The bleaching is one of the worst factors which leads to the damage of the human hair. The cuticle of the human hair is injured by the alkali that is one of the chief ingredients of a bleaching agent. The alkali component of the bleaching solution chemically reacts with human hair, reducing the tenacity and dissolving the cuticle layer. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of bleaching time and temperature on the physical properties and morphology. The results were as follows. 1. The stress-strain curves for human hair indicated the three distinct regions, such as Hookean region, Yield region and post-Yield region. The tenacity of hair is reduced gradually with an increase of bleaching time. Under these same conditions, elongation of the hair increased. 2. The greatest drop in tenacity for hair occured between $40^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$ of bleaching temperature. 3. Compared with the virgin hair, bleached hair showed a slower rate of weight reduction in the TGA thermogram. The rate decreased gradually as the bleaching time and temperature increased. 4. As the bleaching conditions reached time and temperature extremes, the human hair cuticle became more damaged. The cuticle layers seemed to have dissolved, as seen in the SEM photographs.
This study was investigated and analyzed the physiological reaction mechanisms and the factors of the chlorophyll bleaching phenomenon on leaf burning-disease of the Ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer). Chlorophyll bleaching phenomenon was mainly caused by the photooxidation of singlet oxygen and the autooxidation of hydrogen peroxide($H_2O_2$) accumulation resulted from inactivation of catalase and peroxidase. Chlorophyll bleaching phenomenon was remarkably accelerated by addition of saponin.

The bleach efficiency between PY and YP bleaching of pulps, which were deinked in neutral (cellulase) and alkaline (NaOH, NaOH/${Na_2}{SiO_3}$) ranges, and were treated on kneader, was compared in this study. The brightness of pulps (84.8~88.4% ISO) which were deinked in alkaline or neutral ranges increased up to 88.4%~88.8% ISO after PY or YP bleaching. There was no difference in the brightness between PY and YP bleaching. And the dirt count of bleached pulps was similar each other at the range of 17~38 ppm. The tensile index of bleached pulps was slightly higher in PY bleaching than those in YP bleaching. While with the treatment of kneading, the brightness and dirt count decreased remarkably compared to those of no-kneading. However, the sharp difference in the brightnesses or in dirt count of bleached pulps decreased after bleaching. The brightness of bleached pulps at YP stages was only numberically higher than those at PY stages without regard to the treatment of kneading. Therefore, in the case of the neutral deinkiing process, the conversion of PY bleaching stages to YP bleaching stages was profitable to water loop system, and was harmless in the aspect of the bleach efficiency.
This paper reports the effects of bleaching of alpaca tops and dyeing of bleached alpaca tops/yarns on the quality of tops and yarns. A dark brown alpaca top was bleached with hydrogen peroxide. Two bleaching methods were tried for effectiveness of color removal. A portion of each bleached top was dyed after bleaching. Color parameters were examined for unbleached, bleached and bleached/dyed tops, these tops were then converted into yarns of different twist levels and counts using a worsted spinning system. Some of the bleached yarn from each bleaching method was dyed in a package dye vat to compare the difference of top dyeing versus yarn package dyeing on yarn quality. Fiber diameter, yarn strength, yarn evenness, yarn hairiness and fiber degradation were tested to examine the effects of bleaching and dyeing on these properties at top and yarn stages. A processing route for bleaching and dyeing alpaca fiber was recommended.
Statement of problem: There is a reduction of dentin bonding strength when the bonding procedure is carried out immediately after bleaching with peroxides. Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate a proper time interval for in-office bleaching technique using 35% hydrogen peroxide. Material and methods: Fifty extracted non-caries human third molars were used in this study. Buccal enamel of each tooth was removed and polished by 600 grits silicone carbide paper. They were randomly divided into five groups and bleached 35% hydrogen peroxide except control group. All groups were bonded with Single Bond/Z 350 after each time intervals ; Group-A: control, no bleaching treatment. Group-B: resin bonding immediately after bleaching. Group-C: resin bonding 1day after bleaching. Group-D: resin bonding 2 days after bleaching. Group-E: resin bonding 7days after bleaching. Shear bond strengths were measured with a cross-head speed of 1.0 mm/min using an Instron machine. The data of results were statistically analyzed by analysis of variance(ANOVA) and Tukey multiple comparison test.(P=.05) Results: There were significant decreases in mean shear strength in immediately bonding group after bleaching. The reduction of bond strengths was 78% compared with the group of no bleaching treatment. Group C showed the recovery of 51%, and Group D showed recovery of 63%. Both of them have no statistical difference with non-bleaching group. Group E showed no statistical difference with no bleaching treatment group. Conclusion: Dentin bonding strength is significantly reduced when bonding is performed immediately after bleaching for in-office bleaching regimens using 35% hydrogen peroxide, and increases as time goes by. One week of elapsed time between bleaching and resin bonding significantly increases bonding strengths for the in-office bleaching technique.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of bleaching technique on the shear bond strength of esthetic restorative materials to bovine enamel. The bleaching agent was used 35% $H_2O_2$(Hi-Lite, Shofu, U.S.A.). Experimental groups were divided into two divisions as group A and B. Experimental A groups for the effect of number of bleaching were as follows ; Group Al : no bleaching Group A2 : bleaching 1 time ( for 5 minutes ) Group A3 : bleaching 3 times ( each for 5 minutes ) Group A4 : bleaching 6 times ( each for 5 minutes ) Group A5 : bleaching 9 times ( each for 5 minutes ) Experimental B groups for the effect of storage period in artificial saliva were as follows ; Group B1 : not stored in artificial saliva after bleaching Group B2 : stored in artificial saliva for 1 day after bleaching Group B3 : stored in artificial saliva for 1 week after bleaching Group B4 : stored in artificial saliva for 2 weeks after bleaching Group B5 : stored in artificial saliva for 4 weeks after bleaching Composite resin and glass ionomer cement were bonded to all specimens, and the shear bond strength between enamel and r~storative material were measured in Instron Universal Testing Machine(Instron, 4467, U.S.A,), Additionally, the bleached enamel specimens were examed after etching with 37.4% $H_3PO_4$ for 1 min under SEM(S-2300, Hitachi Co., Japan) to observe the effect of bleaching procedure on enamel surface morphology. The result were as follows ; 1. In SEM findings, bleached bovine enamel was found to be superficially rough. 2. In bleached bovine enamel, the effect of acid etching was reduced with the increase of number of bleaching. 3. The mean shear bond strength of composite resin and glass ionomer cement to bleached enamel surface tended to be lower than those to non-bleached enamel surface. 4. With the increase of number of bleaching, the shear bond strength of composite resin and glass ionomer cement to bleached enamel were progressively decreased. 5. Increasing the, storage period in artificial saliva after bleaching, the shear bond strength of composite resin and glass ionomer cement to bleached enamel were progressively increased. 6. The mean shear bond strength of glass ionomer cement to bleached bovine enamel tended to be clearly lower than that of composite resin.

