The physical properties of rigid polyurethane foam(PUF) synthesized using various types of blowing agents such as water, HFC-365mfc, HFC-245fa, HCFC-l4lb, CFC-11 and n-pentane were studied. The blending effect of blowing agents were also studied. The thermal conductivity, reaction rate, and cell morphology of the PUF with various blending ratio of blowing agents were investigated. The PUF blown by water shows the highest compressive strength among other single blowing agents. The thermal conductivity of PUFs blown by HFC-245fa and HFC-365mfc are close to that of PUFs blown by CFC-11. When HFC-365mfc was mixed with HFC-245fa(30mo1e$\%$) as coblowing agent, the mechanical property shows the highest value among other coblowing agents. It is that the thermal conductivity of PUFs depends on cell size of PUFs as well as thermal conductivity of blowing agent in gaseous form.
Experimental results describing the effects of blowing ratio on film cooling from two rows of holes with opposite orientation angles are presented. The inclination angle was fixed at $35^{\circ}$ and the orientation angles were set to be $45^{\circ}$ for downstream row. and $-45^{\circ}$ for upsream row. The studied blowing ratios were 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0. The boundary layer temperature distributions were measured using thermocouple at two downstream loundary layer temperature distributions were measured using thermocouple at two downstream locations. Detailed adiabatic film cooling effectiveness and heat transfer coefficient distributions were measured with TLC(Thermochromic Liquid Crystal). The adiabatic film cooling effectiveness and heat transfer coefficient distributions are discussed in connection with the injectant behaviors inferred from the boundary layer temperature distributions. Film cooling performance, represented by heat flux was calculated with the adiabatic film cooling effectiveness and heat transfer coefficient data.

The various film cooling hole shapes have been proposed for effective external cooling of gas turbine blade. In this study, the film cooling effectiveness by three different hole shapes (cylindrical hole, $15^{\circ}$ angle anti-vortex hole, 30-7-7 fan-shaped hole) were examined experimentally. Pressure Sensitive Paint (PSP) technique was used to measure the film cooling effectiveness. The coolant to mainstream density ratio was 1.0 and three blowing ratios of 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 were considered. Results clearly showed that the effect of hole shape on the distribution of film cooling effectiveness. For the cylindrical hole case, the film cooling effectiveness decreased remarkably as the blowing ratio increased due to the jet lift off. Because of large hole exit area and low coolant momentum, the 30-7-7 fan-shaped hole case showed the highest film cooling effectiveness at all blowing ratio, followed by the anti-vortex hole case.
In this study, the expansion and compressive strength tests of emergency restoration material were carried out to restore cavity causing ground subsidence. The expansion and compressive strength characteristics according to component ratio of main material - hardener and mix proportion of blowing agent - accelerator were analyzed based on the test results. As a result of the relationship of curing time - expansion ratio analyses, it confirmed that expansion ratio decreased with reduced curing time regardless of mix proportion of blowing agent - accelerator in main material, if component ratio of hardener increased. This means that component ratio of the main material - hardener had greatly affected the expansion ratio. The compressive strength characteristics of emergency restoration material confirmed that strength was affected by mix proportion of blowing agent - accelerator. Therefore, it is necessary to apply reasonable component ratio and mix proportion to consider the required injection time, expansion ratio and strength of restoration material, when emergency restoration in ground cavity is required.

The pressure distributions on a semi-span wing 1/12 scale mode and sic component aerodynamic forces and moments on a complete 1/16 scale advanced trainer model were measured. To reduce wing-tip vortex strength, 3 wing-tip jet slot shaped(forward $35{^{\circ}C}$ direction, straigt direction, backward $35{^{\circ}C}$ direction) and 3 blowing coefficents (0.004, 0.009, 0.017) were considered. From experiment results, the case of straight direction and blowing coefficent of 0.017 was the best effective in the reduction of drag and in increase of lift-drag ratio and A rate of drag decrease and a rate of lift-drag ratio increase were of most effective on angle of attack 8 degree.

