Immobilization of Heavy metal mechanism in Contaminated Coastal Sediment using Biostimulant Ball (BSB) with Modified Zeolite

  • Although many metals contaminated sediment from coastal area contain both anionic and cationic heavy metals, the current remediation technologies are not effective for stabilize heavy metals of both anionic and cationic elements from contaminated coastal region. the present work investigated the efficiency and mechanism of immobilization of Fe, Zn, Cr, Cu, Pb and Cd metal solutions in modified zeolite based biostimulant ball. Biostimulant ball containing acetate, nitrate and sulphate which are enhance the activity of marine microorganisms and it can act as electron donors and electron acceptors. Modified zeolite and chelating agent is greatly enhance the metal stabilization due to increased immobility of the analysed metals. The XRD, FT-IR and SEM of modified zeolite which cheating agents containing heavy metals were investigated. The results indicated that heavy metals could be effectively immobilized in modified zeolite and chelating agents in BSB added sediment. The immobilization of heavy metals in modified zeolite and chelating agents along with BSB could be due to stabilize of heavy metal cations. Immobilization of heavy metals using BSB with modified zeolite and chelating agent has lower cost effect and enhance the sediment quality.

  • The variety of organic and inorganic pollutants are introduced to coastal sediment and making highly contaminated due to rapid development of industralization and economic development. Numerous contaminants are release into marine sediment and it significantly affect marine aquatic environment. In the present study stated the optimize the biostimulant ball (BSB) in coastal sedimentand stabilse the heavy metals present in the sediment. The effective variables like BSB size, distance and month variables on Cu stabilization was determined by using Response surface methodology(RSM). The analysis of variance (ANOVA) and coefficient determination (R2) of Cu reduction 0.9610 and maximum stabilisation was obtained in 3cm ball size and 5.5cm distance and 4 month interval time. This result revealed that the BSB in effective for Cu reduction in coastal sediment.

  • The Coastal sediment is highly contaminated due to ship transportation, industries discharges and urban sources. Various contaminants release into seawater and settle in marine sediment and it significantly affect marine eco system. In the present study evaluated the optimization of slow release biostimulant ball (BSB) in coastal sediment in busan. The effective variables like BSB size, distance and month variables on VS reduction was determined by using Response surface methodology(RSM). The analysis of variance (ANOVA) and coefficient determination (R2) of VS was 0.9369 and maximum reduction of VS was obtained in 3cm ball size and 5.5cm distance and 4 month interval time. This result revealed that the BSB in effective VS reduction in coastal sediment.

  • Application of biostimulants, humate-based products marketed as aids to plant establishment, may increase root growth of turfgrass and maple tree. We tested three types of biostimulants on root growth of creeping bentgrass (Agrosfic palustris Huds.) and maple (Acer rubrum L.). Roots were first observed in the 2-3 weeks after treatments. Biostimulant-treated tufgrass and tree had more root length than nontreated controls. Turfgrass nutrient absorption was increased with biostimulant application.

  • 오염물질이 처리된 해양저질을 이용하여 황산염, 질산염 및 아세테이트 등의 생물활성물질을 첨가하여 생물활성촉진볼을 제작하였으며, 셀룰로스 아세테이트 코팅(CA)과 폴리설펀 코팅(PS) 방법으로 표면을 처리하여 생물활성촉진물질의 용출율을 조절하고자 하였다. SEM 분석으로 평가한 생물활성촉진제의 형태적 특성은 CA의 경우, 내부코팅층은 비교적 큰 공극이 다소 존재하였으며, 외부 코팅층은 균일하고 촘촘한 벌집모양의 공극이 분포되어있었고, PS의 경우, 내부코팅층과 외부코팅층의 모양이 동일하고, 무공극층이 형성된 것으로 나타났다. 코팅방법에 따른 생물활성촉진물질의 용출율은 증류수조건에서보다 해수조건에서 다소 높았고, 질산염이 황산염에 배해 다소 빨리 용출되었으며, 정체조건에 비해 난류조건에서 약 50%이상 높았다.

  • Sediments play a major role in determining pollution pattern in aquatic systems and reflecting the pollutant deposition. In the present study analysis the depth effect of organic pollutants and heavy metals using slow release biostimulant ball (BSB) in coastal sediment. BSB size fixed at 3cm, depth varied from 0cm to 10cm depth and 1 and 3 month interval period was carried out for the study. The organic pollutants of chemical oxygen demand, total solids and volatile solids were significantly changed at the surface sediment (0cm)in 1 month and 3 month interval time using BSB. In contrast, sediment depth increase upto 10cm the reduction percentage decrease like to control. Vertical distribution of heavy metals are not consistent from the surface layer toward the bottom layers. Heavy metals fractions were significantly changes, the exchangeable fraction was reduced and other organic and residual fractions were stabilized percentage are increased. This finding concluded BSB is effective for reduce organic pollutants, heavy metals stabilization from the contaminated sediment.

