This study was to compare the tensile bond strength and flexibility of four different soft liners(Coe-Soft, Soft Relining, Soft-Liner, Dura Base Soft) before & after thermocycling. Each soft liner was bonded to denture base resin block, and measured the tensile bond strength and modulus of elasticity using Universal testing machine. The mean value of tensile bond strength and modulus of elasticity for each experimental groups were statistically processed by SPSS(Statistical Package of Social Science). The obtained results were as follows : 1. Dura Base Soft had the highest tensile bond strength and Coe-Soft had the lowest tensile bond strength. 2. Coe-Soft had the lowest modulus of elasticity, and Dura Base Soft had the highest modulus of elasticity. 3. Thermocycling had no effects on the tensile bond strength and modulus of elasticity of all the soft liners. 4. The failure modes of Coe-Soft, Soft Relining, Soft Liner were mainly cohesive failure, and that of Dura Base Soft were mainly adhesive failure.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of nano-structured alumina surface coating on shear bond strength between Y-TZP ceramic and various dual-cured resin cements. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A total of 90 disk-shaped zirconia specimens (HASS CO., Gangneung, Korea) were divided into three groups by surface treatment method: (1) airborne particle abrasion, (2) tribochemicalsilica coating, and (3) nano-structured alumina coating. Each group was categorized into three subgroups of ten specimens and bonded with three different types of dual-cured resin cements. After thermocycling, shear bond strength was measured and failure modes were observed through FE-SEM. Two-way ANOVA and the Tukey's HSD test were performed to determine the effects of surface treatment method and type of cement on bond strength (P<.05). To confirm the correlation of surface treatment and failure mode, the Chi-square test was used. RESULTS. Groups treated with the nano-structured alumina coating showed significantly higher shear bond strength compared to other groups treated with airborne particle abrasion or tribochemical silica coating. Clearfil SA Luting showed a significantly higher shear bond strength compared to RelyX ARC and RelyX Unicem. The cohesive failure mode was observed to be dominant in the groups treated with nano-structured alumina coating, while the adhesive failure mode was prevalent in the groups treated with either airborne particle abrasion or tribochemical silica coating. CONCLUSION. Nano-structured alumina coating is an effective zirconia surface treatment method for enhancing the bond strength between Y-TZP ceramic and various dual-cured resin cements.
In this paper, an experimental investigation of bond properties between steel fiber reinforced concrete and glass fiber reinforced polymer reinforcements was performed. The experimental variables were diameter of reinforcements, volume fraction of steel fiber, cover thickness and compressive strength of concrete. Bond failure mainly occurred with splitting of concrete cover. Main factor for splitting of concrete is tension force occurred by the displacement difference between reinforcements and concrete. Therefore, in order to prevent the bond failure between reinforcements and concrete, capacity of tensile strength of concrete cover should be upgraded. As a results of test, volume fraction of steel fiber significantly increases the bond strength. Cover thickness changes the failure mode. Diameter of reinforcements also changes the failure mode. Generally, diameter of reinforcement also affects the bond properties but this effect is not significant as volume fraction of fiber. Increase of compressive strength increases the bond strength between concrete and reinforcement because compressive strength of concrete directly affects the tensile strength of concrete.
PURPOSE. The bond strengths between resin denture teeth with various compositions and denture base resins including conventional and CAD/CAM purposed materials were evaluated to find influence of each material. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Cylindrical rods (6.0 mm diameter × 8.0 mm length) prepared from pre-polymerized CAD/CAM denture base resin blocks (PMMA Block-pink; Huge Dental Material, Vipi Block-Pink; Vipi Industria) were bonded to the basal surface of resin teeth from three different companies (VITA MFT®; VITA Zahnfabrik, Endura Posterio®; SHOFU Dental, Duracross Physio®; Nissin Dental Products Inc.) using resin cement (Super-Bond C&B; SUN MEDICAL). As a control group, rods from a conventional heat-polymerizing denture base resin (Vertex™ Rapid Simplified; Vertex-Dental B.V. Co.) were attached to the resin teeth using the conventional flasking and curing method. Furthermore, the effect of air abrasion was studied with the highly cross-linked resin teeth (VITA MFT®) groups. The shear bond strengths were measured, and then the fractured surfaces were examined to analyze the mode of failure. RESULTS. The shear bond strengths of the conventional heat-polymerizing PMMA denture resin group and the CAD/CAM denture base resin groups were similar. Air abrasion to VITA MFT® did not improve shear bond strengths. Interfacial failure was the dominant cause of failure for all specimens. CONCLUSION. Shear bond strengths of CAD/CAM denture base materials and resin denture teeth using resin cement are comparable to those of conventional methods.

