  • The purpose of this study was to compare the body alignment during standing on level and wedge board. Twenty healthy college students (8 females, 12 males) were evaluated in this study. Diagnostic contourline potographic imaging system (Model JTC-1, Jodang Trading Co.) was used to measure body alignment. Sagittal and frontal plane images were used to analyze the body alignment. The result showed that the cervical and lumbar lordotic curve significantly decreased during standing on wedge board when compared with standing on level. On the other hand, thoracic kyphosis significantly increased during standing on wedge board. There was no significant difference in body alignment according to gender, weight, and height. Clinically, patients with low back pain and severe lordosis may be affected by heel wedge. Further study is needed to identify whether the standing on wedge board can change the body alignment in patients with low back pain and spinal deformity.

  • Some materials show the character of rigid body in low frequency spectrum. The rigid body motions are consisted of translational and rotational motions. Especially, we can get the acceleration or displacement of a random point in the rigid body by analyzing rigid body transfer matrix at the car's engine and power train. Actually it is difficult to measure the acceleration by attaching the sensor inside of the engine and power train. So the hard to predict acceleration data can be achieved attaching the sensor on the outside of the engine and power train by analyzing the data of rigid body motion which the engine is operated using dynamo. Also this paper will show the change of predicted data and accuracy variation by not using all the measured data but a few exceptions of the point number.

  • Current studies validate the Body Positive Scale (BP Scale) as a self-assessment instrument that captures four dimensions of the positive body image construct. We developed and evaluated a 17-item BP Scale using two focus group interviews and four independent samples (n = 1,379) of Korean women who completed online survey questionnaires. We generated an initial pool of items via literature review, content validation with experts, and focus group interviews, subsequently refining the items through exploratory analysis (Study 1). We confirmed the BP Scale's underlying dimensions with young Korean female samples (Study 2, Study 4) and with a community sample (Study 3). We also examined the construct validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability over a six-week interval. Overall, the results supported that the four-factor BP Scale demonstrates adequate validity and reliability in measuring positive body image among Korean women. The BP Scale provides a method for researchers and practitioners to understand and assess individuals' positive body image in a multifaceted manner.

  • Objective: The purpose of the present study was to examine the changes in the body perception of young children using a short-term longitudinal design, then to investigate the factors related to their body perception. Methods: Participants were 65 preschool children and their mothers that were recruited from five institutions. An 11-month, two-time point longitudinal design was used in which children were interviewed individually to examine the changes in body perception. At the second time point, children were assessed with an additional measure to investigate self-esteem, and their mothers also reported on maternal factors and children's media experience through a questionnaire. Data were analyzed by paired t-test, independent t-test, correlations and ANOVA. Results: The results showed a significant decline of children's negative body perception over time. Children's media experience was positively correlated with negative body perception. Mothers whose children showed higher body mass index (BMI) sent more verbal messages about their child's weight reduction. In addition, children's negative body perception was positively correlated with physical self-esteem. Finally, there was a significant difference in only the physical self-esteem according to the level of children's body perception. Conclusion/Implications: The findings would suggest theoretical and practical implications to support intervention and education programs to improve the body image of young children.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the floor temperature on the human body and to estimate thermal comfort zone in a heated room. In order to evaluate the effects of floor heating, a series of experiments were carried out using Korean subjects. The following experiments were conducted: 1) to obtain the effective radiation area and configuration factors of the person in the sitting posture on a floor to get the mean radiant temperature, 2) to measure contacted area of the person to the floor to calculate conduction heat rate, 3) to measure convective heat transfer coefficient of the body and 4) to know the thermal comfort zone of indoor environment heated by ON-DOL. Subjects were exposed to the following conditions: combinations of air temperature $20^{\circ}C$, $22.5^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$, and floor temperature $20^{\circ}C$, $22.5^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$, $27.5^{\circ}C$, $30^{\circ}C$, $32.5^{\circ}C$, $35^{\circ}C$, $37.5^{\circ}C$, $40^{\circ}C$ under still air and 50% relative humidity in the controllable artificial climate chamber. To evaluate the effect of heat conduction between the body and a floor modified mean skin temperature was defined. Weighting coefficient to calculate mean skin temperature were modified with the contacted area. The experiments revealed a positive correlation between the modified operative temperature and the modified mean skin temperature. The modified mean skin temperature can indicate the effect of heat conduction between body and a floor surface.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate between locus of control, body cathexis and four aspects of clothing behavior. Locus of control was measured by Rotter's The Internal-External Scale and body cathexis by Secord and Jourard's Body Cathexis Scale. Two aspects of clothing behavior were assessed with Lee's questionnaires dealing with status symbol and clothing satisfaction. Clothing Acceptance I was determined with questionnaires designed to measure the acceptance of color and casual wear and Clothing Acceptance II by line drawings of clothing representing formal type, informal type, and new mode type designed to measure the acceptance of business suits. The questionnaires in this study were administered to a sample of men (between 20 to more than 60 years of age) in Seoul. The data from 303 respondents were analyzed. The results were: 1) Locus of control was not related to Clothing Acceptance I(acceptance of color and casual wear), but positively related to Clothing Acceptance II(acceptance of business suit), that is, the persons having wider latitudes of acceptance in business suits were internally controlled in locus of control. 2) Locus of control was negatively related to status symbol, that is, the persons having higher concepts in status symbol were externally controlled in locus of control. 3) Body cathexis was positively related to clothing satisfaction, that is, the persons having higher satisfaction toward their clothing were more satisfied with their body.

