Development of the DVH management software for the biologically-guided evaluation of radiotherapy plan

  • Purpose: To develop the dose volume histogram (DVH) management software which guides the evaluation of radiotherapy (RT) plan of a new case according to the biological consequences of the DVHs from the previously treated patients. Materials and Methods: We determined the radiation pneumonitis (RP) as an biological response parameter in order to develop DVH management software. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of lung cancer patients treated with curative 3-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT). The biological event was defined as RP of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) grade III or more. Results: The DVH management software consisted of three parts (pre-existing DVH database, graphical tool, and $Pinnacle^3$ script). The pre-existing DVH data were retrieved from 128 patients. RP events were tagged to the specific DVH data through retrospective review of patients' medical records. The graphical tool was developed to present the complication histogram derived from the preexisting database (DVH and RP) and was implemented into the radiation treatment planning (RTP) system, $Pinnacle^3$ v8.0 (Phillips Healthcare). The software was designed for the pre-existing database to be updated easily by tagging the specific DVH data with the new incidence of RP events at the time of patients' follow-up. Conclusion: We developed the DVH management software as an effective tool to incorporate the phenomenological consequences derived from the pre-existing database in the evaluation of a new RT plan. It can be used not only for lung cancer patients but also for the other disease site with different toxicity parameters.

백색광 주사간섭계의 생물학적 응용 (Biological Applications of White Light Scanning Interferometry)

  • 백색광 주사간섭계는 다양한 시료의 표면 특성을 분석하기 위하여 널리 활용되고 있다. 이 기법은 재료공학 분야에서 오래 전부터 이용되었으며 정성적인 형상 이미지 이외에도 정량적인 3차원 결과를 제공한다. 이 기법에서는 백색광을 광원으로 이용하는데, 기준면과 측정면에서의 반사광을 합쳐서 형성되는 간섭신호를 형태 정보로 활용한다. z축 결과인 고도는 회색수준으로 구분되어 제시된다. 이 기법을 통하여 대영역으로 생물 시료를 신속하고 비파괴적으로 형태를 계측할 수 있다. 연골세포, 치아 법랑질, 식물 잎을 대상으로 적용한 사례가 있다. 특히 표면 구조물의 폭, 길이, 경사각과 같은 특성도 이 기법을 통하여 정량화할 수 있다. 이 기법을 적용하기 위하여 일정 수준의 반사도가 필요한데, 식물 잎에서의 반사도는 그 요건을 충족하였다. 전도성 금속의 코팅 등 부가적인 시료 전처리가 필요 없으므로 이 기법을 통한 생물 시료의 정량적 측정이 더욱 증가할 것으로 예상한다.

  • 18 종의 N-치환 phenyl 1,3,5-trimethylpyrazole-4-carboxamide 를 합성하여 벼 잎집무늬 마름병균 Rhizoctonia solani $K{\ddot{u}}hn$ 에 대한 균사생육억제력 $(pEC_{50})$ 과 이 균에서 분리한 succinate dehydrogenase (SDH)의 효소활성 저해력 $(pI_{50})$ 을 측정하였다. 구조-활성 상관연구를 통해 균사생육억제력이 SDH 효소저해력과 소수성인자인 chromatographic capacity factor $(\acute{k})$ 에 의해 79%까지 유의성 있게 해석되었으며 이는 합성한 화합물의 주작용점이 SDH 이고 생체내에서 작용점까지 도달하는데 필요한 소수성성질이 살균력의 발현에 중요한 인자임을 보여준다.

시-주파수 분석법을 이용한 시각자극 유발전위에 관한 연구 (Estimation of Visual Evoked Potentials Using Time-Frequency Analysis)

  • The visual evoked potentials(VEPs) is used to assist in the diagnosis of specific disorders associated with involvement of the sensory visual pathways. The P100 latency is an important parameter which is diagnosis of optic nerve disorders. There are characteristics of latency delay, wave distortion, amplitude deduction in abnormal subjects. It is difficult to diagnose in the case of producing peak at the P100 latency. In this paper, difference of pattern between normal VEPs and abnormal VEPs using the Choi-Williams distribution method is studied. We observed the relationship about time and spectrum. The result shown that normal VEPs had maximum spectral value at 20Hz~26.7Hz and abnormal VEPs had maximum spectral value at 16.7Hz~20Hz. Also normal VEPs spectrum is higher than abnormal VEPs spectrum.

