the governing factors in the ultimate bond force.

  • In order to catch out such Bond Strength, the preceding researchers had ever examined the Bond Strength of FRP Plate through their experimentations by setting up of various fluent. However, since the experiment for research on such Bond Strength takes much of expenditure for equipment structure and time-consuming, also difficult to carry out, it is conducting limitedly. This Study purposes to develop the most suitable Artificial Neural Network Model by application of various Neural Network Model and Algorithm to the adhering experiment data of the preceding researchers. Output Layer of Artificial Neural Network Model, and Input Layer of Bond Strength were performed the learning by selection as the variable of the thickness, width, adhered length, the modulus of elasticity, tensile strength, and the compressive strength of concrete, tensile strength, width, respectively. The developed Artificial Neural Network Model has applied Back-Propagation, and its error was learnt to be converged within the range of 0.001. Besides, the process for generalization has dissolved the problem of Over-Fitting in the way of more generalized method by introduction of Bayesian Technique. The verification on the developed Model was executed by comparison with the resulted value of Bond Strength made by the other preceding researchers which was never been utilized to the learning as yet.

  • In this work the Multi-Domain model of an electric vehicle is developed. The electric domain model consists on the traction drive and allows including faults associated with stator winding. The thermal model is based on a spatial discretization. It receives the power dissipated in the electric domain, it interacts with the environment and provides the temperature distribution in the induction motor. The mechanical model is a half vehicle model. Given that all models are obtained using the same approach (Bond Graph) their integration becomes straightforward. This complete model allows simulating the whole system dynamics and the analysis of electrical/mechanical/thermal interaction. First, experimental results are aimed to validate the proposed model. Then, simulation results illustrate the interaction between the different domains and highlight the capability of including faults.

  • An improved numerical model for non-linear analysis of reinforced concrete (RC) slabs subjected to blast loading is proposed. This approach considers a strain rate dependent orthotropic constitutive model that directly determines the stress state using the stress-strain relation acquired from the data obtained using the biaxial strength envelope. Moreover, the bond-slip between concrete and reinforcing steel is gradually enlarged after the occurrence of cracks and is concentrated in the plastic hinge region. The bond-slip model is introduced to consider the crack direction of the concrete under a biaxial stress state. Correlation studies between the numerical analysis and the experimental results were performed to evaluate the analytical model. The results show that the proposed model can effectively be used in dynamic analyses of reinforced concrete slab members subjected to explosive loading. Moreover, it was determined that it is important to consider biaxial behavior in the material model and the bond-slip effect.

  • Fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) is a composite material where small fibers made from steel or polypropylene or similar material are embedded into concrete matrix. In a material model each constituent should be adequately described, especially the interface between the matrix and fibers that is determined with the 'bond-slip' law. 'Bond-slip' law describes relation between the force in a fiber and its displacement. Bond-slip relation is usually obtained from tension laboratory experiments where a fiber is pulled out from a matrix (concrete) block. However, theoretically bond-slip relation could be determined from bending experiments since in bending the fibers in FRC get pulled-out from the concrete matrix. We have performed specially designed laboratory experiments of three-point beam bending with an intention of using experimental data for determination of material parameters. In addition, we have formulated simple layered model for description of the behavior of beams in the three-point bending test. It is not possible to use this 'forward' beam model for extraction of material parameters so an inverse model has been devised. This model is a basis for formulation of an inverse model that could be used for parameter extraction from laboratory tests. The key assumption in the developed inverse solution procedure is that some values in the formulation are known and comprised in the experimental data. The procedure includes measured data and its derivative, the formulation is nonlinear and solution is obtained from an iterative procedure. The proposed method is numerically validated in the example at the end of the paper and it is demonstrated that material parameters could be successfully recovered from measured data.

  • In pretensioned concrete structures, bond between prestressing steel and concrete is an essential component to ensure the integrity of a pretensioned member. The anchorage and development of the prestressing force depend exclusively on bond. The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of bond and development length between pretensioned steel and concrete. To resolve the controversy over the adequacy of the current code provision on development length of prestressing strands, a comprehensive test program has been scheduled and twenty four rectangular prestressed concrete beams have been tested to determine development length. Major test variables include diameter of strands (12.7mm, 15.2mm) and concrete covers (3cm, 4cm, 5cm). The test results indicate that the development length based on the bond stress-slip relation. The proposed model can evaluate realistically the development length of pretensioned prestressed concrete members and can be the good basis for the future basis of code equations on development length of PSC members.
