Nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism in a seven-month old male kitten showing signs of paraparesis (ataxia, dragging the pelvic limbs), abdominal distention, aconuresis was diagnosed with clinical signs, radiographs and serum biochemical tests. In radiographs, bones were abnormally radiolucent and cortices were thin. Serum biochemical tests were performed, but had normal values. The treatment was directed at the suspected dietary calcium and phosphorus imbalance. Oral calcium supplement and a commercial cat food were introduced. On clinical evaluation 3 months later, this case showed no clinical signs.

Acanthamoeba strains were photoirradiated in the presence of light-sensitive organic peroxides (hydroperoxynaphthalimide derivatives) including a Photo-Fenton reagent at 366 nm. The survival rates of Acantharnoeba strains determined after 20 h culture showed a significant decrease only upon photoirradiated conditions. The most effective hydroperoxynaphthalimides among these compounds was the bromohydroperoxynaphthalimide (Br-HPO II). The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of Br-HPO II is 100 times lower than that of hydrogen peroxide.

Six modules composed of individual sensors and circuit systems for oxygen, temperature, humidity, volatile organic compounds, dust, carbon dioxide, in the indoor air quality control were examined to see their individual performances. Experimental results showed that all the six modules were in good linearity with individual concentration variations

Based on the static and dynamic adsorption of Streamline DEAE, a modified tank-in-series model including particle size distribution was used to describe the adsorption performance of bovine serum albumin in an expanded bed. The calculated results indicated that the suggested model was able to simulate breakthrough curves under various conditions.

Nitrite accumulation is not unusual in batch processes such as sequencing batch reactor (SBR) with high-strength of ammonium or nitrate wastewaters. A possible mechanism of nitrite inhibition on Acinetobacter was depicted in a biochemical model, which the protonated species, nitrous acid form of nitrite, affects proton relating transport at the proton-pumping site crossing the cell membrane under unlimited carbon and phosphorus conditions. This effect exerts inhibition of phosphorylation under aerobic condition and yields low APT/ADP ratio, consequently decrease poly-P synthesis and phosphorus uptake from outside the cell in the model.

The psychological and biochemical stress responses of healthy men and women were measured under the normal situation. Experimental subjects, who were cadets of the Korea Air Force Academy, were selected by the random sampling. Quantitative scaling of the psychological stress was obtained by life stress test(Cheon et al, 2000) and Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory(MMPI).(omitted)

The effect of the specifications of a silicon-on-insulator vertical slot optical waveguide on the sensitivity of homogeneous and surface sensing configurations for TE and TM polarization, respectively, was systematically analyzed using numerical software. The specifications were optimized based on the confinement factor and transmission power of the TE-guided mode distributed in the slot. The waveguide sensitivities of homogeneous and surface sensing were calculated according to the specifications of the optimized slot optical waveguide.