In this study, ultrasonic power of Aluminum wire bonder, bond time and bond force are investigated and valued in order to minimize failure of bonding pad lift. We also tried to control those 3 factors properly. We got the conclusion that if we turn down the ability of ultrasonic power or bond time, we can get a pad lift from a boundary between bond pad ad wire because pad metal and wire joining is unstable, but it is best condition when it ultrasonic power is 100∼130unit, bond time is 15∼20msec and bond force is 4∼6gf.

Numerous factors are known to affect the accuracy of elastomeric impression materials. Factor often overlooked is the quality of the bond between putty and wash during corrective reline impression technique. The putty-wash bond strength must be strong enough to over-come the local stress at putty-wash interface. It is not always possible to avoid saliva contamination in making corrective wash impres-sion. And putty preliminary impression material con be used as a template for provisional restoration. Human saliva and the residual monomer of autopolymerizing acrylic resin are thought to affect the bond strength and the failure type. This study examined the effect of contaminants like human saliva, and residual resin monomer on the putty-wash bond strength and the effectiveness of treatment. 1. Of the tested three brands of Vinyl Polysiloxane impession meterial, Express Exhibited the greatest bond strength followed by Eamix and Perfect showed the lowest putty-wah bond strength. 2. Coating the putty substrates with human saliva did not produce decreased failure load in all the breands of Vinyl Polysiloxane impression meterail. 3. Of the three brands of VPS impression material that were exposed to methhylmethacry-late resin(Jet), only the putty-wash bond strength of the Perfect group diminished signifi-cantly. Moreover, all the specimens from group C of Perfect exhibited adhesive failure. 4. Exposing the substrates to ethylmethacrylate resin(SNAP. diminished the putty-wash bond strength significantly. With Perfect and Examix, failure occurred cohesively through the light-body, whereas with Express, failure occurred adhesive-cohesively. 5. Removing approximately 1mm thickness of the contaminated putty interface was the most effective treatment in countering the undesirable effect caused by residual resin monomer. The putty-wash bond strength of the groups that were treated with 1mm even putty reduction was not significantly different from those of control groups. With Perfect and Examix, cleaning the specimens with gauze soaked in 70% isopropyl alcohol increased the putty-wash bond strength, but was not as effective as 1mm even reduction of contaminated putty substrates. With Express, 70% isoproryl alcohol treatment exhibi0ted comparable putty-wash bond strength to that of control group.
PURPOSE. This in vitro study investigated the repair bond strength of the zirconia ceramic after different aging conditions. MATERIALS AND METHODS. In order to imitate the failure modes of veneered zirconia restorations, veneer ceramic, zirconia, and veneer ceramic-zirconia specimens were prepared and were divided into 4 subgroups as: control ($37^{\circ}C$ distilled water for 24 hours ) and 3000, 6000, 12000 thermal cycling groups (n=15). Then, specimens were bonded to composite resin using a porcelain repair kit according to the manufacturer recommendation. The repair bond strength (RBS) test was performed using a universal testing machine (0.5 mm/min). Failure types were analyzed under a stereomicroscope. Two-way ANOVA and Bonferroni test were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS. The RBS values of zirconia specimens were statistically significant and higher than veneer ceramic and veneer ceramic-zirconia specimens in control, 3000 and 6000 thermal cycling groups (P<.05). When 12000 thermal cycles were applied, the highest value was found in zirconia specimens but there was no statistically significant difference between veneer ceramic and veneer ceramic-zirconia specimens (P>.05). Veneer ceramic specimens exhibited cohesive failure types, zirconia specimens exhibited adhesive failure types, and veneer ceramic-zirconia specimens exhibited predominately mixed failure types. CONCLUSION. Thermal cycling can adversely affect RBS of composite resin binded to level of fractured zirconia ceramics.
