  • This research has a significant meaning to break from the urban ecology-oriented biotope research and realize the importance of rural landscape as a reserve area for systemizing the types of rural biotope. The results are as follows. First of all, items for classification of 16 rural biotope areas are designed and total 9 itmes in slope from spatial structural point of view and 7 items in minute-variety from functional point of view. Also, as the result of on-site research on case areas based on classified items, there are 46 types of rural biotope such as coniferous forest, hedgerow and so on. For example, it is proven that uncultivated stripe showed the most frequent emergence. As a result of cluster analysis of average linkage method between clusters, 12 clusters are classified as a clusters and 13 biotope types are re-corrected and complemented through brainstorming process and then total 12 clusters are selected as final rural biotope type groups. As a rural biotope type cluster and character analysis according to types based on on-site research and documentary survey, for example, it is analyzed that the ratio of transmissible covering ratio is 100%, the ratio of green coverage is 90% in 'woodland in cultivated area biotope type cluster'.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze of biotope types and to develop assessment for forest ecosystem evaluation method. Vegetation types divided into 27 types. Considering the vegetation types, vegetation structures, DBH, potentials, and disturbance, it was decided to apply 58 biotope types and survey site's biotopes were divided into 24 biotope types. Assessment indicators were naturaliness, diversity, rarity, stability, potential, and disturbance. The areas given the first grade in ecological value included 9.2% of the site's total land. Areas with the second grade accounted for 43.0% of the total land. Areas with the third grade made up 47.8% of the site and mostly they were areas with dominance of fired area and artificial forest. To plan to build naturally-development for Site, there should be plans to conserve areas with the first grades. For the areas with the second, and third grades, plans for ecological land use based on conservation and restoration in terms of securing biodiversity are needed.

  • The objective of this research is to study the method to produce biotope map by using GIS. Surveying and analyzing the situation of biotope map in the country, it was found that biotope map should be produced to be utilized in establishing urban plan and environment preservation plan. Considering the history of materials, preparation method and type of use, the types of original materials can be classified into 3 types, namely, data based on configuration map, the existing thematic map and materials of surveying natural ecology. Biotope map is composed of configuration thematic map that shows the shape and position of surface, urban thematic map that is the standard of unit biotope shape and urban ecology map that shows the urban ecologic situation. Extracted and processed from the original material, each thematic map is produced as biotope map that shows the type of biotope. It is expected that biotope map can be utilized in the area of urban plan including establishment of basic urban plan and urban management plan as well as environment planning area including evaluation of environment influence, establishment of environment preservation plan, consolidated environment management for natural environment and life environment.

  • New Seoul Town is a new town in Seoul Mapo-Gu, Which is planed by Seoul metropolitan government. There are Nanji Waste reclaimed land and Seoul world-cup stadium, which is under construction in the new town. This study is executed for urban nature conservation by assessing the biotope in the new town. The biotope map is mae by the selective mapping method, and assessing the biotope is executed by a quick method, which is originated with R. Wittig and Scheriber(1983). The assessment criteria include the period of development, area, rarity and variety of habitat condition. In the result from this study, biotope type of the new town is classified eight types, and all biotope type is valuable for nature conservation. The reason of this result is because of little natural area which is rice field, farm field, forest, swampy land, etc, except New Seoul Town, in Seoul Mapo-Gu. And so, Biotope in New A Seoul Town, must be conserved and restored in new town urban planning.

  • This study aimed to suggest a framework for biotope classification and evaluation based on habitat values to rationally establish management areas of national parks. The factors and indicators related to the biotope classification and evaluation were established based on integration from those of previous studies. The decision tree evaluation process was applied to the classification and evaluation of the biotope type level. The evaluation of the biotope group level was carried out to determine the weight and the AUEM (Adding Up Estimation Matrix) was applied for the final grades. As a result, the biotope type of Seolaksan National Park was classified into 43 types and Odaesan National Park was classified into 41 types. Bukhansan National Park, which is located in a metropolitan city, was classified into 49 types. In terms of biotope evaluation, grade III had a ratio of 50.6%, the highest in Seolaksan national park. The ratios of grade I and grade II, which have great ecological-value, were respectively 12.0% and 36.5%. Grade II was 48.2%, the highest ratio in Odaesan National Park. The ratios of grades I and II were 10.8% and 37.9%, respectively. Grade III was 54.8%, the highest ratio in Bukhansan national park, and the ratios of grade I and grade II, which have great ecological-value were, respectively, 11.4% and 25.7%. The biotope values of major national parks were evaluated according to the type focusing on the actual vegetation. This framework can be considered for application to the spatial management of other types of protected areas.

