  • Efficient deep-blue organic light-emitting diodes were demonstrated using 4,4'-bis(9-ethyl-3-carbazovinylene)-1,1'-biphenyl doped in double-emission layers (D-EMLs). The D-EML system, which consists of 2-methyl-9,10-di(2-naphthyl)anthracene and 1,4-(dinaphthalen-2-yl)-naphthalene as blue hosts, was employed to broaden the recombination zone and to ensure the good confinement of the holes and electrons. The optimized device showed a peak current efficiency of 4.47 cd/A, a peak external quantum efficiency of 4.09%, and Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage coordinates of (0.16, 0.10).

  • We have investigated organic light-emitting devices by doping phosphorescent orange and fluorescent blue emitters into the separate layers of single host. The electroluminescence spectra and current efficiency were strongly dependent on the location of each doped layers. The luminance-voltage (L-V) characteristics of the device2 (ITO/Hole Transport Layer/Orange Phosphorescent emissive layer/Blue Fluorescent emissive layer/Electron Transport Layer/liF/Al) showed the maximum current efficiency of 19.5 cd/A.

  • We have investigated the optical properties of Te-doped ZnSSe:Te epitaxial layers grown on (100) GaAs substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. The Te-doped ternary specimen shows strong blue or green emission (at 300k) which is assigned to Te$_{1}$ or Te$_{n}$( n$\geq$2) cluster bound exciton. Bright green and blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have been developed using ZnSSe:Te system as an active layer. The green LEDs exhibit a fairly long device lifetime (>2000 h) when operated at 3 A/cm$^{2}$ under CW condition at room temperature. It is confirmed that the Te-doping induced "crystal-hardening effect" plays a significant role in both efficient and strong suppression of the optical device degradation.gradation.

  • A new blue light emitting anthracene derivative, 9,10-bis-(9',9'-diethyl-7'-t-butyl-fluoren-2'-yl)anthracene (BETF), has been designed and synthesized by a palladium catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling. A theoretical calculation of the three-dimensional structure of BETF supports that it has a non coplanar structure and inhibited intermolecular interactions resulting in high luminescent efficiency and high color purity. BETF has good thermal stability with glass-transition temperature (Tg) of $131^{\circ}C$. The PL maximum of BETF in solution and film were 438 nm and 440 nm, respectively, showing pure blue emission. A multilayer device using BETF as emitting material exhibits maximum luminescence efficiency of 2.2 cd/A and a pure blue emission (Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of x = 0.15, y = 0.10).

  • In this paper, multiheterostructure white organic light-emitting device was fabricated by vacuum evaporation. The structure of white organic light-emitting device is ITO/CuPc/TPD/DPBi:DPA/$Alq_3/Alq_3$:DCJTB/BCT/$Alq_3$/Ca/Al. Three primary colors are implemented with DPVBi, Alq$_3$and DCJTB. The maximum EL wavelength of the fabricated white organic light-emitting device is 647nm. And the CIE coordinate is (0.33, 0.33) at 13 V. In the fabrication of white organic light-emitting devices with DCJTB, $Alq_3$, DPVBi, the EL spectrum has two peaks at 492nm, 647nm. Two peaks appeared because the blue light is combined with green light. The maximum wavelength of red light is not changed with applied voltage. After voltage applied, for the first time, the electrons met the holes in the red emission layer and emitted red light. And then the electrons moved to the green emission layer, and blue emission layer continuously. Finally, when all of the emission layer activated, the white light is emitted.

  • Through the engineering of recombination region and energy transfer in organic light emitting device, blue and red light emitting device with good color stability has been successfully obtained. A Color control layer (CCL), which emits green light through the energy transfer from the emission layers, has been introduced into the blue and red light emitting device for RGB white OLED. The RGB white OLED showed the current efficiency of 13 cd/A and the CIE coordinates of (0.33, 0.38) at $1000\;cd/m^2$. The device exhibited very stable spectrum with respect to operating current density and the CIE coordinates varied from (0.34, 0.38) to (0.31, 0.37) for $100-22000\;cd/m^2$.

  • The radiation characteristics and economic efficiency of high - luminance light - emitting diodes (LEDs), a metal halide lamp, and a halogen lamp were studied to evaluate their potential as an energy-saving light source for fishing lamps. The wavelengths at which irradiance was maximum were 709, 613, 473, 501, 525, 465, 578, and 973 nm for red, orange, blue, peacock blue, green, and white LEDs, the metal halide lamp, and the halogen lamp, respectively. If the irradiance characteristics at 300-1,100 nm wavelengths are set as 100%, the irradiance rates at 381-780 nm were 99-78%, 82%, and 24% for the LEDs, metal halide lamp, and halogen lamp, respectively. The economic efficiency was superior in the order metal halide lamp, halogen lamp, peacock blue LED, and blue LED at 381-780 nm and metal halide lamp, peacock blue LED, blue LED, and halogen lamp at 480-520 nm. Based on the radiation characteristics and economic efficiency evaluated at 480-520 nm, the blue and peacock blue LED light sources can be used as energy-saving light sources for fishing lamps.

  • This study was conducted to identify a suitable color of light for development of the fruit body in Hypsizygus marmoreus. To accomplish this, samples were irradiated with blue (475 nm), green (525 nm), yellow (590 nm), or red (660 nm) light emitting diodes (LEDs) to induce the formation of fruiting bodies after mycelia growth. The diameter and thickness of the pileus and length of stipes in samples subjected to blue LED treatment were similar to those of subjected to fluorescent light (control), and the lengths of the stipes were highest in response to treatment with the red LED and darkness. The commercial yields of plants subjected to blue and green LED treatment were similar to those of the control. In conclusion, cultivation of H. marmoreus coupled with exposure to blue LED is useful for inducing high quality fruit bodies as well as higher levels of ergosterol, DPPH radical scavenging activity, total polyphenol content and reducing power.

  • Deep blue organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) were fabricated using 5 wt.% doped BCzVBi with various blue host materials such as NPB, DPVBi, MADN and TPBi. A blue OLED device, using DPVBi as host material, was constructed via NPB ($500\;{\AA}$) / DPVBi:BCzVBi ($200\;{\AA}$) / Bphen ($300\;{\AA}$) / LiF ($20\;{\AA}$) / Al ($1,000\;{\AA}$) and it shows a maximum luminescence of $4,838\;cd/m^2$, a current density of $32.7\;mA/cm^2$, a luminous efficiency of 3.3 cd/A and CIExy coordinates of (0.19, 0.15) at 4.5 V whereas the luminous efficiencies and CIExy coordinates of other blue OLEDs using NPB, MADN and TPBi as host materials have 1.1, 2.6 and 2.0 cd/A and (0.15, 0.11), (0.15, 0.10) and (0.15, 0.10), respectively. Energy transfer mechanisms between BCzVBi and its host materials were discussed with an energy band structure of host materials.
