The Review of KDAB Agriculture Project for the Rural Development in Bangladesh (방글라데쉬 농촌 개발을 위한 케이디에이비 농업 개발사업의 평가)

  • Bangladesh that is known as the poorest country of the world has the large land of fertile soil and very good environment to live, even though we think she may be very bad to live. People being habituated to that good environment, the population explosion made the people to be starven, but the treatment has been simple support without deep analysis of the root of poverty. As the result it is general that the poverty is severer and severer in spite of continuous support. For the last century Korea changed from the country of poverty and despair to that of development and hope, to be model mid vision of under development countries including Bangladesh. At this point it is necessary to look back the way of development to help them to solve their poverty problem. That is the goal of this project, and this thesis is the result of it. It is evaluated for the 1st 5 years work of the project to apply the result to the next 5 years plan. This project had been proceeded from 1. Jul. 1990 to 30. Jun. 1995 at Chilmari area of Bangladesh, with teaching and training to wake up the mentality of the people, demonstration farming and cooperative association. It was proceeded as the Agriculture project of KDAB(Korean Development Association in Bangladesh, an NGO registered to Bangladesh) supported by Good Neighbors, KOICA and many churches and individuals. Especially the teaching and training work was proceeded as the branch of the Canaan Farmer`s School of Korea with instruction and support. After the basic survey for project, the confirmation of working place and the preparation of training facility, 10 times of long term training(3 months worse, boarding) was completed, with many times of short term training, informal training, demonstration farm, various demonstrating works. The results of the work are understanding of the not of problem by participatory observation, making plan to solve it, getting the trust from the people and beginning the practical work with the trainees for development of economy and living situation. The biggest problem of Bangladesh is being understood losing the desire to solve the poverty problem and the self-confidence to be able to do it. It is the conclusion that after solving the problem of thought and mentality, the education, technology and money can be effective for development. So the 1st 5 year project is evaluated as the basic work to analyse the root of problem, to chance mentality of people and to search income source. The next goal is to promote practical living level of people. For that it is necessary to develope die mentality of people including responsibility and self-confidence by teaching and training, to educate cooperative association and technology for economical development, to proceed integrated rural development work with economical development, educational improvement and reformation of environment. It is very important result that they decided to grow poultry for main economical source of Chilmari area, to do economical development work by joint operation of poultry through cooperative association.

Barrier Free Accessibility to Trains for All

  • This paper is the output of a collaborative European project concerning the barrier free accessibility for disabled persons to regional and long distance trains in Europe. Disabled people represent around 13% of the population in Europe. This is approximately 63 million people. The range of disabilities includes people with reduced mobility including wheel chair users, viewing and hearing impaired people and other forms of impairment. Improving accessibility aims at contributing to the provision of public transport services to all citizens in an equitable way. The purpose of the project was to analyse and to evaluate the existing solutions at selected European railways for all required modules at the entrance (doors, information and safety solutions), to derive a design concept, to develop a mock-up in meeting the needs of rail travellers with the above mentioned impairments and to test it with user groups. The project also aims at deriving components for the determination of standards. The EUPAX Design Mock-up test was performed to verify the advantages of the layout of the train segment including the different modules such as access area (including the access door, gaps between platform and train as well as boarding aid devices), entrance vestibule, information systems inside and outside the train, emergency facilities, toilet with all conveniences and the additional test arrangements regarding push buttons, steps and emergency equipment. For this purpose a questionnaire was developed for the assessment of the EUPAX segment and the additional test arrangements. With the help of this questionnaire it was possible to execute a quantitative and qualitative evaluation. During three test phases 67 experts and handicapped persons from 6 countries have evaluated the Industrial Design mock-up based on this questionnaire. The test group covered persons from North (Denmark) to the South (Italy) and from the West (Spain) to the Middle of Europe (Germany). This is especially important for the generalization (harmonisation) of the results for all European countries. According to COST 335 the information for people with reduced mobility should be clear, concise, accurate and timely. So that all information can be received from persons, they must be transferred on at least two of the three possible ways (acoustical, visual, tactile), a so called "2-sense-principle". Based on the results ergonomic specifications/ solutions for the ergonomic design of the access area, the acoustic, visual and tactile information and the emergency devices including the emergency communication system were developed, related to the benefiting passenger groups.