Dicor has not been prescribed routinely, in spite of many advantages, because of esthetic limitations by excessive translucency and external shading. In an attempt to solve these problems, the technique of veneering Dicor by aluminous poreclain has been used and recently Dicor Plus system was developed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the compatibility between Dicor and several veneering porcelains by measuring the shear bond strength and observing the failure mode and interface appearance with SEM. Total 55 Dicor disks(10.0mm diam. X 3.0mm thickness) were fabricated by lost wax technique and divided into five groups of 11. Veneering porcelains such as Dicor Plus, Vitadur Alpha, Vitadur N, Vivodent, and Ceramco II were built up over the center of the treated Dicor surface using paper tube(5.0mm diam. X 4.0mm height) and fired according to the manufacturesr’instructions. A representative sample from each group was completely embedded in epoxy resin and crosssectioned, and remaining 50 samples were embedded in epoxy resin with the bonded area perpendicular to table base. The shear bond strengths were measured by applying the shear load parallel to Dicor surface close to the bonded area. Failure modes and interface appearances were observed using SEM at 15 and 1000 magnification respectively. The obtained results were as follows : 1. The mean shear bond strengths showed Dicor-Dicor Plus(10.53 MPa); Dicor-Vitadur Alpha(8.84 MPa); Dicor-Vitadur N(7.37 MPa); Dicor-Vivodent(4.28 MPa); Dicor-Ceramco II(0.89 MPa). 2. The shear bond strength of Dicor-CeramcoII was significantly decreased compared with Dicor-Dicor Plus(p<0.01), but had no significant difference compared with Dicor-Vivodent(p>0.01). 3. The shear bond strengths of Dicor-Vitadur Alpha and Dicor-Vitadur N were not significantly different compared with Dicor-Dicor Plus(p>0.01). 4. SEM examination of bond failure modes revealed that Dicor-Dicor plus, Dicor-Vitadur Alpha, Dicor-Vitadur N exhibited cohesive failure within Dicor and Dicor-Vivodent exhibited adhesive failure. And Dicor-Ceramco III exhibited adhesive failure and cohesive failure within CeramcoIII together. 5. SEM examination of interfaces revealed that Dicor-Dicor Plus exhibited the most tight contact and Dicor-Vitadur Alpha, Dicor-Vitadur N exhibited acceptible contacts. But Vivodent exhibited discontinuous gap and Ceramco II exhibited large continuous gap.
The purposes of this study were to evaluate the effect of adhesive property on microtensile bond strength and to determine the failure mode. Flat occlusal dentin surfaces were prepared using low-speed diamond saw. The dentin was etched with 37% phosphoric acid. The following adhesives were applied to the etched dentin to manufacturer's directions: Scotchbond Multi-Purpose in group SM, Prime&Bond NT in group NT, Scotchbond Multi-Purpose followed by Tetric-flow in group TR. After adhesive application, a cylinder of resin-based composite was built up on the occlusal surface. Each tooth was sectioned vertically to obtain the $1{\;}{\times}{\;}1\textrm{mm}^2$ "sticks". Microtensile bond strength were determined. Each specimen was observed under stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscope (SEM) to examine the failure mode. Data were analyzed using one way ANOVA. The results of this study were as follows:1. The microtensile bond strength value were:group SM ($18.98{\pm}3.01MPa$). group NT ($16.01{\pm}4.82MPa$) and group TR ($17.56{\pm}3.22MPa$). No significant statistical differences were observed among the groups (P>0.05). 2. Most of specimens showed mixed failure. In group TR, there was a higher number of specimens showing areas of cohesive failure in resin.

Existing reinforced concrete building structures constructed before 1988 have seismically-deficient reinforcing details, which can lead to the premature failure of the columns and beam-column joints. The premature failure was resulted from the inadequate bonding performance between the reinforcing bars and surrounding concrete on the main structural elements. This paper aims to quantify the bond-slip effect on the dynamic responses of reinforced concrete frame models using finite element analyses. The bond-slip behavior was modeled using an one-dimensional slide line model in LS-DYNA. The bond-slip models were varied with the bonding conditions and failure modes, and implemented to the well-validated finite element models. The dynamic responses of the frame models with the several bonding conditions were compared to the validated models reproducing the actual behavior. It verifies that the bond-slip effects significantly affected the dynamic responses of the reinforced concrete building structures.