Objective: To test the null hypothesis that no difference exists between the effects of at-home bleaching and in-office bleaching on shear bond strength (SBS) with bracket bonding at 4 different time intervals after dental bleaching. Methods: Ninety extracted human premolars were randomly divided into 9 groups (n = 10) according to the bleaching methods used (at-home bleaching and in-office bleaching) and the storage time in artificial saliva (30 min, 1 day, 2 weeks, and 3 weeks before bonding). The control group was stored in artificial saliva for 7 days. Brackets were bonded with the Transbond XT adhesive system, and SBS testing was performed. The adhesive remnant index (ARI) was used to assess the amount of resin remaining on the enamel surfaces after debonding. The SBS data were analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the Tukey test. For the ARI, the Kruskal-Wallis test was performed. Significance for all statistical tests was predetermined to be p < 0.05. Results: The SBS of the unbleached group was significantly higher (p < 0.05) than that of the bleached groups (except for the group bonded 30 min after at-home bleaching). Conclusions: The null hypothesis was not totally rejected. All bleaching groups tested had decreased SBS of the brackets to the enamel, except for the group bonded 30 min after at-home bleaching. The SBS returned to values close to those of the unbleached enamel within 3 weeks following bleaching.

Tooth bleaching was being done more than 100 years ago, but the standard for vital tooth bleaching for the last quarter century has been the use of hydrogen peroxide with heat or with a combination of heat and light. The major disadvantages of this process are high cost, unpredictability of results, and patient discomfort. In March, 1989, the dental world was introduced to a new vital tooth bleaching process by Haywood and Heymann in their article "Nightguard vital bleaching(NGVB)." Interestingly enough, this simple technique could have been developed years ago if we had known about the chemical effects of carbamide peroxide on tooth structure. NGVB has created a resurgence in the area of bleaching, primarily because of its relative ease of application, the safety of the materials used, low cost, and the high percentage of successful treatments. This article was to explain simply about all around NGVB(etiology of stains, bleaching chemicals and mechanisms, bleaching effectiveness, side effect, documentation, indications, treatment therapy, laboratory procedure, case reports)
Hair bleaching is a treatment process in which the melanic pigment is oxidized by hydrogen peroxide. With the increase of the number of treatments, $1{\sim}10$ levels of various colors develop, the hair luster diminishes, and the appearance becomes very rough. In this study, by changing the number of hair bleaching and bleaching conditions, the changes in the degree of hair damage and its process were observed through the use of scanning electron microscopy. The color changes were also compared through the use of spectrophotometer. In order to study the physical changes of the bleached hairs and to search for the optimum conditions to keep the hair damages minimum during bleaching, tensile properties were measured and reviewed. By increasing the number of hair bleaching and by the severe conditions, the scales became eroded and the protection layers were decreased, and the oxidation reached the inner sectors resulting in rough surface and fibrillation. The surface of the hairs became bright yellowish and transparent by the bleaching of melanic pigments or by the destruction of pigments. With the increase of bleaching degree, in terms of physical changes, the breaking strength decreased while the elongation increased a little.

Xylan can be applied to improve the strength properties of paper; however the optical properties, such as brightness, are decreased significantly. To solve that problem, an applicable bleaching process is therefore desired. The aim of this research was to investigate the impact of hydrogen peroxide bleaching on hardwood kraft pulp pretreated with birchwood xylan by measuring optical properties (whiteness, brightness, opacity) as well as physical properties (tensile index, tearing index, bulk) of handsheets made from the bleached pulp. Hydrogen peroxide bleaching, as a kind of totally chlorine free (TCF) bleaching method, is quite important industrially for chemical pulp. In our work, the process variables of peroxide bleaching including bleaching temperature, time, initial pH and $MgSO_4$ dosage were studied. The results showed that both good mechanical properties and optical properties could be achieved when the operating parameters were controlled properly and therefore hydrogen peroxide bleaching was proved to be a suitable method for bleaching hardwood kraft pulp with adsorption of birchwood xylan.
