An assembly system (AS), a valuable tool for mass production, is generally composed of a number of workstations and a transport system. While the workstations perform some preplanned operations, the transport system moves the assemblies by special designed pallets from one station to another. One common problem associated with automatic assembly systems is that some assembly operations may have relatively long cycle times. As a consequence, the productivity, as determined by the operations with the longest cycle time, can be reduced significantly. Therefore, special forms of parallel workstations were developed to improve the performance of an assembly system. In this paper, three most commonly used parallel stations: on-line, off-line and tunnel-gated stations in a free transfer assembly system are studied via discrete event simulation. Our findings revealed that the off-line parallel system has the best performance because the two independent parallel stations can lower the buffer requirement; reduce the sensitivity to variability of processing time and balance of a line. On-line parallel systems were found to have a relatively poor performance, because the operations of two parallel stations block each other, and higher buffer capacity is required to achieve similar capacity. The tunnel-gated system was more efficient than the on-line system since the first parallel station can operate independently. More importantly, we have quantified the productivity of the three different strategies mentioned. Engineers can choose the optimal strategies for installing parallel stations under their working environment.

In this research, a high-performance ultrasonic positioning system is proposed to track the positions of an indoor mobile object. Composed of an ultrasonic sender (mobile object) and a receiver (anchor), the system employs three ultrasonic time-off-flights (TOFs) and trilateration to estimate the positions of the object with an accuracy of sub-centimeter. On the other hand, because ultrasonic waves are interfered by temperature, wind and various obstacles obstructing the propagation while propagating in air, ultrasonic pulse debounce technique and Kalman filter were applied to TOF and position calculation, respectively, to compensate for the interference and to obtain more accurate moving object position. To perform tasks in real time, ultrasonic signals are processed full-digitally with a Zynq SoC, and as a software design tool, Vivado IDE(integrated design environment) is used to design the whole signal processing system in hierarchical block diagrams. And, a hardware/software co-design is implemented, where the digital circuit portion is designed in the Zynq's fpga and the software portion is c-coded in the Zynq's processors by using the baremetal multiprocessing scheme in which the c-codes are distributed to dual-core processors, cpu0 and cpu1. To verify the usefulness of the proposed system, experiments were performed and the results were analyzed, and it was confirmed that the moving object could be tracked with accuracy of sub-cm.

Independent component analysis (ICA) is a signal processing technique used for un-mixing of the mixed recorded signals. In wireless communication, ICA is mainly used in multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems. Most of the existing work regarding the ICA applications in MIMO systems assumed static or quasi static wireless channels. Performance of the ICA algorithms degrades in case of time varying wireless channels and is further degraded if the data block lengths are reduced to get the quasi stationarity. In this paper, we propose an ICA based MIMO transceiver that performs well in time varying wireless channels, even for smaller data blocks. Simulation is performed over quadrature amplitude modulated (QAM) signals. Results show that the proposed transceiver system outperforms the existing MIMO system utilizing the FastICA and the OBAICA algorithms in both the transceiver systems for time varying wireless channels. Performance improvement is observed for different data blocks lengths and signal to noise ratios (SNRs).
In this paper, we propose a new compression method for the edge image by analyzing the characteristics and the distribution of pixel values of the edge image. The pixel values of the edge image have the Gaussian distribution around '0', and most of the pixel values are `0`. By these analyses we suggest the Zero-Based codec that expresses all values in a CU by a single bit flag. Also, in order to reduce the computational complexity of the proposed codec, the block partition and the intra-prediction techniques are proposed by using edge information like the number of each edge direction, the distribution and the amplitude of a major edge direction in the CU. Experimental results show that the proposed codec leads to a slighter distortion in Y domain than that of HEVC, but has far faster processing speed up to 53 times while it maintains the similar image quality compared to HEVC.

In this paper, we propose a method to extract the area of appendix from ultrasonographic image via computational vision. A series of image processing techniques such as Ends-in search stretching for enhancing the brightness contrast, block binarization, grassfire algorithm for extracting lower part of fascia, and fuzzy sigma binarization method to finalize the appendix area are used to achieve our goal. The strength of this paper is using fuzzy sigma binarization instead of other binarization technique to handle the sensitivity of extracting the target area from regio hypogastrica. The experiment verifies the efficacy of the proposed method successfully.

In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm for the RDO mode decision in H.264/AVC encoder. Based on the properties of DCT coefficients and the RDO mode decision processing, we derive a new condition for detecting an error block having all-zero DCT coefficient (AZCB). (I)DCT, (I)Q, and entropy coding are skipped for AZCBs in the proposed algorithm. It makes the reduction of the computational complexity for the RDO mode decision. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves computational saving over 40% compared to the conventional method.
Using an expanded DES key, we suggest a block cipher algorithm to generate and to use a variable P box. We also present an efficient way for the implementation of variable P box at each round. Using counter examples on Differential Cryptanalysis(DC) and Linear Cryptanalysis(LC), we show that the suggested algorithm is strong enough to overcome those attacks. Compared with the real key bits of triple DES(3DES), the new algorithm is much safer in the points of the exhaustive attack. The results of computer simulations show that the new algorithm is almost 3 times faster than 3DES regarding the cipher process time.

Output data streams of the MSC contain flags, Headers and image data according to the established protocols and data formats. Especially the Header added to each data lines contain information of a line sync, a line counter and, ancillary data which consist of ancillary identification bit and one ancillary data byte. This information is used by ground station to calculate the geographic coordinates of the image and get the on-board time and several EOS(Electro-Optical Subsystem) parameters used at the time of imaging. Therefore, the EGSE(Electrical Ground Supporting Equipment) that is used for testing MSC has to have functions of interpreting and displaying this Header information correctly following the protocols. This paper describes the design of the header data processing module which is in EOSEGSE. This module provides users with various test functions such as header validation, ancillary block validation, line-counter and In-line counter validation checks which allow convenient and fast test on imagery data.
One of future remote sensing techniques for transportation application is vehicle detection from the space, which could be the basis of measuring traffic volume and recognizing traffic condition in the future. This paper introduces an approach to vehicle detection using image object segmentation approach. The object-oriented image processing is particularly beneficial to high-resolution image classification of urban area, which suffers from noisy components in general. The project site was Dae-Jeon metropolitan area and a set of true color aerial images at 10cm resolution was used for the test. Authors investigated a variety of parameters such as scale, color, and shape and produced a customized solution for vehicle detection, which is based on a knowledge-based hierarchical model in the environment of eCognition. The highest tumbling block of the vehicle detection in the given data sets was to discriminate vehicles in dark color from new black asphalt pavement. Except for the cases, the overall accuracy was over 90%.
This paper describes the fabrication and characterization of a differential pressure type integrated mass-flow controller made of stainless steel for reactive and corrosive gases. The fabricated mass-flow controller is composed of a normally closed valve and differential pressure sensor. A stacked solenoid actuator mounted on a base-block is utilized for precise and rapid control of gas flow. The differential pressure flow sensor consisting of four diaphragms can detect a flow rate by deflection of diaphragm. By a feedback control from the flow sensor to the valve actuator, it is possible to keep the flow rate constant. This device shows a fast response less than 0.3 sec. Also, this device shows accuracy less than 0.1% of full scale. It is confirmed that this device is not attacked by toxic gas, so the integrated mass-flow controller can be applied to advanced semiconductor processes which need fine mass-flow control corrosive gases with fast response.
