Mechanical Properties of PVC Composite Containing Iron Dust (제철 분진을 함유한 PVC 복합체 수지의 기계적 성질)

  • Mechanical properties of PVC[poly(vinylchloride)] composites containing the dust from blast and converter (Kwangyang Iron Co.) were investigated as a function of dust content. Tensile strength is increased, when the blast dust is mixed with PVC to the extent of 8.83wt % and impact strength is not significantly changed. From these results, it is suggested that blast dust containing CaO, SiO, MgO, $A1_2O_3$ and metallugical particle is compatible with PVC. Thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) showed that residual weight(%) at temperature $600^{\circ}C$ increased with the amount of blast dust and differential scanning calorimetry(DCS) showed that the thermal stability of PVC composite was increased when the weight ratio of blast dust was 8.83wt % X-ray diffractometry measurement also showed their blends and structures.

  • Taiwan's annual steel production reached 21.29 million tons. EAF accounted for about half of this total, or 11.2 million tons in 2008. The other 10.09 million tons came from blast furnace and converter process methods. The annual EAF carbon steel production is about 9.76 million tons, and the quantity of dust generated from the EAF process is 160 thousand tons, or about 16kg of dust per ton of steel was produced. In 2009, there is Walez process for carbon steel EAF dust recycling, and the capacity is about 70,000 tons per year; and there is RHF/SAF process for stainless steel EAF dust, the capacity is 60,000 tons per year which is enough to treat stainless steel EAF dust in Taiwan. There are many new treatment facilities processes will be that introduced to recycle the EAF dust in the near future, these processes will perform smoothly and successfully in Taiwan. The estimation of recycled crude ZnO is about 90,000 tons each year. The recycling and upgrading crude zinc oxide will be the next important issue in Taiwn zinc and steel industry.

  • Calcium ferrite is more effective binder for making sintered ore and flux for steel making because of it's low melting temperature. In this Study, calcium ferrite was made by calcinating method in the cement manufacturing process in order to reduce manufacturing costs and increase productivity. Limestone and calcination sludge were used as CaO source, steelmaking sludge, blast furnace dust and iron ore were used as Fe-bearing raw materials. The sintering temperature of specimens is in the range of $950{\sim}1170^{\circ}C$. For Calcium ferrite can be used 'binder for making sintered ore' or 'flux for converter/electric furnace' with a low melting point properties, the raw material characteristics and sintering properties were investigated.