The leading edge of a turbine blade was simulated as a circular cylindrical surface. The effect of free-stream turbulence on the mass transfer upstream of the injectionhole has been investigated experimentally. The effects of injection location, blowing ratio on the Sherwood number distribution were examined as well. The mass transfer coefficients were measured by a naphthalene sublimation technique. The free-stream Reynolds number based on the cylinder diameter is 53,000. Other conditions investigated are: free-stream turbulence intensities of 3.9% and 8.0%, injection locations of $40^{\circ}$, $50^{\circ}$, and $60^{\circ}$ from the front stagnation point of the cylinder, and blowing ratios of 0.5 and 1.0. The role of the horseshoe vortex formed upstream edge of the injected jet is dicussed in detail. When the blowing ratio is unity, and the coolant jet is injected at $40^{\circ}$, the mass transfer upstream of the jet is not affected by the coolant jet at all. On the other hand, when the injection hole is located beyond $50^{\circ}$, the mass transfer upstream edge of the injection hole suddenly increases due to the formation of the horseshoe vortex, but it dereases as the free-stream turbulence intensity increases because the strength of the horseshoe vortex structure becomes weakened. The role of the horseshoe vortex is clearly evidenced by placing a rigid rod at the injection hole instead of issuing the jet. In the case of the rigid rod, the spanwise Sherwood number upstream of the injection hole is much larger due to the intense influence of the horseshoe vortex.
Rigid polyurethane foams (PUF)s were synthesized with environmentally friendly blowing agents such as a cyclopentane/distilled water (10.0/1.0, pphp) mixture and distilled water only for four different silicone surfactants having different silicone/polyether ratios. An attempt was made to reduce the thermal conductivities of the PUF samples by varying the concentration and the silicone/polyether ratio of the various silicone surfactants. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results indicated an optimum concentration of the silicone surfactant of about 1.5 to 2.5 phpp for various surfactants to reduce the cell size and lower the thermal conductivity. The silicone surfactant having a higher silicone/polymer ratio showed a smaller cell size and, therefore, demonstrated the lower thermal conductivity of the PUF samples. From the relation between the thermal conductivity and the cell size of the PUF samples, the smaller cell size improved the thermal insulation property of the rigid PUF for both the PUF samples blown by the cyclopentane/distilled water (10.0/1.0, pphp) mixture and distilled water only. If the blowing agent is fixed, then the cell size is an important factor to decrease the thermal conductivity of the PUF samples. These results indicated that rigid PUF samples having lower thermal conductivity can be obtained by choosing a silicone surfactant containing a higher silicone/polyether ratio, as well as an optimum content of the surfactant.
A parametric study on anti-vortex holes for turbine blade cooling was investigated numerically. Three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations and shear stress transport turbulence model were used for analysis of anti-vortex film cooling. Validation of numerical results was carried out comparing with experimental data. The cooling performance of anti-vortex holes was assessed by two geometric variables, the ratio of diameters of holes and the lateral distances between the primary hole and anti-vortex hole at blowing ratios of 0.5 and 1.0. The results showed that the spatially-averaged film-cooling effectiveness increases as the ratio of the diameters increases and the distance between the primary hole and anti-vortex hole decreases.

An experimental investigation was conducted to enhance the heat/mass transfer for impingement/effusion cooling system when the initial crossflow was formed. For the improvement of heat transfer, the circular guide is installed on the injection hole. At the fixed jet Reynolds number of 10,000, the measurements were carried out for blowing ratios ranging from 0.5 to 1.5. The local heat/mass transfer coefficients on the effusion plate are measured using a naphthalene sublimation method. The result presents that the circular guide protects the injected jet from the initial crossflow, increasing the heat/mass transfer. The heat transfer of stagnation region is hardly changed regardless of the blowing ratio. The secondary peak is obviously formed by flow transition to turbulent flow. At high blowing ratio of 1.5, the circular guide produces $26{\sim}30%$ augmentation on the averaged heat/mass transfer while the case without circular guide leads to the low and non-uniform heat/mass transfer. With the increased heat/mass transfer, the installation of circular guide is accompanied by the increase of pressure loss in the channel. However, the pressure drop caused by the circular guide is lower than that for other cooling technique with the circular pin fin.
A numerical study has been performed for the 2-dimensional film cooling employed in the cooling of hot components such as gas turbines. The flow and heat transfer characteristics are numerically simulated using FLUENT software. Blowing ratios vary from 0.25 to 5.0 and coolant injection angles vary from $15^{\circ}\;to\;60^{\circ}\;in\;15^{\circ}$ increment. The result shows that, for all cases, there exists a blowing ratio which maximizes film cooling effect (measured by the distance from the slot exit to the downstream wall location at which temperature increases to 900 K) for a given injection angle. It is also observed that the film cooling effectiveness decreases when downstream wall is sunk or lifted. The simulation has been performed using both constant properties and temperature dependent variable properties. It is found that the cases with constant properties overestimate the film cooling effect considerably.