A Re-Routable Smart Shuttle Traveling Scheme for Smart Mobility (스마트 모빌리티를 위한 경로변경이 가능한 스마트 셔틀 운행기법 연구)

  • With the development of the 4th Industry Revolution and the progress of related technologies, people have been using various services in a more convenient way in their daily lives. Among these technologies, the smart mobility is a service that effectively transports people or packets from the origin to the final destination using a variety of methods/vehicles. With respect to the smart mobility technology, the shuttle service is operational at the final destination. The conventional shuttle operation only takes into account the shuttle operability and does not consider the shuttle-passenger efficiency at all by the one-way routing. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the smart shuttle algorithm that can change the routes to efficiently support boarding passengers. Our proposed scheme consists of 3 algorithms: the shuttle operating algorithm, the re-routable shuttle traveling algorithm, and the passenger-riding algorithm. All those 3 algorithms are effectively co-operated and collaborated for better performance. In-depth experiments were conducted to analyze and to show the superior performance, resulting in an average 23.6% reduction of destination-arrival time per passenger, average 10.37% reduction of shuttle-waiting time per passenger, and average 15.38% decrease of shuttle traveling time per hour. This proves that our smart shuttle traveling scheme reveals the whole remarkable performance, effectively using the re-routable characteristics.

Analysis of Space Functions of the Archway in the Red Gate Palace in the Mount Tai Scenic Area (타이산(泰山) 홍문궁(紅門宮) 패방(牌坊)의 공간 기능 분석)

  • As a monumental building in the form of an arch, an archway has the characteristics of praise and honor. More and more historic, cultural and social connotations are given during the development of history. Four archways that are located on the middle route of the Red Gate Palace in the Mount Tai Scenic Area were chosen for research. Based on a literature review and field investigation with a visual analysis method, the physical attributes, spatial scale, perceptions and functions of the archways were discussed. The results were as follows: The archways in the research area are all made of stone. According to building location, they are classified into two types: Cultural archway and temple archway. Regarding functions, they are divided into symbolic archway, memorial archway and portal archway. From the point of view of form and scale, the Confucius Boarding Archway enjoys a higher standard than the other three. This reflects the importance of Confucian culture on Mount Tai. Regarding spatial scale, the archway becomes the focus in a restrictive linear space by an object-to-object and person-to-object comparison. Visitor experience of crossing the archways is strongly enhanced as it acts as entrance and exit, and it has the function of guiding sight since the arrangement of the archways further extend the line of sight. Couplets and inscriptions on the archways increase a sense of expectation for visitors on their way to the top of Mount Tai.

Especially, The U.S.A made Transportation security Administration in Homeland security adminstration and strongly execute for policies related anti-terror. many countries over the world enforce airport and airplane security facilities with science-technology contents. and with security exploitation for the passengers and freight security inspection level enforcement, many countries also make effort to interupt aviation terror threat. In this process, in the center of developed countries that need science-technology contents adaption, much budget and personals are invested and exploited a security inspection instrument and complimented of many facilities As a result, according to the development of science-technology, prevention of Terror have much developed. The contents using intelligence-communication technology inevitably needed on the goal of terror prevention and safty. From simple monitoring for the people who come in and out airport to boarding process and inspection for the freight, security inspection process for the passengers, bio information input, confirmation, of the level that there is no cases of adaption of contents, The reality have generalized of using contents. The study is going to research contents application situation.

This study studied heat transfer characteristics required for the design of life raft and thermal insulation property analysis and evaluation methods. In addition, it is study for comprehend the risk of hypothermia and suggest analysis result that is experiment of thermal insulation property and body temperature property for decide of prediction the body temperature decline Thermal Analysis apply the finite element analysis method is comprehended the property of heat conductivity, convective effect of sea water and properties changes according to property of insulation material. it measure the heat flux with attach temperature sensor on body in order to comprehend the variation of body temperature with boarding a life raft experiment on a human body. This study validate results by comparing variation of temperature measured from experiment on a body with variation of temperature from finite element analysis model. Also, the criteria of hypothermia was discussed through result of finite element analysis.