  • Purpose : The purpose of the research was to analyze foot pressure, foot temperature, and correlation between foot pressure and foot temperature to grasp impact on foot pressure and body temperature distribution chart depending on functional difference of leg length. Method : After measuring leg length, put 15 students whose functional difference of leg length was over 10mm to difference group and 15 students whose functional difference of leg length was under 5mm to normal group and categorize soles of foot into 6 sections of hallux head, 1st metatarsal head, 2-4 metatarsal head, 5 metatarsal head, lateral heel, and then measure by foot pressure analyzer to analyze characteristic of pressure distribution and classify into front of the lower leg, back of the lower leg, soles of foot and measure by body temperature analyzer to analyze by checking body temperature. Result : Weight difference depending on foot pressure and body temperature was bigger when functional difference of leg length was bigger, and it could be confirmed that foot pressure and body temperature of short leg side were higher than those of short leg side. Thus, if difference exists in leg length, weight load on short leg side increases which results in higher foot pressure and body temperature, therefore enabling an assumption that mechanical problem will occur in short leg. Conclusion : When functional leg length inequality, weight bearing and pressure was getting high as a result, temperature was getting high in short leg.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between masseter muscle thickness, facial morphology, and mandibular morphology in Korean adults using ultrasonography. Materials and Methods: Ultrasonography was used to measure the masseter muscle thickness bilaterally of 40 adults(20 males, 20 females) and was performed in the relaxed and contracted states. Facial photos and panoramic radiography were used for morphological analyses and evaluated for correlations with masseter muscle thickness. We also evaluated the correlations of age, body weight, stature, and body constitution with masseter muscle thickness. Results: In the relaxing, the masseter was $9.8{\pm}1.3mm$ in females and $11.3{\pm}1.2mm$ in males. In the contracted state, it was $12.4{\pm}1.4mm$ in females and $14.7{\pm}1.4mm$ in males. Facial photography showed that bizygomatic facial width over facial height was correlated with masseter muscle thickness in both sexes in the relaxed state, and was statistically significantly correlated with masseter muscle thickness in males in the contracted state. In panoramic radiography, correlations were found between anterior angle length and posterior angle length and masseter muscle thickness in females, and between body length and posterior angle length, between anterior angle length and body length, between ramal length and body length, and between body length and condyle length in males. Conclusion: Masseter muscle thickness was associated with facial and mandibular morphology in both sexes, and with age in males. Ultrasonography can be used effectively to measure masseter muscle thickness.

  • This study investigated dieting behavior, awareness of body shapes, and eating disorders in female adolescents according to age and BMI. The Eating Attitude Test for Korean Adolescents (EAT-26KA) and sociocultural standards were used to measure eating disorders and sociocultural attitudes related to appearance, respectively. In addition, the BDI (Beck Depression Inventory) scale was used to measure the correlation between disordered eating and depression. The data were collected from 390 female adolescents living in Seoul and were analyzed using SPSS15.0. The results indicated that subjects wanted to be thinner despite having a normal body weight (BMI 19.35${\pm}$2.73). They also thought of themselves as fat and with desires to be slimmer, and viewed "diet and exercise" as the best way to lose weight. About 67.4% of the respondents had tried a diet and had experienced dizziness, anorexia, and general exhaustion while dieting. Also, 5.1% of the subjects were classified as eating disorder and suffered from stress to be thin. In addition, 85.0% of the subjects with eating disorder had tried a diet due to "appearance". They thought that "being underweight" was an ideal body image and considered themselves fat, although their BMIs were in the normal range (19.94${\pm}$2.02). In terms of symptoms during dieting, many of the subjects dealing with an eating disorder felt dizzy, had low energy, and were depressed. In conclusion, we must educate young females about healthy eating and positive body image to prevent the development of adolescent eating disorders.
