Design data for COD and nitrogen removal from wastewater were collected from Pilot's Multi-stage Bio-reactor. Hyraulic conditions and pollutant loadings were varied in order to optimize the biological and operational parameters. Pilot's experimental results summarize as followings. 1. T-N removal efficiency in the organic volumetric loading 0.2 kgCOD/m$^{3}$·d was obtained as maxium of 85% at internal recycle ratio 2.5 and in more ratio than this it was decreased. Organic removal efficiency was about 91% under the overall experimental conditions and not influenced by recycle ratio.. 2. Nitrification reaction was shown as maxium in the SCOD$_{cr}$/NH$^{+}$-N ratio of 6.5 and in more ratio than this it was decreased. Denitrification rate was the maxium as 85% in more than 7.5 of SCOD$_{cr}$/NO$_{x}$-N ratio and in the ratio over this ratio it becomes constant. 3. By utilizing an applied new model of Stover-Kincannon from Monod's kinetic model, concentration of T-N in the effluent according to flow quanity in the influent was estimated as 8.74 and -67.5 respectively. The formula for estimating T-N concentration of effluent was obtained like this: N$_e$=N$_0$(1- $\frac{8.74}{(QN$_0$/A)-67.05}$)
Submerged membrane bio-reactor equipped with a hollow fiber microfiltration was applied to reuse weaving wastewater of water jet loom, where two parameters such as the concentration of MLSS and the flux were controlled. While the flux at the concentration of MLSS around 900mg/L was constantly kept over 0.4m/d and 0.8m/d in a short time, the stable flux at around 300mg/L of MLSS was shown at the 8 days later. Regardless of MLSS and flux, BOD, CODcr and Turbidity of the permeate were 1~2mg/L, 7~10mg/L and below 1 NTU, which were 85~90%, 87~90% and 98% of removal efficiency, respectively. The stable operation without fouling was achieved because the contents of ECP were smaller than those of common MBR processes and the composition(saccharide/protein) was kept constantly. In this study, 0.5~1.0m/d of flux and 400~900mg/L of MLSS were considered as the most recommendable operating condition for the reuse of weaving wastewater.

This study presents the tests of an Immersed Membrane BioReactor (IMBR) equipped with a draft tube and focuses on the influence of hydrodynamic conditions on membrane fouling in a pilot-scale using a hollow fiber membrane module of ZW-10 under ambient conditions. In this system, the cross-flow velocities across the membrane surface were induced by a cylindrical draft-tube. The relationship between cross-flow velocity and aeration strength and the influence of the cross-flow on fouling rate (under various hydrodynamic conditions) were investigated using Multi-Dimension Scaling (MDS) analysis. MDS technique is especially suitable for samples with many variables and has relatively few observations, as the data about Membrane Bio-Reactor (MBR) often is. Observations and variables are analyzed simultaneously. According to the results, a specialized form of MDS, CoPlot enables presentation of the results in a two dimensional space and when plotting variables ratio (output/input) rather than original data the efficient units can be visualized clearly. The results indicate that: (i) aeration plays an important role in IMBR performance; (ii) implementing the MDS approach with reference to the variables ratio is consequently useful to characterize performance changes for data classification.
Occurrence of process environment changes, such as influent load variances and process condition changes, can reduce treatment efficiency, increasing effluent water quality. In order to prevent exceeding effluent standards, it is necessary to manage effluent water quality based on process operation data including influent and process condition before exceeding occur. Accordingly, the development of the effluent water quality prediction system and the application of technology to wastewater treatment processes are getting attention. Therefore, in this study, through the multi-channel measuring instruments in the bio-reactor and smart multi-item water quality sensors (location in bio-reactor influent/effluent) were installed in The Seonam water recycling center #2 treatment plant series 3, it was collected water quality data centering around COD, T-N. Using the collected data, the artificial intelligence-based effluent quality prediction model was developed, and relative errors were compared with effluent TMS measurement data. Through relative error comparison, the applicability of the artificial intelligence-based effluent water quality prediction model in wastewater treatment process was reviewed.