A Study of the Dietary Habits, the Nutritional Knowledge and the Consumption Patterns of Convenience Foods of University Students in the Gwangju Area (광주지역 대학생의 식습관, 영양지식 및 편의식품 섭취 실태에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the dietary habits, the nutritional knowledge and the consumption patterns of convenience foods of 618 university students located in the Gwangju area, from November twentieth to November thirtieth, 2002. The subjects included 301 males (48.7%) and 317 females (51.3%). This survey was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire. The percentage of students who were underweight, normal and overweight based on their body mass index (BMI) was 3.7, 88.0 and 8.3 far the males, and 29, 71 and 0 for the females, respectively. Most students (73.8%) skipped breakfast. This was because of lack of time (65.1%) of the cases. Self-reported eating habit problems were eating irregular meal (52.4%), overeating (21%), prejudiced meal (12.4%) and skipping meal (7.4%). The type of favorite snack was biscuit (31.9%) and cup Ramyon (31.9%). The rates of alcohol drinking in male and female students were 88.0% and 85.8% respectively, and the rates of smoking were 35.9% and 28% respectively. Males ate fiequently cup Ramyon (2.08 $\pm$ 2.95), fries (pork cutlet, fried potato) (1.91 $\pm$ 2.58), Ramyon (1.81 $\pm$ 3.00) and kimbab (1.70 $\pm$ 3.17) more frequently, while females ate kimbab (2.25 $\pm$ 3.26), cup Ramyon (1.89 $\pm$ 2.09), fries (pork cutlet, fried potato) (1.77 $\pm$ 2.67), Ramyon (1.46 $\pm$ 1.1.95) and fish paste (1.45 $\pm$ 2.22) more frequently. The nutritional knowledge score was higher in females than in males. The mean consumption patterns of convenience foods of students living in home were lower than that of students living in dormitory and boarding w/cooking. When the amount of pocket money available and the body mass index increased and the nutritional knowledge level was low, the mean consumption of convenience foods increased. The mean consumption of convenience foods correlated negatively with nutritional knowledge (p < 0.01). Therefore, nutritional education for university students is needed so as to improve their health and nutritional education program should be developed to meet the various needs of these students.   • This study is to develop Bus Transit Route Analysis and Evaluation Model that can product the quantitative performance measures for Bus Transit Route Network Design. So far, in Korea, there are no so many models that evaluate a variety of other performance measures or service quality that are of concern to both the transit users and operator because of lower-level bus database system and transit route network analysis algorithm's limit. The BTRAEM in this research differ from the previous approach in that the BTRAEM employs a multiple path transit trip assignment model that explicitly considers the transfer and different travel time after boarding. And we develop input-output data structure and quantitative performance measure for the BTRAEM. In the numerical experimental applying BTRAEM to Mandl transit network, We got the meaningful results on performance measure of bus transit route network. In the future, we expect BTRAEM to give a good solution in real transit network.

The Study on Improvement about Structural Integrity of Main Landing Gear for Rotorcraft (회전익 항공기 구조건전성 향상을 위한 주륜착륙장치 결함 개선연구)

  • The landing gear is a component that requires a high degree of safety to protect the lives of rotary-wing aircraft and boarding personnel, absorbing the impact on transfer/landing and supporting the fuselage during taxiing and mooring on the ground. In particular, the wheel landing gear supporting the aircraft fuselage absorbs most of the shock from the ground through the shock absorber and tires. This ensures the safety of the pilot on board the aircraft and satisfies the operational capability of the soldiers between missions. During the operation of a rotary-wing aircraft, a number of piston pins, which are a component of the right main wheel landing gear, were found to be broken. Therefore, this study examined the root cause of the piston pin crack phenomenon found in the main wheel landing gear. For this purpose, various causes were identified from fracture surface analysis of a flight test. In particular, the possibility of cracking was analyzed based on the influence on the fastening torque with the drag beam component applied to the piston pin at the time of development. This ensures the fatigue life and structural integrity.

Improvement Plan for Ulsan Anchorage Based on Adequacy Evaluation Criteria (정박지 규모의 적정성 평가 기준에 의한 울산항 정박지 개선 방안)

  • The Ulsan anchorage has not secured a sufficient area than the anchorage demand, and the criteria for objective evaluation are not clearly defined. In this study, a general formula to solve the problems of the current anchorage density and occupancy concept was derived, and new adequacy evaluation criteria were proposed. The proposed criteria were applied to the Ulsan E anchorage to evaluate the suitability of the anchorage. The anchorage density and occupancy of the E1 anchorage were 129 % and 122 %, respectively, showing that both evaluation techniques exceeded 100 %, requiring anchorage expansion according to the evaluation criteria. A plan to expand the anchorage was reviewed considering the traffic pattern and the distance from the pilot boarding point. Therefore, a plan to open 35˚ on a sector at the end of the Ulsan No. 1 fairway was developed, and its suitability was verified. Base on the verification results, there was a part of the overlap between the extended area and the traffic track on the south of the E3 anchorage, but the possibility of affecting the marine traffic was minimal. In addition, it was confirmed that anchorage adequacy was achieved.