내수면 유수식 송어양식장이 하천수의 수질에 미치는 영향 (Environmental Impacts of Inland based Trout-Farms on the Water Quality of a Stream)

  • To investigate environmental impacts of inland fish- farms on the water quality of a stream, environmental parameters including physical, chemical and biological factorswere estimated at trount- farm in 1994. Influences( F-1) were polluted as passing through fish tank( F-2) and settle pond( F-3), so organic and inorganic nutrient concentrations became very high in effluents( F-4). BOD$_{5}$, Chl. a, Nitrite and heterotrophic bacterial numbers in the junction site(5-2) of F-4 and S-1( upstream) were highest among the stream sites. BOD$_{5}$ was proved to a good parameter of organic pollution, and nitrite of Inorganic nutrients in the fishery and it's affected stream, The high concentration of BOD$_{5}$ and Chl. a in S-2 were decreased in downstream(5-3, 5-4). It seems that this results are due to dilution or sedimentation effect. This supposition requires further testing about the sediment of stream. The results of this paper demonstrate that fish farming can deteriorate water quality of a stream by changing environmental factors.

  • A new approach to texture classification for quantitative ultrasound liver diagnosis using run difference matrix was developed. The run difference matrix comprised the gray level difference along with a distances. From this run difference matrix, we defined several vectors and parameters such as DOD, DGD, DAD vector, SHP, SMO, SMG, LDE, LDEL etc. Each parameter values calculated in fatty, cirrhotic, normal and chronic hepatitic liver images were plotted in a plane and we found that RDM method was more sensitive to small structural changes than the conventional run length method and showed improved classification ability between the diseases.

  • 시각자극에 의해 머리표면에서 발생하는 Transient Evoked Potential을 검출하여 Source Tracing Method를 이용하여 뇌의 시각인지영역을 추정하였다. 본 과정에서 TEP검출방식은 average method를 이용하였고, 신경흥분에 대한 물리적 모델로 Single Current Dipole Model을 이용하고, 머리기하에 대한 3중구각모델을 이용하여 Forward Problem을 풀었다. Inverse Problem은 current dipole의 6개의 parameter에 대한 Least Square Error Method를 이용하여 신경흥분의 위치를 추정하였다. 이러한 결과와 생리학적으로 밝혀진 시각경로와의 비교결과 유사성이 확인되었다.

  • As a muscular contraction is sustained, the power spectrum of the myoelectric signal is compressed into lower frequencies. The median frequency appears to be the prefered parameters to monitor this compression. This paper describes a technique and a device which provide an estimate of the median frequency using a TMS32020 DSP chip and IBM PC for tracking of this parameter. Results obtained from myoelectric signal are presented and discussed.

  • The Heat Anisotropic Diffusion Method has shown very effective for the contour detection of 2-D echocardiogram. To implement this algorithm, we have to choose the parameter C, K, and the threshold level. The choice of C and K are not very sensitive for the good edge detection of the echocardiogram, however the choice of the threshold level is very critical. Until now the threshold level is chosen by the trial and error method. In this paper, we present an automatic threshold decision method from the histogram of the gradient of boundary-like pixels.

  • In this study, we proposed an algorithm for P-wave detection. It is essential to decide the existence of P-wave and to extract some parameter about P-wave in automated ECG interpreter. Especially this paper describes the detection and estimation of three case, artrial flutter, coupled and non-coupled, which are very crucial things in ECG diagnosis. The performance of algorithm is showed by applying it to CSE(Common Standards for Quantative Electrocardiography) database.
