This paper proposes a new blind measurement model of blocking artifacts. This model plays an important role in the assessment and enhancement of image quality caused by block-based DCT coding system. The proposed model can measure blocking artifacts without reference to original images and consider the HVS based visual model such as frequency sensitivity and channel masking effect to detect and measure overall blocking artifacts quantitatively. The experimental results show that the proposed model is highly effective in measuring blocking artifacts.

In this paper, we present a new analytical model that can precisely estimate the blocking performance of wavelength-routed WDM networks with sparse-partial-limited wavelength conversion (SPLWC). The proposed model accounts for the two sources of call blocking in a wavelength converter: range blocking originated from the limited conversion range of a wavelength converter; and capacity blocking induced from the limited number of wavelength converters. Based on the proposed model, we also present a new converter placement algorithm that minimizes the amount of wavelength conversion capability, while satisfying the given constraint on the network-wide blocking probability. From the numerical results obtained from the EON, we demonstrate that the blocking probability of the analytical model closely matches with that of the simulation. We also show that, by efficiently combining the existing sparse, partial, and limited wavelength conversion, the SPL WC can achieve the required blocking performance with the least amount of wavelength conversion cost.

Administration of stable iodine has been considered a best measure to protect the thyroid from internal irradiation by radioiodine intake, and its efficacy on thyroid protection has been quantitatively evaluated in several simulation studies on the basis of simple iodine biokinetic models (i.e., three-compartment model). However, the new iodine biokinetic model adopted by the International Commission on Radiological Protection interprets and expresses the thyroid blocking phenomenon differently. Therefore, in this study, the new model was analyzed in terms of thyroid blocking and implemented to reassess the protective effects and to produce dosimetric data. The biokinetic model calculation was performed using computation modules developed by authors, and the results were compared with those of experimental data and prior simulation studies. The new model predicted protective effects that were generally consistent with those of experimental data, except for those in the range of stable iodine administration -72 h before radioiodine exposure. Additionally, the dosimetric data calculated in this study demonstrates a critical limitation of the three-compartment model in predicting bioassay functions, and indicated that dose assessment 1 d after exposure would result in a similar dose estimate irrespective of the administration time of stable iodine.
Application of a generalized equivalent circuit including the electrode condition for the Hebb-Wagner polarization in the frequency domain proposed by Jamnik and Maier can provide a consistent set of material parameters, such as the geometric capacitance, partial conductivities, chemical capacitance or diffusivity, as well as electrode characteristics. Generalization of the shunt capacitors for the chemical capacitance by the constant phase elements (CPEs) was applied to a model mixed conducting system, $Ag_2S$, with electron-blocking AgI electrodes and ion-blocking Pt electrodes. While little difference resulted for the electron-blocking cell with almost ideal Warburg behavior, severely non-ideal behavior in the case of Pt electrodes not only necessitates a generalized transmission line model with shunt CPEs but also requires modelling of the leakage in the cell approximately proportional to the cell conductance, which then leads to partial conductivity values consistent with the electron-blocking case. Chemical capacitance was found to be closer to the true material property in the electron-blocking cell while excessively high chemical capacitance without expected silver activity dependence resulted in the electron-blocking cell. A chemical storage effect at internal boundaries is suggested to explain the anomalies in the respective blocking configurations.

Damages by jellyfish are occurring frequently around the world. Among them, accidents caused by jellyfish stings are serious enough to cause death. So we designed a jellyfish blocking net and analyzed its stability to prevent sting caused by jellyfish entering the beach. To this end, the dynamic behavior of the jellyfish blocking net according to the current speed (0.25-1.0 m/s) and the net type (50, 100 and 150 mm) on the upper part of the blocking net was modeled using the mass spring model. As a result of simulations for the model, the horizontal tension (horizontal component of the mooring tension) of the mooring line increased with the decrease in the mesh size on the upper part of the blocking net at all current speeds, but exceeded the holding force at high tides faster than 0.5 m/s and exceeded the holding force at all current speeds at low tide. Therefore, the jellyfish blocking nets showed poor stability overall. The depth of the float line had a little difference according to the upper mesh size and increased lineary proportional to the current speed. However, the float line sank too much to block the incoming jellyfish. These analysis results helped us find ways to improve the stability of the jellyfish blocking net, such as adjusting the length of the mooring line and improving the holding power. Therefore, it is expected that this technology will be applied us various underwater structures to discover the weaknesses of the structures and contribute to increasing the stability in the future.
The Northern Hemisphere extratropical prediction skill of the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) Global Data Assimilation and Prediction System (GDAPS) is examined for January 2019. The real-time prediction skill, evaluated with mean squared skill score (MSSS) of 30-90°N geopotential height field at 500 hPa (Z500), is ~8 days in the troposphere. The MSSS of Z500 considerably decreases after 3 days mainly due to the increasing eddy errors. The eddy errors are largely explained by the eddy-phased errors with minor contribution of amplitude errors. In particular, planetary-scale eddy errors are considered as a main reason of rapidly increasing errors. It turns out that such errors are associated with the blocking highs over North Pacific (NP) and Euro-Atlantic (EA) regions. The model overestimates the blocking highs over NP and EA regions in time, showing dependence of blocking predictability on blocking initializations. This result suggests that the extratropical prediction skill could be improved by better representing blocking in the model.

In this paper, we present a new analytical model for estimating the blocking performance of multi-fiber WDM networt:s with sparse and limited wavelength conversion (SLWC). The proposed model is a reduced-load approximation model that can obtain accurate estimates of blocking probability of such networks. Our model employs three new recurrence formulae to obtain the free wavelength distribution on a multi-fiber link, the free wavelength distribution after limited-range wavelength conversion and the end-to-end blocking probability of a multi-hop path, respectively. From the numerical results on the NSFNET, we demonstrate that the blocking performance of two-fiber NSFNET with three wavelength-convertible nodes, each of which translates an input wavelength to its adjacent output wavelengths, closely approximates the blocking performance of full wavelength conversion.
This paper analyzes a blocking that is due to shared resource in multiprocessor system. A proposed analysis for shared resource suggests a scalable and amendable scheduling method about task allocation. An equation of shared resource blocking is proposed by a throughput at common bus and a ratio of throughput during time period, it is included a parameter of tasks scheduling. Using this equation, a new guideline for task allocation of multiprocessor is presented. Finally, in proposed system a model simulations for the proposed blocking model is given by a deterministic ratio of shared resource.

When fitting a response surface model, the least squares estimates of the model's parameters and the prediction variance will generally depend on how the response surface design is blocked. That is, the choice of a blocking arrangement for a response surface design can have a considerable effect on estimating the mean response and on the size of the prediction variance even if the experimental runs are the same. Therefore, care should be exercised in the selection of blocks. In this paper, we prognose a graphical method for evaluating the effect of blocking in a response surface designs using cuboidal regions in the presence of a fixed block effect. This graphical method can be used to investigate how the blocking has influence on the prediction variance throughout the entire experimental region of interest when this region is cuboidal, and compare the block effect in the cases of the orthogonal and non-orthogonalblockdesigns, resfectively.
Recently, blocking harmful contents such as adult images has been widely researched. However, most of adult image blocking methods use flush color model without shape information. In this paper, we present a new adult image blocking methods based on shape and color information. In the first step, the shape is considered. In the second step, adult images are detected using skin color model. Considering both shape and color, the detection rate can be increased. We evaluate adult image detection performance using sample images.