  • The purpose of this study is to derive policy suggestions and new orientations for biotope mapping in Korea from a review of case studies on the classification of biotope typesin Germany. This study was conducted in the following manner: First, the related literature and data on biotopes in Germany was collected. Second, the representative examples at the provincial government level and urban and residential areas were selected. Finally, the characteristics of biotope types, biotope classification systems, and biotope classification criteria were reviewed. The results of reviewing the case examples in Germany are as follows: First, the biotope types at the provincial government level were composed of patterns which existed mostly in natural areas and the corresponding areas of their conditions. Those in urban and residential areas were made up of patterns which were distributed in urban areas and their peripheries. Second, the biotope classification systems at the provincial government level consisted of three steps:large, medium and small. Those in urban and residential areas were made up of two steps: medium and small. However, it is strongly recommended to introduce the biotope classification system composed of three steps. Third, the biotope classification criteria at the provincial government level considered ecological factors and anthropogenic factors except land use forms. Those in urban and residential areas reflected mostly anthropogenic factors and ecological factors. In conclusion, this study suggests that future biotope surveys and mapping in Korea should be investigated not only in urban areas but also in natural and semi-natural areas. In addition, a specified biotope type classification system should be established in Korea.

  • This research has a meaning to provide basic data for eco-friendly way of district unit plans and ecological landscape planning by evaluation of biotope preservation value at the level of district unit and designating land development of the site, the whole area of Sinseo-dong (Dong-gu, Daegu metropolitan city) for research site. The summary of analysis result is as follows. As a result of classification of biotope types on the research site, it is divided into 11 biotope groups such as a residential biotope group and 51 specific biotope types which is subordinate to the groups. As a result of the first value assessment on classified biotope types, there are 16 types of natural rivers which is full of vegetation as a I class. Also it is analysed as 9 types of IIclass, 14 of IIIclass, 8 of IVclass, and 4 of Vclass. In particular, in light of a wildlife habitat, EB, in case of broad-leaved tree of mixed forest assessed as a II class, was classified into Iclass which is one-step upgraded as a final class with the analysis as there is a structural characteristic (more than 71% of low density, 50 years of age-class). As a result of second assessment, it is analysed that there are 17 special sites (1a,1b) and 33 special sites (2a, 2b, 2c) respectively for preservation of species and biotope. Particularly, in case of the No. 27 space, it was assessed that it has the value of about medium (IIIclass) level, but its value was upgraded with the on-spot detailed investigation that most of Aristolochia contorta, designated as a rare plant by Ministry of Environment, is growing. It is regarded that the above-mentioned research result on evaluation of biotope preservation value is expected to provide very important basic materials for future district unit plans and smooth integration with landscape ecology plans and eco-friendly space development.

  • The purpose of this research was to present characteristics for the classification of biotopes and classification method of biotopes as basic data for ecological landscape planning in Metropolitan Daegu. The results of this study were as follows. 1) The study identified fifteen characteristics for classification of biotopes. Ecological landscape characteristics were divided into structural and functional factors. There are six structural factors such an inclination, and nine functional factors such as temperature. 2) The study area was separated into sixty eight biotope types. For example, an industrial district was divided into two biotope types: a biotope type of an industrial district with abundant green space, and a biotope type of an industrial district with scarce green space. 3) In the result of cluster analysis using the average linkage method between groups, biotope groups were divided into fifteen clusters and biotope groups were divided into seven clusters. Each cluster was named according to the features of a descriptive statistics analysis. For example, cluster 8 was identified as a biotope type with an impermeable pavement rate of more than 90 percent and an afforestation rate under 10 percent. 4) Fifteen biotope groups were converted to land use patterns for remote application and utilization of urban biotope in city planning. Biotope groups of a building area beyond an intermediate floor with an afforestation rate under 20-30 percent was converted to a land use pattern such as a tall apartment complex or commercial district. When examining the characteristics that were established in this research, there was a limit to achieve the objective of grade-classification because of a lack of related basic data. The research of landscape ecological characteristics for the classification of biotopes could not be completed due to a lack of time and resources, thus the study of ecological landscape characteristics will be accomplished over time.

  • This study aims to classify the biotope types and evaluate its functions for acquiring the basic information which can support the landscape ecological management of the urban forest in the case of the three parks in Daegu metropolitan city and then to analyze vegetation landscape patterns. The biotope classification was mostly divided into 5 to 6 biotope type groups in the high units and 15 to 20 biotope types belong to them and then could know that the more big the park size, the more diverse and large the biotope types and its average area. The biotope grade over the three parks was dominating low rank grade (1 to 3 grade) 72.7% that forest organism is inadequate as live, and high grade (7 to 9 grade) did not appear entirely. Most in Biotope function estimation were appeared less than the middle rank grade and biotope area is bigger, those grade rises and temperature could know that is fallen. Vegetation landscape patterns was very simple because only two kinds of Robinia pseudo-acacia and Quercus acutissima is appeared as the dominated landscape elements in all of the three parks. And also because average area of those elements is generally 1ha or so, there was much problems in consecutiveness of functional role as forest ecosystem component. Conclusively, Ecological landscape management need to improve Biotope diversity and functionality, and it secures ecological minimal area and space linkage.
