  • In this paper, an adaptive motion vector smoothing scheme based on weighted vector median filtering is proposed in order to eliminate the motion outliers more effectively for improving the quality of side information in frame-based distributed video coding. We use a simple motion vector outlier reliability measure for each block in a motion compensated interpolated frame and apply weighted vector median filtering only to the blocks with unreliable motion vectors. Simulation results show that the proposed adaptive motion vector smoothing algorithm improves the quality of the side information significantly while maintaining low complexity at the encoder in frame-based distributed video coding.

  • Security system with web camera remarkably has been developed at an Internet era. Using transmitted images from remote camera, the system can recognize current situation and take a proper action through web. Existing motion detection methods use simply difference image, background image techniques or block matching algorithm which establish initial block by set search area and find similar block. But these methods are difficult to detect exact motion because of useless noise. In this paper, the proposed method is updating changed background image as much as $N{\times}M$pixel mask as time goes on after get a difference between imput image and first background image. And checking image pixel can efficiently detect motion by computing fixed distance pixel instead of operate all pixel.

  • This paper presents a method of suboptimal control for nonlinear systems via block pulse transformation. The adaptive optimal control scheme proposed by J.P. Matuszewski is introduced to minimize the performance index. Nonlinear systems are controlled using the obtained optimal control via block pulse transformation. The proposed method is simple and computationally advantageous. Viablity of the this method is established with simulation results for the van der Pol equation for comparision with other methods.

  • We present an efficient algorithm for skew correction of business card images obtained by a PDA camera. The proposed method is composed of four parts: block adaptive binarization (BAB), stripe generation, skew angle calculation, and image rotation. In the BAB, an input image is binarized block by block so as to lessen the effects of irregular illumination and shadows over the input image. In the stripe generation, character string clusters are generated merging character strings and their inter-spaces, and then only clusters useful for skew angle calculation are output as stripes. In the skew angle calculation, the direction angles of the stripes are calculated using their central moments and then the skew angle of the input image is determined averaging the direction angles. In the image rotation, the input image is rotated by the skew angle. Experimental results shows that the proposed method yields correction rates of 97% for business card images.

  • A compressed video stream is very sensitive to transmission errors that may severely degrade the reconstructed image. Therefore, error resilience is an essential problem in video communications. In this paper, we propose novel temporal error concealment techniques for recovering lost or erroneously received macroblock (MB). To reduce the computational complexity, the proposed method adaptively determines the search range for each lost MB to find best matched block in the previous frame. And the original corrupted MB split into for $8{\times}8$ sub-MBs, and estimates motion vector (MV) of each sub-MB using its boundary information. Then the estimated MVs are utilized to reconstruct the damaged MB. In simulation results, the proposed method shows better performance than conventional methods in both aspects of PSNR.

  • This paper presents a method of hierarchical state estimation of the time-varying linear systems via Block-pulse function(BPF). When we estimate the state of the systems where noise is considered, it is very difficult to obtain the solutions because minimum error variance matrix having a form of matrix nonlinear differential equations is included in the filter gain calculation. Therefore, hierarchical approach is adapted to transpose matrix nonlinear differential equations to a sum of low order state space equation from and Block-pulse functions are used for solving each low order state space equation in the form of simple and recursive algebraic equation. We believe that presented methods are very attractive nd proper for state estimation of time-varying linear systems on account of its simplicity and computational convenience. • Since the publication of Alamouti's famous space-time block code, various quasi-orthogonal space-time block codes (QSTBC) for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) fading channels for more than two transmit antennas have been proposed. It has been shown that these codes cannot achieve full diversity at full rate. In this paper, we present a simple feedback scheme for rich scattering (flat Rayleigh fading) MIMO channels that improves the coding gain and diversity of a QSTBC for 2$^n$ (n=3, 4, ${\cdots}$) transmit antennas. The relevant channel state information is sent back from the receiver to the transmitter quantized to one or two bits per code block. In this way, signal transmission with an improved coding gain and diversity near to the maximum diversity order is achieved. Such high diversity can be exploited with either a maximum-likelihood receiver or low-complexity zero-forcing receiver.

A method for detecting the smoke is processed in the pre-processing movement and color. And Next, characteristics of smoke such as diffusion, texture, shape, and directionality are used to post-processing. In this paper, propose the detection method of density distribution characteristic in characteristics of smoke. the generate a candidate regions by color thresholding image in Detecting the movement of smoke to the 10Frame interval and accumulated while 1second image. then check whether the pattern of the smoke by candidate regions to applying OBTP(Object Block Ternary Pattern). every processing is Block-based processing, moving detection is decided the candidate regions of the moving object by applying an adaptive threshold to frame difference image. The decided candidate region accumulates one second and apply the threshold condition of the smoke color. make the ternary pattern compare the center block value with block value of 16 position in each candidate region of the smoke, and determine the smoke by compare the candidate ternary pattern and smoke ternary pattern.
