Numerical Analysis of Combustion and Heat Transfer of Domestic Gas Boiler Equipped with 2-stage Heat Exchanger (수치해법을 이용한 2단 열교환기 장착 가정용 보일러 연소실의 연소 및 열전달 특성 해석)

  • In this work, a numerical investigation is performed for the combustion chamber of domestic gas boiler with 1-stage and 2-stage heat exchangers. The fluid flow and heat transfer performance is simulated with a structure change of heat exchanger. The numerical solution shows that the heat transfer of the 2-stage heat exchanger is about 24% higher than that of the 1-stage heat exchanger, while the pressure loss of the 2-stage heat exchanger increases. The temperature of combustion chamber with 2-stage heat exchanger is lower than that of 1-stage. This effect reduces thermal NOx with decrease of high temperature staying time of the combustion gas.

An Experimental Study on Performance of Heatproof Silicon at the Connector of Boiler Exhaust Tube (배기통과 가스보일러 접속부의 내열실리콘 성능에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Recently, during the past five years, accidents of gas boiler using city gas have occurred 7.4 times more than those which use LP gas. The number of accidents has increased since the use of city gas boilers has increased. These boiler accidents resulted in 87% death from poisoning of CO, and casualty of the accidents was 4.3 times more than that of other types of accident. Hence this study makes the cause of accidents clear by separation the exhaust tube which is the cause of CO poisoning. Also, this study will establish the safety of heat-resistant silicon through testing the performance of heat-resistant silicon. The experiment showed that common silicon started hardening at $56^{\circ}C$ while the heat-resistant silicon did not begin carbonization until $606^{\circ}C$. Besides at the temperature of $150^{\circ}C$ which is the normal temperature of exhaust tube, common silicon leaked on the pneumatic test after deterioration, but the heat-resistant silicon maintained its original property. With these results, we judge that we can reduce the casualty by CO poisoning if we use the heat-resistant silicon to the connector of he exhaust tube.

  • The accidents related to boilers are caused by defects with high risk which can lead to the explosion of the equipment. The number of boiler accidents from 1979 to 2006 is 100 andthe casualties totaled 379, and the scale of accidents has been growing larger every year. The analysis has found that the number of accidents caused by carelessness in management is 59, 72% of total 82 cases and 18by low level of water. The analysis of accidents in foreign countries showed a similar result. From the past till today most of the accidents have been resulted from bad handlingand maintenance. The analysis of accidents for the inspected boilers also showed that the major cause of the accidents was bad handling and maintenance of automatic controllers, safety devices, etc. And in the large-scale explosive accidents, the number one cause of them was the low level of water.

  • The premixed burner is a very strong candidate for using household boiler burner system because it has high efficiency, low emission and can be used in compact boiler system. Usually, household boiler burner systems use a Bunsen burner, which consists of an inner rich premixed flame and fuel burned completely by a secondary air supply. It has a relatively long flame length and operates in a high excess of air, so it is difficult to fit such a burner into a high efficiency compact boiler. In this paper, the characteristics of a premixed combustion burner for surface media such as metal fiber, ceramic, and SUS fin were evaluated. In particular, the flow velocity over the burner surface for the cold flow characteristics of the surface material were measured and adjusted. The combustion tests were carried out by taking pictures of the flame and measuring the flame temperature. The amounts of CO and NO were measured and the characteristics of the surface burner materials, combustion chamber, and heat exchangers were evaluated for various excess air ratios and heating values.

  • This paper is written for the development and application of boiler fuel control algorithm and distributed control system of coal-fired power plant by the steps of design, coding, simulation test, site installation and site commissioning test. Fuel control algorithm has the upper algorithm and it is boiler master control algorithm that controls the fuel, feed water, air by generation output demand. Generation output demand by power load influences fuel control. Because fuel can not be supplied fast to the furnace of boiler, fuel control algorithm was designed adequately to control the steam temperature and to prevent the explosion of boiler. This control algorithms were coded to the control programs of distributed control systems which were developed domestically for the first time. Simulator for coal-fired power plant was used in the test step. After all of distributed control systems were connected to the simulator, the tests of the actual power plant were performed successfully. The reliability was obtained enough to be installed at the actual power plant and all of distributed control systems had been installed at power plant and all signals were connected mutually. Tests for reliability and safety of plant operation were completed successfully and power plant is being operated commercially. It is expected that the project result will contribute to the safe operation of domestic new and retrofit power plants, the self-reliance of coal-fired power plant control technique and overseas business for power plant.

Thermal Stress Anaysis of Burning Plate by Configuration of Outdoor Gas Boiler (야외용 가스보일러의 연소판 형상에 따른 열응력 해석)

  • This study investigates the result of thermal stress analysis on burning plate by classes at outdoor gas boiler. In the analysis results at the steady state, the maximum stress and deformations are 666,8MPa at A type and 0.20476mm at B type respectively. The deformation becomes larger as the field goes on from the center to the outside at burning plate. As there are 8 types in the order of maximum stress and deformation, F and C type have safest among 8 types respectively. Therefore, F type becomes most excellent on strength and safety among 8 types. By using the analysis result of burning plate model at gas boiler, it is possible to design the model applied practically at the safe component parameters of boiler system.

  • Fuel gas compressor system is applied to medium FPSO. In order to avoid surge, this system used the anti-surge valves. When surge occurs it may lead to system's fracture. So anti-surge valves are evaluated structural strength and structural safety. Especially, in emergency mode, valves are must be guaranteed structural safety. In this study, structural strength and structural safety of anti-surge valve was evaluated using the numerical simulation. Unigraphics NX 4.0 was used as Geometrical models, structural strength and structural safety calculation were carried out by ANSYS Workbench 12.1. The ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code is refer to allowable strength and safety factor of the valves.