The purpose of the present investigation was to develop a novel method for cell immobilization. Aureobasidium pullulans cells were mixed with an alginate solution, and the mixture was extruded to form small gel beads as hydrated- immobilized cells. The beads were then placed at $-15^{\circ}C$ for 6-24 h to induce freeze-dehydration. The freeze-dehydration resulted in shrinkage of beads due to water removal reducing bead volume by 82% and bead weight by 85%. The dehydrated beads were successfully used for the production of fructo-oligosaccharides in a model reactor system. This study showed that bioreactor performance can be improved up to 2 times by the use of the dehydrated beads.
A lab-scale submerged membrane bio-reactor (MBR) with intermittent aeration was carried out for investigating the behavior of soluble microbial products (SMP). The SMP concentration of mixed liquor at Run 1 accumulated immediately at the end of running and biodegradable SMP converted into non-biodegradable SMP, but it did not occurred at the Run 2 and 3. The SMP formation coefficient (k) at the anoxic phase was a little higher than oxic phase, and the lowest k was investigated at Run 3. The combination of biological denitrification with the MBR Process was advantageous in the prevention of membrane bio-fouling.
This study aimed to assay the biological removal of TDS (total dissolved solids) from RO (reverse osmosis) rejected water. Following bio-sorption of TDS with AGS (aerobic granular sludge), the effects of TDS on biological nitrogen removal were examined. The bio-sorption of TDS after AGS treatment was confirmed by checking for TDS removal efficiency and surface analysis of microorganisms with SEM and EDS. Then, the effects of TDS on biological nitrogen removal and the denitrification efficiency were evaluated using the MBR reactor. According to the results, the bio-sorption of TDS with AGS was 0.1 mg TDS/mg AGS, and we confirmed that the microorganism surfaces had adsorbed the TDS. Biological nitrogen removal efficiency was measured at inhibiting denitrification at 4,000 mg/L of TDS-injected material. Based on this study, it is necessary to pretreat TDS-containing RO rejected water and to maintain TDS concentration lower than a specific value (≤4,000 mg/L), when considering biological nitrogen removal.
In this study, the treatment of domestic wastewater in a field-scale membrane submerged intermittently aerated activated sludge process($210m^3/day$) was investigated under difference aeration methods. Operating temperature was 5.4 to 25.0 and membrane used in this study is a polyethylene hollow fiber membrane(pore size $0.4{\mu}m$). The range of operating flux was $9.7{\sim}24.4l/m^2-h$ and membrane permeates periodically operated for 7min followed idle for 3 min. The results showed that MIA(modified intermittent aeration) was more efficient in nitrogen and phosphorus removal. The removal efficiencies of T-N and T-P were 73.0% and 69.6% for CIA(conventional intermittent aeration) and 57.5%, 58.6% for MIA (modified intermittent aeration). With application of modified intermittent aeration, DO reached nearly Omg/l within 10 minutes after air off. Organics of influent could be entirely consumed to the denitrification and the P-release without the influence by remained DO in intermittent aeration reactor. Therefore, newly developed KSMBR(Kowaco-KMS-Ssangyoung Membrane Bio-Reactor) process with modified intermittent aeration can be one of the useful process for stable nitrogen and phosphorus removal.

Pakistan depends heavily on imports for its fuel requirements. In this experiment, catalytic pyrolysis of a blend of feedstock's consisting of date seed, wheat straw, and corn cob was conducted in a fixed bed reactor to produce oil that can be used as an alternative fuel. The main focus was to emphasize the outcome of important variables on the produced oil. The effects of operating conditions on the yield of bio-oil were studied by changing temperature (350-500 ℃), heating rate (10, 15, 20 ℃/min), and particle size (1, 2, 3 mm). Moreover, ZnO was used as a catalyst in the process. First, the thermal degradation of the feedstock was investigated by TGA and DTG analysis at 10 ℃/min of different particle sizes of 1, 2, and 3mm from a temperature range of 0 to 1000 ℃. The optimum temperature was found to be 450 ℃ for maximum degradation, and the oil yield was indicated to be around 37%. It was deduced from the experiment that the maximum production of bio-oil was 32.21% at a temperature of 450 ℃, a particle size of 1mm, and a heating rate of 15 ℃/min. When using the catalyst under the same operating conditions, the bio-oil production increased to 41.05%. The heating value of the produced oil was 22 MJ/kg compared to low-quality biodiesel oil, which could be used as a fuel.