오염된 연안저질의 현장생물정화를 위한 미생물활성촉진제의 용출특성 연구 (Study on the elution of biostimulant for in-situ bioremediation of contaminated coastal sediment)

  • 자생하는 미생물의 활성을 촉진시킴으로써 오염된 연안퇴적물을 현장생물정화하기 위하여 사용하는 미생물활성촉진제의 용출특성에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 미생물의 생리활성을 촉진하는 황산염, 질산염을 오염되지 않은 연안퇴적물과 혼합하였으며, 혼합물을 볼 형태로 만든 뒤 셀룰로스 아세테이트 및 폴리설펀으로 각각 표면을 코팅하여 볼 형태의 미생물활성촉진제 2종을 제작하였다. 또한, 황산염과 질산염이 용해된 생리활성물질 용액에 입상활성탄을 침지시켜 입자상 미생물활성촉진제를 별도로 준비하였다. 셀룰로스 아세테이트로 코팅한 미생물활성촉진제를 전자현미경으로 관찰한 결과 코팅층 내부는 다소 큰 공극이 불규칙적으로 존재하였으나 코팅층 외부는 촘촘한 벌집모양의 공극들이 분포되어있었다. 폴리설펀으로 코팅한 미생물활성촉진제의 경우는 코팅층의 내부와 외부 모두 공극이 없는 치밀한 구조를 보였다. 셀룰로스 아세테이트로 코팅한 미생물활성촉진제의 생리활성물질 용출율은 폴리설펀으로 코팅한 미생물활성촉진제에 비해 증류수와 해수에서 모두 높았으며, 입자상 미생물활성촉진제로부터의 생리활성물질의 용출율은 폴리설펀으로 코팅한 미생물활성촉진제에 비해 약 9배 이상 높았다. 미생물활성촉진제로부터 생리활성물질들의 용출속도는 정체조건에 비해 난류조건에서 약 3배 이상 빠른 것으로 평가되었으며, 생리활성물질들 중에서 질산염은 황산염에 비해 빠르게 용출되는 특성을 보였다.

  • The Study mainly focused on bioremediation of 16 types PAHs and heavy metals in contaminated marine sediments at filed scale study using slow release biostimulant ball (BSB) was investigated. In our experiment, filed scale study ($1m{\times}1m$) was performed and the effect of BSB on PAHs and heavy metals were analysed. BSB size and distance were determined and optimum size and distance were 3cm and 5.5cm respectively. BSB containing nutrients of acetate, nitrate and sulphate which can enhance the activity of microorganism to increase degrading capacity of PAHs and enhance the heavy metals stabilization also to decrease bioavailability. PAHs containing 16 types of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 rings compound PAHs were found and to degrade upto 100% in 2, 3 rings, upto 90 to 94% in 4 and 5 rings and 6 ring compound was degrade up to 70%. For heavy metals stabilization percentage was increased using BSB sediment and exchangeable portion was decreased and residual portion was increased in all analysed heavy metals. BSB enhance the PAHs degradation and stabilization of heavy metals percentages. BSB is a promising method for remediation of PAHs and heavy metals in contaminated marine sediments.

A Biostimulant Preparation of Brown Seaweed Ascophyllum nodosum Suppresses Powdery Mildew of Strawberry

  • Strawberry, an important fruit crop, is susceptible to a large number of pathogens that reduce fruit quality and productivity. In this study, the effect of a biostimulant prepared from Ascophyllum nodosum extract (ANE) (0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.3%) was evaluated on powdery mildew progression under greenhouse and field conditions. In the greenhouse, application of 0.2% ANE showed maximum reduction in powdery mildew progression as compared to the control. Forty-eight hour post-inoculation, foliar spray of 0.2% ANE reduced spore germination by 75%. Strawberry leaves sprayed with ANE showed higher total phenolic and flavonoid content in response to powdery mildew infection. Furthermore, application of ANE elicited defense response in strawberry plants by induction of defense-related enzymes, such as phenylalanine ammonia lyase, polyphenol oxidase, and peroxidase activity. In field conditions, foliar spray of 0.2% ANE showed a reduction of 37.2% of natural incidence of powdery mildew infection as compared to the control. ANE sprayed plant also reduces the severity of powdery mildew infection under natural conditions. These results indicate that application of ANE induces the strawberry plant's active defense against powdery mildew infection by induction of secondary metabolism and regulating the activities of defense-related enzymes.
